no, it's additional ballast. they fall off once you get the motor up to temps, thus giving you a weight advantage ...

I've heard they don't produce much if any heat actually.

Not compared to the factory heat exchangers.

But whatever.

Maybe someone with stainless headers and heater boxes can chime in.

they work quite well. maybe not as good as the factory HEs, but certainly enough for a CA winter drive ...

I sold a pair last june at parts heaven swap meet that were in good shape (no holes, some suface rust, great sheet metal) for $900. Buyer didn't try to negotiate.

Just getting the facts on stainless headers with heater boxes for anyone that needs to know who doesn't live in cali and might need it.

Perhaps a better question is...If you don't buy them now, what are they going to cost in 5 years???

There are some rare parts, that keep getting more and more scarce...no reproductions out there. Sure the stainless ones, but they are not reproductions, they look nothing like the originals.

Some of these parts are great investments, sure to return at least 10% annually.

Like I said in a previous post...if you think you are going to need these can you afford to wait to buy them??

Pete,

yep I was watching that auction. I had a bid of $1100 on them but well as you can see they went for more. I have no real plans for a /6 conversion yet but when I do I will want heat. Being in Chicago you know all to well how a nice sunny day can turn cold faster than heck. A little heat is nice to have.

Posted by: Root_Werks Mar 28 2006, 10:56 AM

Seems like if you will spend $1200 or so on a 30+ year old set, even if in almost perfect shape, you would be better off spending the extra $500 and getting the SSI's. I have heard they do work decent, just not great. You get a ton of air flow, but it won't burn your feet up type of heat. It sucks to think you have to spend $1700 just to have heat, but it's just what's out there. unsure.gif
