914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OT - Cool Car Pictures

Posted by: soloracer Mar 22 2006, 10:08 PM

I was asked to post some pictures of a certain 951 and I thought "Why not start a thread". I always like looking at pictures of cool cars and collect as many photos as I can. I figure I can't be the only one so here it goes:

Nah dude, it is Christine, just not two tone and possesed by an evil presence, at least I think it is a Plymouth. Does the little door open, and how far out the back do the wheelie bars go is what I want to know.

Posted by: soloracer Mar 22 2006, 11:11 PM

Wheelie bars are probably not needed - seeing as how it probably cruises around with 10 clowns packed in it. av-943.gif

muchas gracias for posting those pics for me soloracer! Do you know the owner of the car by chance? I am interested in knowing the exact colors used if at all possible.

A cool Pantera - "Purple Passion"

I don't know the owner of the orange/silver 951 but it looks to be a Vision Motorsports built car. Maybe Dwain w/Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills could give some insight. Call him at 949-770-2888. He helped me out a ton when I bought my 914 and he's a good guy to talk to. I also have a 1989 951 and wouldn't mind getting some specs on that orange and silver car.

As for color combos for your race car I was thinking of taking the stock colors from the Lotus Elise - (Chrome Orange and Titanium) Go to http://www.elisetalk.com/colors.html

What do you think? For fun check out the other colors, scroll down and you will see the back end of an Elise painted with Tiger colors - way cool. Anyone have pictures of that car?

P.S. I really like the purple pantera. Very dramatic looking. wub.gif

I just realized that the chrome orange Elise doesn't look good in the link I posted. Here is the orange I'm thinking of:

yeah, that is a pretty cool orange. Paint the whole car silver first, then go back over the top with the orange and it would really pop! Hard to tell what the silver would be like then because that website link color for the orange v. your posted pic is way different. The titanium in real life is probably brighter too. If so, that would go well.

That is what would be hard IMO about mixing the silver and orange, getting a silver hue you like then getting an orange that is just right - not too dark or not too bright when compared. That is why I jumped all over wanting to know the color combo of that 951 because the hues are well balanced. Dark orange and bright silver, or vice-versa, would look horrible.

That Pantera has a ton of work done - the top has been made removable like a teener! So they took the best feature of the 914 and incorporated it into an awesome platform...

That 510 is an amazing project by Bryan Feldman. I've had a couple of 510 projects and loved them. This is the trickest one I've ever seen; 1710lbs, 350hp, incredible mods to everything.

It's worth the time reading the details at his site: http://www.bryanf.com/510/index.htm

Dwain said it was a stock 951 silver color, the orange was added after he had it at the shop so doesn't know what it is.

At least I know the base color - I can match the orange to it visually to get the right hue...

Dwain seemed really cool too! Willing to take the time to even discuss such a question - I felt a bit guilty "wasting" his time but he seemed cool with it.

edit - just went digging around, maybe Zermatt Silver confused24.gif Also while digging ran across an orange 944/951 that looked very close to the top color! But the guy listed the color as "orange" - yeah no shit Sherlock.

Apparently can't edit a post and add a pic - I like this orange color on this 914 (don't know who's it is - just saw it on the net somewhere awhile back) - doesn't quite make me think of Signal orange because that seems darker than this, but maybe it was signal orange just mixed a bit brighter (?)

Isnt that tint illegal?

Anyone able to go gloss black on the hoods and associated, and flat black on the body pannels? Curious how it might look...

Flat black is awesome.. but I dont want my hood that hot anymore (that kind of heat does affect the radiator...

Posted by: Rand Mar 23 2006, 10:13 PM

Damn, that orange looks awesome. And the tinted windows really work well with that color! smilie_pokal.gif

I really like flat black. What if you used a fiberglass or CF hood... it wouldn't get as hot as steel... would it still get too hot?

Posted by: Andyrew Mar 23 2006, 10:21 PM

If I had a CF hood, I'd just clear coat it.

The paint itself gets hot..

and fiberglass WILL warp when it gets hot and cold. Trust me.. our 951 race car gets "hey your hood isnt closed" just about every day.. I even get it at work....

But I thought about it..
