After doing a search on this, it is still unclear to me. I have plastic fuel lines into the gas tank area. I had no leaks but removed tank to install a sway bar and now I need to replace the rubber lines to the tank by tomorrow(Hershey on Sat), so no time to order metric lines.
As far as I can decifer
1/4=7mm=+-
5/16=8mm+-
3/8=9.53mm+-
People talked about using all 3.
1)Should the small line be 7mm or 8mm or will both work with a good clamp?
2)Is it ok to use 3/8(9.53mm) for the bigger line?
3)Am I going to explode somewhere around Ephrata.
P.S. I don't have a "local Bug shop". I wish I did. Thanks.
Short answer:
Use the hoses that fits the tightest.
Use a good quality clamps.
Run it after installation and check for leaks.
Do not smoke while driving to Hershey.
Carry a fire extinguisher in the car. Gonna do that job myself this weekend...
am in the process of doing this as well. 5/16" lines worked good for me.
Use the metric line and use the fuel injection specific hose clamps. They are readily available and can be dropped shipped to you quickly.
Dont worry about the plastic lines. If they are still "pliable" they will be just fine.
Just remember that Porsche never intended for those lines to be pressurized like the all the newer cars.
