Ok I need tires soon,
What is the difference between these two?
click on the "914 info" link at the very top of the page
then choose "tire size calculator"
a 205/65???
are you driving a 4x4 truck or what??
that is one tall tire......
I like tall walls
I do not like low profile
This is to be a daily driver for comfort not ax

Here's an example of 195/65/15.

Tires cost alot of money and I want to get the best bang for my buck.
Ride handeling and performance. and apperance.
Wow Tommy that looks good, How does it hande l?
195/65 pretty much matches the diameter of the stock tire and not a clearance issue with stock wheels. 205/50's better for spirited driving, handling and acceleration. Speedo and odo will read about 8% fast, and gas mileage obviously worse.
These cars are so light that non track tire wear is not an issue, so name your poison.
205/65/15 may be too tall for the rear wheel well, may rub and blister your paint.
195/65/15 fits just fine, no rubbing.
The rear wheel wells on a 914 don't often have the same width. When I put on 205's, one side fit fine, the other didn't. I had to roll the fender to keep from rubbing.
I just put a set of 195/65/15's on my 6. I like them. I'm not bottoming out on parking lot barriers, rpm on the engine dropped 500, and I may even get better gas milage. My speedo is off by 5mph, I had it calibrated for 205/50/15's. Haven't really noticed a difference in performance, it still scoots.
Stock on my 6 was 165/65/15 on steel wheels, I've still got them.
So if you like them, go with them, it's your car, your money.
Later, Don
I love this club!!!
When I am out there is always a show going on
When I was at the store the two tires were almost identical. The 205 was only a half inch taller and a half inch wider.
Ok I got it I am going to go with 195 65 15
Thanks to every one for there input.
Thanks John
Does the $48 Kumho ECSTA ASX 195/65VR15 suck?
How 'bout the $68 Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical 195/65HR15?

Wow Tommy that looks good, How does it handle? |
In a tire rack test, the only "all season" tire beating the ECSTA ASX, is the mucho dollar Pirelli Pzero nero.
I have 205 Kumhos on it now but the tread is getting thin
They handel great but they are low profile.
Not to say that I will not be getting them in the future but for right now I want something different.
I've had 'em all and 195/65 is the right tire for the street with stock 5.5" wheels.
I used to have 205/60-15's on my Fuchs, the ride was fine, you'll be happy with that size.
IF you ever decide to drive your car quickly/agressively, you'll be happy that you went down to the 60-series, if you don't decide to go to a 55 or 50 series, that is. IMO
It also depends on your car's current suspension set-up to, my 914 is/was quite stiff, and I'm currently on 205/50-15's.
hth.

I may be wrong but I think there is a federal law that makes it illegal to put Korean made tires on a German car. |

Oh-OH! I guess I need to be arrested! I had the "kum-ho" Ecsta ASX on my M3 and liked them. when I was forced to go out in slippery conditions they worked very well. In dry they were no match for the Michlin Pilot sport summer tires i had on for good weather though! |
