I have an 84 carrera dodnor car I'm using for motor, guages, struts, brakes etc. Can I use the ignition switch, wiper/signal switches on the 914? I've heard the column frame (metal that holds the electronics) is different. if so, can I use the stuff on a 914-6 frame? can the 911 frame be modified to be the same?

Thanks for that. I looked at the pictures but it isn't clear to me why you removed and welded on the mount plate? Did you use the part from the 914-4 or reposition the 911 part?

Geez and I thought it was more trouble than it was worth just mounting and wiring in my -6 stuff into my 74 car...

It was a PIA but I can send you the wiring for the ignition if you would like, the wipers were easy, I am still finishing the turn signal switch wiring.

Mark,
The 911 column uses a completely different mounting method from the 914. So the only way to make a 914/6 column is to cut the mount pad off a 914 column and cut the mounts off the 911 column, then weld the two together.

Here's a picture of the 911 column.

Hi Mark,

have a look at my conversion. The donor was as well a 84 carrera.

I've welded the original mounting plate of a 914/4 column to the carrera column.
You can use the ignition switch and all other electrical components, but you have to
rewire them, cause the 914/4 connectors doesn't fit to the 911 parts.
