914World.com _ 914World Garage _ any recourse on used car purchase from a private

Is there any recourse on used car purchase from a private party in CA?

My friend’s 18 year old daughter did not wait for me like I asked her too. She has already purchased the car. She was told the car had not been any accidents. But -- right now the car is at the repair shop being aligned and getting the strut/knuckle fixed.

dunno about CA but in KY and other places, as-is is as-is.

unless you can prove the seller explicitly stated the car was accidnet-free i dont see it going anywhere.

Check with the Calif DMV on private party auto sales. Oregon has a 7 day grace period.

I think that the due diligence is placed on the buyer, and a Carfax or Autocheck, and also checking with the Calif DMV on the vehicle history, would have given the buyer pertinant information on the car.
Good luck

I think you'd only have recorse if the car was totalled by an insurance company previously.

That law went into effect here in WA about 2 months AFTER I bought my truck and found out it had been deemed totalled by an insurance co.

Now by law I can't sell it for more then 2k to a dealer (if they'll take it at all), and of course must devulge to any private party that it was totalled previously. I'll most likely be it's last owner. headbang.gif

Don't misstate the cars history, but what keeps you from selling it out of state at fair market value?

Nothing, I actually don't want to sell it as of it, but don't like knowing that a dealership won't give me what it's worth (it's a Toyota Tacoma, which usually hold their value quite well).

Plus would you buy a vehicle that had been totalled by an insurance company from a guy who crossed state lines in order to sell it? I guess there would be perspective buyers out there, but I wouldn't be able to get top dollar for it (or what I thought it was worth when I purchased it originally).
