Can you use a factory 911 muffler on a 914/6 if you bend the tail pipe a little bit with a torch??

Yes. They work fine. I dont know about bending it.. most people just have a new slightly larger tip welded on.

You should only have to bend it if you're running the factory original "porthole" valence. 911 mufflers exit in the right place with the late style (73-76) short valence.

I was told also it needed to be the early version, how late can I go?

Safe bet would be 1974. Some of the cars had thermal reactors in 1976-77 and used a 74 style muffler, but I wouldnt chance it.
