Just got my new Avon tech R-A 's 205 50 15
they won't fit a stock bodied car!!!
I tried them on my Revolution wheels (7 inch rim)
I might try them on my fuchs(5.5 inch rim)
still not sure the will fit.
I call Tire rack before I orderd them and the said I will have no problems!!!!
I have used Kumho, hoosier, yokohammas with NO problems in the past
BE care full!!!
they hang over the rim about a half inch on either side
NOT HAPPY
they should fit fine upfront tho no?
the front will fit
the rears not even close!
I got Avon Tech R 205 50 15's on 6" Panasports under my fenders. The fenders are pulled a little and I have about 3/4" of space.
Dave
your's aren't the RA, just the R dave? is the a for asymetrical? for drill i'd like to put one of the panasports on the rear of my car . just to see.
k
The RA is the new tire that replaces the R. The RA I believe is stiffer and heavier. Also, more expensive. Come on over sometime and we'll try em, Kevin.

Pradon me for being a purist!
Never, ever bend your bodywork to fit tires, unless you are committed to racing or autocrossing the car and have no concern for it's future value. The chassis, suspension, etc. was never designed/made for the rigors of contemporary hard-core tires/usage.
If you've upgraded the chassis & suspension/brakes for comp use...fine - just realize that few collectors will want your car wen you've finished thrasing it on the track.
Keep going. My box stock car will shine at future auctions when I'm too old t enjoy it.
Thanks
Hmmm, I didn't know these ran a little wider even than the Hoosiers. I was thinking about trying to cram some 225/50 Victoracers on my car but maybe I will try a set of the 205/50R15 Avons on my 15x7's... If they perform comparably to Hoosiers for less $$$ I wouldn't complain about that.

I read a couple of post were you have stated your opinions strongly. Everyone on the board has an opinion about how they want to use their car. You want to keep yours stock and that's great. I hope it gives you great satisfaction and I'm sure it is very nice. If I saw it I probably would enjoy looking at a car that represents what these cars were designed to be. I wouldn't try to talk you out of that goal, in fact, since that's what you want I would encourage you to build it and keep it the best you can.
However, that goal is not what I have chosen and what a lot of other people have chosen. I enjoy modifying my car and, I enjoy the fact that it will go faster and stop better and turn better than it did when it is stock. It's value to me is it is a toy and I view it as a consumable. I do not plan to sell it ever so resale value at auction is meaningless to me. My son and daughter will get it when I can no longer drive it if I haven't consumed it already.
Neither of us is right or wrong; please accept that. Take a little broader view and realize that 914's are different cars to different people and you will enjoy your time here more. The beauty of this board is it's diversity. Back off a little and enjoy that.
Incidentally, my car's bodywork was massaged by a tire installer at a chain that was trying to get 195's mounted on EMPIs under a stock rear. So much fpr stock body work.

fwiw. i agree on bending the body up for a set of tires to ax once in a while. i think it's the wrong approach. yomv.

This might help someone.
Tire/model/225 section width/205 section width:
Toyo RA-1 9.2"/ n/a
Avon Tech RA 8.5"/7.9"
Hoosier R3S05 8.9"/ n/a
Yoko A048 9.3"/8.2"
Kumho 710 9.2"/8.3"
Michelin PS Cup 8.9"/8.3"
I fitted my car to accept the Yoko 225's.
KT
Hoosier A6
205=8.6
225=9.6
With enough time, effort, and skill, any fender can be worked back into stock appearance. Since Karmann did such a lousy job building these cars in the first place, most 914s aren't symmetrical side-to-side, anyway, so doing a small amount of pulling would be pretty hard to detect, anyway. The sins the factory committed on many of these cars just to roll them out the door are more serious than many sins committed by owners trying to improve them 30 years later. Ever seen the amount of bondo on a completely stock 914? I have, and it's a lot more than zero, I can tell you...

according to whom? any data to back this up? |
Okay since we all have our own beliefs here is mine. There are three classes of identity for these machines, stock, converted, and perverted.
Stock is great if thats what your into and it will sell at a reasonable price; unless one finds a sucker.
Converted is when your car has been upgraded even to the point of a super car status. It can go o-100 in 4 seconds and stop in 2. It eats other cars on the track and three wheels around a corner like it was a joke. Yes, all race mods are in this category.
Perveted is when she becomes a kind of porn star of cars. She sports enough fiberglass to be considered rust proof. Is it a Ferarri, is it a new Porsche, who knows. She is hot sexy and yes still a 914 undeneath. Some would say, "ah its not a real car its a FG kit!" Others would gravitate to it like bees to honey. Is it right or wrong? Who cares!
Just remeber one rule:
There are no rules biotch!!!!
Rock on with the rocks that you got!!!!
