914World.com _ 914World Garage _ For those that care....BAD TUB UPDATE

Posted by: ! Mar 24 2006, 09:28 AM

BAD TUB got the CHP stamp of approval last night......got it's assigned VIN # and I gots my appointment with the BAR (Smog weenies). They want a base line even though it's exempt from smog checks and control.

Took it out on the road last night with an anal probe up the dump tube off of the turbo. Dialed in (as much as possible) the best a/f mix while driving under load.....the wide band 02 meter worked well and I've dialed in 5lbs of boost after putting 500 miles on the new motor......another 500 and I'll try for 8 lbs....anymore and I'll consider an intercooler.

Got so excited I waxed my tub last night in the garage under lights....now it's a shiny ten foot paint job... dry.gif

After BAR....off to the cretins at DMV and PLATES!!!!!!!!!!

Trek, Mike is a SB county environmental Nazi. This is just payback time.

Posted by: ! Mar 24 2006, 12:17 PM

Howie, buddy, boobala...."nazis" you can't negotiate with....."weenies" you can.

Thus they/me are weenies until they/we become unreasonable.... cool_shades.gif

Is this the 356 that you painted with a 2-inch paintbrush?

Why would you turbo it? You can put a chopped down 911 motor in there. Then you've atleast got overhead cams to work with.

Kids these days.... screwy.gif

Mike, you just chopped a regualr 356 for that, right? Please say that you wouldn't do that to a real speedster. How much dondo did you use in the rest of the car?

And the chopped 911 engines don't cost 20 grand IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF!!! Kids these days. Jeeze.

Hey Aaron.

finger.gif

Back when I was growing up, I learned that you have to have three times the skill base to play on the level with someone who has twice your pocketbook.

I learned that playing paintball. And it carries over everywhere.
Cost for Aaron Cox to chop a 6= 20,000$ plus time waiting for it to get done
Cost for Alpha to chop a 6=500$ plus time to get it done.

Looks like that Vocational degree will pay itself off.

you and this "if you do it yourself BS"...how many people can do it or have access to the equipment??? if it was that easy, YOU do it and sell 'em for half that price screwy.gif

and even if YOU could do it, you'd end up spending 10K in parts and labor easily....

Posted by: alpha434 Mar 24 2006, 06:49 PM

Everyone here is a DIY mechanic. That's because it is cost effective. If I were to sit down and setup the tooling to make these engines, I could maybe sell one-two a year. And I have 0-little interest in having my own chopped 6.

And I would sell them for $19,000. I'm not here to screw with the guy who already does it.

I do have access to the equipment. A lot of people don't. But you could buy a lot of nice used machinery for 20,000$. Anyway, I've already been approached by people on this board with similar projects. I always quote extremely low in the name of science.

Fair enough?

Yup.....so that's why I ordered 1 inch spacers......comes with long bolts..... cool_shades.gif

Like me...just call me LONG BOLT....

As to a cut down /6.....do one, get it done and running and I'll pay ya 5K.....2500 for the motor, your 500 in costs and 2k profit....

I read this as calling Mikey a dumbass for not doing what you consider an easy or practical solution....

Why do you own a 914? YOU obviously can build an Carrera GT from scratch or so it appears biggrin.gif laugh.gif

There is no such thing as an easy or practical solution when it comes to cars. You know this.

Dude. I've been making fun of your 356 for a long time. I know what it looks like. Now tell me that it isn't a real speedster. It's a chopped coupe. That way I can sleep at night.

You painted it with bedliner???

Posted by: ! Mar 24 2006, 07:38 PM

Which ONE numbnutz? BAD TUB is a fiberglass replica Speedster.....Frank is a real rusty POS coupe that's been tube framed and cut down.

Wearout.

You need to put a line-lock on the fronts and do some MASSIVE burnouts with that monster. smile.gif

Get some skinny 15x4.5 bias-plys, pump 'em up to 50psi and let it rip.
