So dude , is that like the Indiatlantic boardwalk?
Are you like ready to go catch some energy?
(go surfin at the boardwalk or Sebastian inlet bridge to those that know)
Ken
[
Up here it would start rusting your ear off right away with all the rain.
Geoff
In indiatlantic,
The salt in the air coats your car overnight and you have to rinse your windshield in the AM to see where you are going. And, Ein 6ixer probably lives in the 4-6 foot above sealevel part of Indiatlantic.
I lived there from 1969 to 1983. Lived just across the highway from Paradise Beach park and drove a killer Karmann Ghia convertible.
Allso went to FIT and worked for HarryAss as an engineer.
My 914 is from rust free NC.
Ken
Okay... let me rephrase the question....
What the heck do you look like NOW!!!!?????
Ein 6er--- I wouldn't have recognized you then... as I know you now. You got to admit.. your style has changed! You are the last person I'd picture in an Izod shirt.
Heee heeee... you all are a riot! The vintage photos are funny.

This has been fun.. I think I have found a link between 914s and a recessive gene, a 914-gene, as it were.. and is, and shall be.
Physical traits are empty pockets, a dent in the forehead from hitting the steering wheel in frustration, and a huge right leg from brake checks.
M
Well after years of paying my dues I finally have my picture in this months PCA Pano. Boy, am I proud of this moment. Here it is, taken at this year's Parade. That is Lewis and John (fellow 914ers) I'm standing with.

Many of us seem to be folicularly challenged....
Hmmmm
I will look like ScottB in 4 years (age 37). I havent worn a hat for than 20 hours total in my life. Didnt start using ANY chemicals in my hair (hair gel/spray) until this year (starting coloring it) I thought this would help keep my hair around. I had already watched my dad lose 80% of his hair by age 36. I thought it was because he always wore hats.. DENIED. Its hereditary.

These photos are fun and it's good to put a face with a name.
I'm a little curious about those pictures from the past with the long hair, bell bottoms, platform shoes and hitch-hiking across Europe. It probably shouldn't be a surprise that members of a group who enjoy an odd little German car are secure enough to post old photos of their past for public comment and ridicule.
Skirt wearin' guitar pickers and bridge tenders. Sounds like a 914 group to me!
Carl
Okay, seems like evryone's offering their "alps" pictures. Here I am in the alps somewhere. Judging from the van, I'd say it's the Italian side. And judging from the way I seem to be nervously clutching something, I may have run afoul of law enforcement.

See you in Anaheim! Hilton bar Saturday night sometime around 10:00PM? Drinks are on me.
We'll have to mark this time of the year next year for a Alpine Loop 914 Ramble. The colors are ridiculous today. Sundance? All-Star jam? I'm sure a strat will fit in the rear trunk, amp in the front. Bassists will have to come solo, unless your a Steinberg man. The only place I know for a bass is the passengers seat.

The Bug rocks, but I love the 914!
i love those wheels on your bug tom. 4 lug "cosmics" right? or westerns?
Empi 8 spokes.
Tom.. did you stick with the upright fan shroud in the 914 ?? show us....
Congrats on the marriage..
B
Brad, thanks for the congrats. We are both looking forward to it.
I converted the motor BACK to pancake cooling. LOL. I had to loose the Gene Berg full flow pump cover and system (which is OK, since it's less complexity now) and I had to get a different set of cylinder cover tin due to the fact the 2056 had 2.0L heads and mine has 1.8L Bus heads.
Oh, and I had to drill a hole for a 914 dipstick and block off the 411 Wagon dipstick mount (al la Bus).
I drilled the hole with the motor together
Lots of rags, a big shopvac and lots of worry. No problems though. I used a "Mr. Gasket" oil dipstick for a Chevy 'tree-fity and cut down the dipstick to length, then renotched it for the proper oil level.
Later,
Tom

A professional bear hunter that the family knew had 2 or 3 that ran with his pack of hounds...."for when the bear came down out of the tree". My old man heard that line and got one....like to kilt every cat in the neighborhood..cept ours, of course A long time ago, now. (gettin' all misty)
Here is me after I broke the 914 last night. Lets just say I was pissed and still am. It was the only piece I had that ran, now I get to cruise in the 1987 full size ford econoline van.

Is the yellow car yours?
Paul
I'd say the Silver car is theirs
Geoff
Nope, mines the silver in the back (wife was designated picture taker while driving so we brought up the rear).
The yellow car is Joseph's - very tough looking with the 911 flairs on the back.
I guess your avatar should have given me a clue.
Paul
I bought this Sportster new in 1986. I still have it (this was taken this past April) except now it is a 1.2 liter as opposed to the original .9 liter.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Really makes a difference does it when you go from an 883 to a 1200. Did you leave the gearing stock? If so, the converted ones are quicker than a factory 1200. When I had my sporty I did mine after about 6K, really appreciated what the cc’s do for you.
Attached image(s)
MJ,
I've been all over the map with gearing. Started with the original 48 tooth rear then went to a 56 tooth rear for drag racing (11.90's @ 108 mph). I've gone as high as a 40 tooth but settled on a 44 tooth now-a-days. I've still got my wheelie bars up in the attic. I haven't raced it in about 8 years but still love to turn up the wick on the street. It makes a believer out of some of the ricers, and sounds ten times better. Along with the motor you'll notice Sun aluminum rims (18" rear & 21" front, although I also have a 19" Sun front I used to use for darg racing). Spokes are Buchanan stainless. I got the first S&S big bore kit (actually a prototype along with their prototype intake manifold for the [then] new Evo motor Sportster) and their S&S Super carb. Cams are Gordon Kately (also the first set he ground for the Evo Sportster) and a Dyna ignition module that replaced an XR 1000 Sportster module that finally burned out. There's a lot more I've done but too much to remember after three glasses of red wine tonight.
Regards,
Don

