Saturday morning I went out to the garage to see if the motor was leaking after all the work I had done and I noticed a spot about the size of a 50 cent piece on the ground.

I yanked out the jack stands and crawled under it to see WTF it could be. All I could see was that the bottom of the #1 cylinder was wet where it meets the case and the oil had flowed down to the sump plate where it then dripped to the ground. It looks like it's coming from above but I cant tell because of the shroud.

Any ideas???

fiddy-cents? That's not a leak.

Check the oil return tubes.

I would prefer to fix it myself if it's something simple.

It's a real pain in the ass to get it there and back. Plus I don't want to wait another 2 1/2 months to drive it.

Sorry for my ignorance, but which one is #1? Closest to distributor or is it on the other side?

Any leaks at the cam tower oil lines on top?

Do you have heater block off plates? remove one and look in there to see if it is coming from the topside. A mirror will help.

If I had to venture a guess, and it is a leak coming from above, and if it shows up at the bottom of one of the cylinders on the pulley end, and it's not th e pressure sender and it's not the cam tower oil lines, I would suspect the rocker arm shafts. If not done correctly, they can leak.

If the leak was running down the back of the cam timing covers, I would suspect the cam tower rubber 'o'-ring and triangular gasket. I've fixed several that leaked right there.

Try to get the engine as dry as you can and then run it to try to determine the source of the leak.

My fresh 2.7 had a similar leak. It was from the "T" block which the oil sender screws into. There are a number of crush washers in that area. Make sure everything is snug. You may have to take a line loose to tighten things up.
Clean new oil is hard to see. One way to tell is to wad up part of a paper towel and stuff it under/around the connections in that area. If that is the source you will have no spot on the floor and an oily towel.

case through bolt o ring, top ones and one lower are under pressure .

arent you gonna take it back after 1k for a check up

Oil press sender as Jim says is likely...other typical problem areas are the oval breather cover...top of case near the back and it's hose connection, and the thermostat o ring...next to the breather.

I'm going to look at the places you guys have mentioned to see if I can locate and fix it.

Just got off the phone with the mechanic and he said that if I can't fix it the motor has a 12 month 12k milage warranty.

Okay, Can't find the leak anywhere so I'm thinking maybe the case through bolt o-ring as mentioned earlier.

Going back to the mechanic next Tuesday.

yeah man a 50 cent piece isnt bad...I have two bucks sitting under my car every morning....start the car, and away I go. I just check the gear oil every other week and oil when I get my gas.

A leak is two quarts per day of driving around downtown and then back. THATS a leak I had that one too. PITA to find. Oil Pressure sensor took a dive.
