914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 225 50 15 tires on 7" cookie cutters

Posted by: bondo Apr 17 2006, 04:17 PM

I'm trying to plan ahead and design flares to match the final tire size. 225 seems to be the widest tire that is easily available in 15". Is this going to be wide enough for a V8 914 street car without limited slip? Is it too wide for a 7" wheel? Anyone running this particular size on a 7" rim? Got pics?

Just want to make sure I do it right the fist time. I looked into 8" cookies (welded), but they aren't cheap and tires to fit them would be expensive and hard to find. I really like the look of cookies, and I already have them, so I'm not going to switch to another wheel. smile.gif

Hmm, I selected "new topic", but the button at the bottom to submit the post said "add reply". But it did add it as a new topic. confused24.gif

they work fine. 225's really look better on an 8" tho.

205 on 7 = perfect
225 on 8 = perfect

paul - you can put a space saver on any wheel....

i put one on a 6" 5 lug fuch.

if the blogs get up again, ill show ya the pic of mine mounted.

I had slits mount mine.

lemme know if you are looking for a 15" saver....

They should fit fine.
I've run 225 tires on 7 inch cookies for years.

(I've seen wider tires on narrower rims in the past, but wouldn't recommend it. It was done to accomodate classification rules mostly and not because its the best combo... the best I've seen is a 245 tire on a 6inch rim...)

but 7incher should work fine!

as for your tires, i've been running 225/50x15 on cookie cutters for years now. works great. you'll need some spacers if you have GT flares ...

Different 914.. the 16s are going on a 1.7 powered car.. all bark and no bite! smile.gif I got them mounted now, and they fit fine. Had to use spacers to fill out the flares.

The cookies are going on the V8 car, which will be 5 lug. No problem with flare filling, as they will be designed for the wheel/tire combo.

What about use on a V8 914.. will 225s be wide enough, or is it going to be like driving around on ice? smile.gif

Too little of tire for a v8 conversion. I had 225x50x15 Yoko A032Rs on the rear of my 914-6 2.7L RS motor and they still broke loose at will with the throttle. biggrin.gif

Great.. Well I want the tires to break loose before the teeth of the gears in the trans break loose, but I don't want it to be impossible to drive either. What width tire do you reccomend? And where do I find it in 15" diameter? smile.gif I've been plugging numbers into tirerack and discount tire direct, but it's hard to be sure I'm getting all the possible combinations. What's available, and will it gain me enough width to justify widened cookie cutters?
