914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Why hasn't Dansk done a run of 2.0 HE?

I realize there are not a lot of 914's out there, but it seems like you could make up a dye or whatever they call it to stamp them out and knock out a bunch of them. They do SS stuff for old 911's and Bugs, so why not. Perhaps if enough of us bombarded them with requests they would do it; any thoughts?

Between this, and the damn windshield frame seal, I am starting to wish I had better fabrication skills.

I don't know if DANSK ever made SS HE for the 914, but I do know that after speaking with John at SSI, there are 3 reasons that he won't ever do them again, even though he still has the dies to make them.

1. The cost of stainless steel in todays market.

2. 914 Owner's budgets.

3. Number of 914 type cars remaining.

He was very straight forward with me, most 914 folks won't pay what he would have to charge. It's really THAT simple.

Like the $1200 a pair for the ones AA has, for that money, I could put a Tangerine Racing SS exhaust with heat, or close to it anyway. If he has the dies, he could do them in mild steel for cheap, and I could get them powder coated so they would be pretty to look at while I am laying on my back under it.

Many 914 owners are either on a limited budget

Going racing....so using headers

Restoring car for show and want OE as much as possible.

Lots of SSIs out there in circulation...just need to keep looking.

I just sold a set not more than 3 weeks ago to a member of this board.

I am sure with todays manufacturing costs and materials, a set of SSIs would be in the neighborhood of $1500. Doubtful many teener drivers would pony up that kind of cash for them My $.02

They DON"T have them...they are trying to get together enough pre-paid orders to have SSI make a run. He'll make them if someone comes up with the cash, and I mean allot of cash...

Making them in mild steel would be an interesting option. Brand new mild steel 2.0 heat exchangers.

Only if you call half close, could you call $1200 close to what the cost of Tangerine SS headers with heat. Quality costs.

Dansk products have seriously slipped QC wise... I quit selling them because they would not bolt on worth a hoot..

I have a connection that can make stainless Banana mufflers and heat exchangers- no sweat, BUT you guys would not pay for them.

They are making 912E heater boxes and mufflers for me now.

i heard the "end of production/last of stock" story about SSI about a month ago (not here). unfortunate, unless you have a nice extra set of 2.0 he's laying around. they just spiked in value.

I'd buy a pair of the steel ones for sure, nice and new, get them powdercoated and they would last well. I can't imagine the cost would be prohibitive either.

Even jet hot coating looks like crap after a few years....

I find that the rattle can silver VHT or Rustoleum BBQ paint is a lot more cost effective....

Rattle can BBQ paint, had it on the Bug's exhaust, and my rear lower valence is also graced with it

You take the exhaust off and sand it THEN paint it......the only time you would spray it while it's still on the car is for minor touch ups and then one would think to MASK IT OFF....

You misunderstand, I took the valence off, cleaned it up and painted it and installed it with nice shiny hardware. The exhaust for the bug was painted and then installed. Still actually looks decent after 15 years, more grey than black, but not rusty.
