I am looking at some

225/50WR16 Sumitomo HTR Z Blackwall for my street car on all 4 corners.

Price is great

No discount from me, but keep an eye out for the treadwear if it's for your 914. Anything over 200 will pretty much be hard as rocks. Get something under 200 and above 100 if you can. wink.gif biggrin.gif

They have a UTQG or 160 biggrin.gif

Did some looking around... wacko.gif

Yoko's are AVS ES100 have a 280AA rating
Kumho 711 have a 320AA raiting

I guess the higher number means harsher ride???

Higher rating means NO GRIP. and will wear forever.

Come on guys. Yes typically 100-200 tread rating will grip like crazy, but there are plenty of 200-300 treadwear rated tires that are just fine for the street and occasional AX. Not everyone needs a tire that will burn up in less than 7500 miles. I run Falkens that are rated at 280 on my Audi and they grip great.

I have run those Sumitomos on my 914. They are a fine street tire. They are also predictable on the track. They dont offer the grip of the sub 200 treadwear tires, but they arent a bad tire for the street. Also consider the fact that most sub 200 treadwear tires are summer tires that are sub optimum for rain driving especially after they have worn some of that soft rubber off.

I think it would take a Michael Schumacher level of sensitivity to be able to tell the difference in ride quality between a 160 treadwear tire and a 260 treadwear.

I'm with you on using a good, long lasting tire for my street cars. The Sumi's are a really good tire, the HTR-Z is very grippy. I've use the HTR + on my street cars, and even those have plenty of grip.
