914World.com _ 914World Garage _ DZUS fasteners

SO I hope to be getting my new used lid soon. Thought about using some of theses slick fasteners instead of all the factory latching stuff.

Anybody have experience with them? Plan on using stock hinges right now and either two or four of the DZUS fasteners.

All my bodywork work is held on with the little boogers. They take a little getting use to, but not a big deal. Drilling a blind hole in newly paint body work is always fun. They have some built in adjustment to them so you don't need to be perfect. You have to know the length of them. If you get them too long for your application they won't work. You can adjust your mounting plate to account for this but you'll learn as you go.

For my hood I'm using the type that don't need a tool to lock them. They have "wings" like a wingnut. I also use hood pins just in case.

Depending on where you get them they can run about $3.00 a piece, so shop around.

I use them on my fenders. Nice pieces. One thing to plan for is how the rivets space the panel out. If you account for it the fit will be much better.

make sure to check with your racing org.
most require hoods to be secured with hoodpins

if it helps, there are some pics of my Dzus installed rear fenders in my Blog

I got the Dzus fastners from Pegasus

Good point. Must refer to the rule book... it would really suck to bump another class because I thought these fateners looked cool.

I like hood pins at the front of the hood. Call it the peace of mind factor. I don't want the hood flying over my head at 80 mph. ohmy.gif

My pins are aluminum and light. biggrin.gif

Paul...... Does your car ever get to 80? Before you respond let me say that all AX events (at least sponsored by SCCA) are not intended to reach speed beyond 60. Yes that is for UN-prepared cars.

I have done 6800 with a stock 3rd gear wink.gif

Dude, I drive my car on the trailer at 80 mph!!! (bd1308) laugh.gif

OK mybe not 80 but I bet over 60 easy at a PCA event.

I like the Dzus fastners, use them on front spoiler, fg front bumper and front hood.

Pegasus at www.pegasusautoracing.com has a wide selection of Dzus, Camloc, and pins and latches.

and other neat stuff that is sometimes hard to find.

These guys have them, pretty reasonable.

Summit racing sells a generic "quarter turn fastener" that is pretty inexpensive, but I don't know what the quality is like. I was thinking I might try them out on my custom front trunk floor, as that is a nice non-critical application.

The camlock are my favorite, and have a lot of adjustability to them.

Since I do road racing I am using steel pins, 4 in front and 2 in back. The f/g hood I have now has the area for the headlights filled in so I added one in each corner so the hood wouldn't catch the wind. If I remember correctly SCCA, HSR and VARA all require steel for the pins?

I use two of these on the rear of my hood.

(boy that paint sure is red) wink.gif

I don't recall seeing any restriction on hood pin material for SCCA road racing. Mine are aluminum.
I think if you use a minimum of 3 Dzus style fasteners on the front of your hood you will be safe enough even on the highway.
I can't imagine your selection of hood fasteners would affect your car's classification.
