Top gear did a bit on it recently.. They didn't like the handling.

I REALLY like the shifter. smile.gif

I saw some in person at the LA auto show. I also like how the windshield frame has no top.

There were a couple of Spykers floating around various events in Monterey last August. Not sure I care for the upholstery , and the steering wheel looks like it should be in a boat. But oh, that shifter is cool!

A pair of those will be racing in the GT class at Sebring and possibly the entire ALMS season.

Posted by: maf914 Mar 14 2006, 11:52 AM

They have been running a racing version for the past three years or so in GT2 trim. I saw them at Sebring one year and I believe they are entered again this year. Their racing cars are orange with silver trim.

Right... GT2. I keep on forgetting they changed the class names.

Are they any good? Have they raced the whole circuit? or just sebring?

There's a Spyker Spyder too.

Unless you guys already saw that one.

They've really "refined" their bodywork. A few years ago, they used to have "trademark" rivets all over the body panels. It looked ok. Really agressive. But the smooth shape is nicer.

Spyker was an old european aitplane and car brand
first the existed from 1898 up to 1925
then, in 1997, the name came up again with modern sports cars

they ran the 24 hrs of Le Mans several times

I'm sure Jacco could tell us more about 'em wink.gif

any good? nope, they suck dry.gif

they've been running LeMans a couple of years (last 3 I think) and even though they have a bigger engine (4.2L), mid engine layout, more exotic suspension etc. they could no where near keep up with the pace of the Porsche GT3's
AFAIK, they haven't finished one race they entered

don't know about this year, but previous years they only ran LeMans and Sebring
(no budget to go full season)

Echoes of what Jeroen said...

Jeremy Clarson had one on TopGear and said that while it was cool it was just a looker, not a driver. The kind of car you take to the country club, not track-day events.

I think it's all how the suspension is set-up. I think in that TopGear test they sent it back to have a more race setup and it did a lot better. Probably not a bad idea to have the stock setup for lots of understeer...no one ever said rich people could drive well.
I'm sure you could tweek it to be racecar spec if you like, the suspension is fully adjustable afterall.

I agree with Jeroen, their nice cars to look at but do not seem to hold up for races.
I'm sure the sound is real too, the have a valve in the exhaust system which opens op the exhaust so you can choose between decent and brutal.
I've been to the factory where they make these cars, that was awesome. Look like an opperating room, very clean and al these shiny cars lined up in various stages of completion. totally cool biggrin.gif

There's a dealer a couple of miles from me in Sherman Oaks. They had a black and tan model on the showroom about a month ago, but it's gone now. Muller, if you want me to put a deposit down for you, just paypal me. biggrin.gif

what kinda engine is that?

v 8?

are those carbs on it?

whats with them angled in?

are they just using straight manifolds to deliver the mix as opposed to making angled ones?

There's a Spyker dealership in Wilsonville (OR); their website is gpimports.com
It's chock full of neat details; the pedal cluster looks to be just billet pieces and heim joints. Haven't convinced them to let me go for a test drive yet though.....

Found another Spyker photo from Sebring at dailysportscar.net.

hi,
here's a couple Spyker pics from Le Mans, 2003. The race car shot was taken at the Esses, at the end of the race (the last lap, which was basically a parade, IIRC). The 'crowd' shot was of a street version which appeared in the big parade in town centre on friday evening. Sorry you can't see much of the actual car...

These were 35mm pics I just scanned; I have more on digital but unfortunately they're on a computer which isn't working right now... will try to post later -

have fun kids!
mike
p.s. oops I forgot, only one pic per posting. well here's the 'track' shot to start with-

...aaaand here's the 'parade' shot - sorry but all you get is one fender, one headlight, and a glimpse of the 'gull wing' doors. And a whole buttload of people.

I think the friday parade is put on mainly for the benefit of the local townspeople, most of whom don't actually attend the race but get to have their town & their lives (not to mention the traffic on every road within a 5 mile radius) utterly disrupted for a week, every June... and there's your fun Le Mans trivia fact for the day!

oh, and the photo:
