presumably thieves who don't own the Allen key needed to remove the wheel despite the secure-appearing Club ...
Just drive away with the club attached.
When positioning the club, place the handle into the corner of the windshield near the pillar. Oh ya, a cordless sawzall will go through the steering wheel in no time at all.
Flash! There is no foolproof antitheft device. What any one person can do, another one can undo. The game is to make your stuff harder to get so the amateurs don't bother.
I've never been a fan of the club. I think a hidden kill switch is a stronger option

uh the hidden kill switch isnt a good idea, unless its to cut the +12V going to the coil. coils that have both +12 and ground shorted dont like it and go BOOM

*Real* thieves will get whatever they want...They're jerks.
This just my way to stop the lazy ones.
Did I tell you what will happen to them?

How about this ,hidden kill switch that takes the fuel pump out of the loop, any car with F.I. needs fuel pressure to run. I had one on a S-!0 I had,it even folled
me once. DAVE
A removable steering wheel would make the car awfully hard to drive away.
A lot of thefts these days are tow-aways though...almost impossible to stop that from happening.
Maybe I should take the coil wire with me?
Or take a wheel off.
Pretty sickening that I have to anything at all.

I'va always found a switch to kill the fuel pump is great. Even if someone steals the car, how far will they get. When the car thief has the car stall two blocks away, he will:
a... troubleshoot it
b... run like hell
We found a friends stolen car like this once, 1/4 mile away from his house.
battery cut off, take the key with you, and I am thinking about one of those steering wheels that you can take with you.
You can just remove the fuel pump fuse. A lot easier to carry in your pocket too.... or throw it in the glove box.
.......b
Trekkor,
You have carbs. Dont worry they wont know how to start the car! Kill switch to the fuel pump is a good one.
Lose the club, forget a kill switch, just insure the darn thing through haggarty with a declared value of $20k and leave the keys in the driver's seat. no more worries.

Why would anyone steal A 914? Whats it worth to them? Parts? Resale? Or just to piss you off!

We had a car theft ring in Dallas that was stealing cars out of fenced in lots behind dealerships. The thieves were caught when the Brick Truck they used to lift the cars out of the dealer lot broke down right outside with a car in the sling. What they would do is pull up outside the fence, and one guy rode the sling over. Then he hooked up the car and rode the hoist back. They put the car in the back of the brick truck with high sides and drove away.
The driver of the truck ran on foot when the cops showed up. The other guy was stuck in the stolen car hanging from the sling.
FYI.. professional car thieves will get your car if they want it. What you want to do with your 914 is to make it harder for the gang bangers or the joyriders to steal than the Camaro down the street.

Years ago I had my Nissan stolen.
I few weeks later a buddy of mine gave me a cheap theft detur...
Take a length of chain wrap it around the clutch and brake, and toss a pad lock on it. When the bastard attempts to take off, push the clutch slam on the brake, stall the car. Works well for beginers, but theif with time carrries bolt cutters. It did save my car a month later, when aparently they came back to tkae it a second time,. Only got as far as the car port..
ah those dam clubs. take me like an extra 2 seconds to rip off the wheel
what is the wheel made of?
couldnt you just cut out a 1'' section and slide the club off?
id take the coil wire

bolt cutters, no need to remove a section, cut it, bend the wheel, slide it off. My friend has a "lawman", goes on the brake pedal. This would stop a joyrider, club is useless. If they are pros and they want it, they get it. You just need to stop the amateurs |
Big dog or loc jack:)
Are there enough 914's around to make it worth stealing for resale?
I am sure there are probably a few people with 914 to lazy to earn enough $$
to buy parts who you might steal your car, but the theft rings are for body shops.
If you ever see the top top cars/trucks stollen there
like camarys/maxima, pickups etc... Air bags, hid ligths,etc...
Bodys shops like them.
My lawyer got his car stolen.
He lives outside of Denver, in a really high-end neighborhood in Golden. He went outside early one morning and hit the "warm-up" button on his Lexus. The car starts up and then warms and shuts off again. So he goes back inside to get some coffe or do whatever. Comes back out and his car is gone. Files a police report. Blah blah blah. Is FORCED to drive his BMW in the snow! Cops find his car a couple weeks later. They give it back to him in perfect condition. So late one night, he hears his Lexus start up and drive away. He thought it was one of his kids. So he gets up to see who's gone. Nobody. His car got stolen again. Files a police report. Blah blah blah. Has to drive his bimmer in the snow again. His insurance company actually makes the executive desicion to NOT be douchebags and settles with him. He gets the full value of the vehicle. One of his buddies (OK, me.) Notices a nice looking Lexus of the same model at an auction while investigating a nice, cheap 911 (turned out to be crap.) Turns out they were the same Lexus. And so my laywer buys his own Lexus back for $1500. Makes like $25,000 on the deal and immediately has the locks changed.
He was pretty good-natured about the whole thing, though. He deserved it.
I drove my 914 for like 4 months around Cleveland with no ability to lock the doors. PO couldn't find the door key. Knock of wood I never had a problem.
But strangly enough, both of the front side marker lights have been stolen off my $2 hyundai here in PR
I think I'm going to try that pulling out the fuse idea. Lock it in the glove box with the CD faceplate
the best defence against being stolen is a tail shift tranny
cant feel any gears
vauge pattern
weak detent into 1st
low power
long throw
its about impossible to drive if you dont know where the gears are w/o having to feel around for them
my grandfather who has been driving stick cars most of his life was haing trouble driving it

Boy am I glad I live in rural Connecticut not much ever gets stolen around here....let alone a car.

A good motor will take off in 2nd gear, where everyone thinks 1st should be.
Blasting cap under the driver seat cushion just about where the nads are.
Connect to the ignition switch.
Just dont forget the failsafe.

Maybe I shouldn't be telling you guys this , but I dont lock my shit up. The car isnt very valuable or desireable to the general public, and I dont keep anything in there that costs more to replace than a broken side window.
I've had a $65 side window busted so they could steal my $25 "stereo".
yeah people think my car is a FIAT.
nobody and I mean nobody touches my car. although someone put a cig out on my targa vinyl....thanks dude!
my and my boss' boss talked about porsche's though last night (3am--so this morning) it was cool...he likes the 928.

This is my theft deterrent system. I have 2 security devices on each side of the car to make 4 total.

Another good one is to use a GPS cell phone. Stash it in a hard to find place whenever you leave the car in a insecure location. I have caught thieves professionally in High Tech industry this way. Very satisfying when you catch people who have no clue they are being tracked!

Mount a high output coil under the seat. Set it up so that it will make a spark when the engine is running and the hidden switch is on. Attach the high tension lead to a bare copper wire that runs down the center of the seat cushion, just below the vinyl.
Now when they start the car, they will make a shocking discovery. With the engine running, everything metal (like the door handles, the key, etc..) will cause them to get a nasty shock to their junk.

Spoke too soon, just got this mornings paper and yes 3 cars were broken into yesterday here in rural Connecticut. |
Who says a couple kill switches dont work. Fuel pump. Starter. battery with alt protection, its also a good idea to have the flame thrower and oil spray equiped with a kill switch so nosey passengers dont set them off by accident.
Hey! I'm just a little weirded out because those jackalopes that stole my stuff *had* to have seen my car.
I put my car cover and ugly tarp back over it after pulling the coil wire and clubbing the wheel.
I half expect to come Home to more stuff stolen.
It's still fresh.
Talked to the claim adjuster today, they want me to submit my loss list so they can settle out.
They add the sales tax to the claim total as well.
I should see $1200 after the deduct.
