I hope that I am not repeating this on our site, but yesterday I was at the book store and saw a small photo of a 914 in the top left hand corner of a magazine. Of course I had to pick it up and see what it was about.
Subie Sport Mag does a nice article on Dana Stokes 914 WRX powered street racer. Great photos and I really like the way they did the tach
Here are some of the photos.
Enjoy

Awesome, now all we need is someone to rescan these so that they're legible.
That tach is familiar. I think Renegade sells them. Saw one on their V8 show car.
The tach was made for Dana by the guys at NHS. He made one for me that is slightly different.

i'm kinda shocked Dana didn't mention it...worse part is that he didn't share pictures of his car with us...last time I saw pictures he was roasting his old tires in a parking lot...
Very cool! Its amazing how fast the Subaru swap craze is catching on. Articles like this will only help that.

Gotta go buy a suby mag! I'm still contemplating the SVX 3.3L

I also like this idea, for another 914 and a VW Vanagon Bus. It is cheaper then a 3.2 six and it must sound just as good. Quilmes |

nope, your current resolution is too high ... the pictures above are already 250k in size but could easily be compressed down to ~30k ... i can get 1600 x 1200 below 300k no problem ... scan them high-res (if you haven't already) then scale them down to 1024 pixel width at 72 dpi with moderate JPG copmpression (5) ... that should get you under 300k easy .... more of the large version.
I hope that no one complains

I love that clear-coat-over-bare-metal look, it's awesome!
I kinda like the flares sitting up a little higher, makes the car look meaner. Anybody know what width the fronts are?

wasn't he the renegade guy that was dissing everybodys ride and told everybody 914s were worthless POS unless they had a V8 in them??? Andy |
Very nice in all respects. The whole package is awsome.
Thanks for all your work Quilmes.
Tim
Very, very nice. All this press sure is good for the 914's.

You said something I never noticed before. (Flares sitting up high give the 914 a mean look). Very good observation & something I will start looking at when looking at flared 914's. Placement of flares are importment.

That is such a nice ride!

Nice article; I'll have to pick it up! I just met Dana last week and neither he nor anyone at Renegade mentioned the article!
Renegade has my donor '74 car now; the WRX engine install likely starting next Monday. Same basic set up as Dana's but I'm not going for the racing/916 flares look; using 6's and 7's with very slightly flared rears - it will be more of a street look; i.e. wolf in sheeps clothing (even the BOV will be subdued).

After seeing a number of the Subarus at the insurance auctions. I am thinking this might be a fun project. Some of these car are selling for $1200 for a 30000 mile 2004 WRX, damge confined tot he rear of the car. Some selling for more some less.
Is the general consensis that the 2004 WRX is the motor of choice ? Or are there other ones to look at? What years and models?

Hey Craig:
Try: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/914/914subi.html
I think its the best resource for info relative to the 914. I know Renegade sources their engines from a guy in Michigan; among others. The Michigan source told me that he has seen a large increase in the amount of interest in wrecked Subies with good engines and it's getting somewhat harder to locate them at reasonable prices.
Also look at: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=68 re: Subies in general.
I opted for the 2.0 WRX engine since there were too many unknowns about the STi plant relating to ECU mods etc; it will come on line eventually. I can also rationalize by saying that 300hp was too much for my purposes anyway.

I'm thinking the 06 WRX motor might be a bit more fun. This year the WRX gets the 2.5L block instead of the 2.0. Its still rated at the same HP numbers, but from driving it, has a much better torque curve than the 2.0. Only problem might be finding wrecked 06s for swaps this early in the model year

hey guys, thanks for all the congrats. the article really turned out well, yuji's photos turned out amazing. the pictures were taken just before dark in the middle of a dry lake bed out side of jean, nv. the 914 had a hell of a time off roading to the shoot but it was totally worth it!

While visiting family in the Vegas area this last weekend I stopped by Renegade Friday afternoon. I met with Scott, Mike & Dana and best of all got to go for a ride in Dana's car! WOW! After talking with Scott and him showing me around the shop and seeing the great work there doing there and then capped it off with the ride in Dana's car..... I'm now forced to rethink a few things about the building of my dedicated autocross 914
Big Thanks to Dana for the ride and the fantastic hospitality extended to me
its great to see the 914 suby conversions taking off so well in the us there are very few 914s in australia and fewer still with this conversion being done
great to see and keep the info comin for us guys elsewhere on the globe
If you use a slightly different method to post a photo it will go in the post as a thumbnail....browse for the photo...click on add this attachment....then add reply.
that way you can post larger files I think...or maybe I'm wrong???