Ya know I really get sick of owners of SLOW, HEAVY, UNDERPOWERED, UNDERBRAKED and OVERPRICED, ancient technology american, 2-wheeled Iron, spewing thier Bike envy by using the the pejorative slur "ricer" when trying to justify the possesion of thier bikes.
As far as Im concerened If you ride a Bike your (generally) OK with me.

Tommy,
I had a dream a couple years ago that I bought that car. It was cheap, like $75,000 or 100,000. I had to sell everything to buy it. So, I had to drive it to work and out and about! I remember driving it on the freeway one cold morning, but loving every minute of it. Teo Fabi was one of my favorite drivers.

Geoff
This was my first post with a picture, trying to figure out how to get it done. I'm in the Somme, and they are still are digging up shells from WW1. Have made 4 trips to Europe and have gone to battle fields from Henry the 2 to the Bulge area. Along the way have stoped Lemans(24hr motorcycle race going on), Spa, Brandshatch.
Cool, I went for the first time to the Netherlands this October. (Met Jeroen) I didn't get a chance to see too much other than the old WW2 concrete boxes that are all over the place. Did make it Arnhem to see the "Bridge Too Far" bridge.
Hope to make it to the Somme this summer....
Geoff
Geoff, had a change of plans this year, insted of arnham and other battle fields in europe, we did civil war, great trip.

Hello everyone!
This is my wife Cicely who is also part of the 914 scene shes grew up in Indiana and went to school at the University of Pennsylvania where she received her BA in Psychology and her Masters in Elementary Education and decided to stay and be a teacher in NJ which is how we met. She and I dated for almost 7 years after I got out of the Military and were married this past July 5th, 2003. Believe it or not she is learning to weld! Pretty soon she will be welding on her back instead of me...LOL

Yea I've been teaching her for the past few months. So far she just welds on flat stock, right now she's just learning how to get a nice even flowing bead. So far so good, as soon as I feel she is ready we will get into the more technical aspects of welding (IE good penetration on seam welds and heat settings.

ghost, I've seen your car(356) before. When I had mine, is it on the registry page?
Seanery-
yep- thats my page on the 356 Registry Members Page.
That was an AWESOME car I had, but...I didnt realize...well...that 90% have been hit so friggen hard that us average people can never make them right. Se we take them apart to make them better and just end up burying the damage even deeper.
Anyhow, the 914 should be fun I have plans for it:
I think its a stock 1.8 (eng# EA065268), I'd like to:
( a little paint/interior work first) Then:
1- Add WebCam to match carbs
2-Big Bore
3-C/W Crank and/or Lightened flywheel...maybe?
I dont really want to put a ton into it, I just want it fun and fairly reliable for a while.
I know a guy who has a 2.7L /6 out of hiw '77 911, 'as removed' from his car w/tranny.
"Let me know when you're ready, I'll make you a deal" he says.
Anyways, I'll yell for help once in a while when I get frustrated.

Hello there..Glad you are online with the club.
Hi Y'all I luv white 914's & yers looks really nice....
Welcome
........b
Yes,DuckRyder, that is a speedster.I also have a couple of tail draggers.I have a passion for Porsches. And with the price of gas,it just ads one more item to long list of reasons to love them. Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!
Yes, welcome to the club, where at in Southeast Missouri are you? I used to live there before I came back out to California. I had a girlfriend down in Nixa and my grandmother lived in Branson. I lived in North KC for a few years.
Southeast would be around Cape, or Dexter...We'll have to all meet up and check out the curves...aahh...roads that is.
Actually,I'm in Iron County, about 70 miles northwest from Cape. All of the roads that lead away from here are great for Porsche cars, lots of curves and beautiful scenery.
Ever drive around the Taum Sauk (spelling?) mountain area? We go camping down there ever so often. It would be great in a 914, but pretty much sucks in a conversion van hauling a pop-up.
We have another 914 driver that lives down in Caladonia (spelling, again), screen name "eresener".
Yes,I live about 8 miles from Taum Sauk.I can't even imagine driving a van and camper on these roads!I am so used to sitting low and hugging the curves that I feel too high even in a regular car.
Yea, I do know 'eresener'.I am the car painter he has talked about in one of his posts.
I saw your post about Tweeks.I am going to go. It's a great time and you get a lot of great free stuff! They have technical seminars that are very helpful and deals on parts, and of course, lots of Porsches to look at.You will not be disappointed.
Hey Flatout,,,
Welcome to the club....finally....

... new to the forum. I'm shy. Not ready to 'face' other 914 owners yet!
Sandee!! You finally found a teener. Guess my white one wasn't nice enough for yah huh? Make sure you bring your purple people eater to the next NNJRPCA concours. Sounds like a nice car you got. Local too. Welcome.
Tod914! Yes, finally! And NO - actually had my heart set on white (black or yellow or red or something) ... you're car was a bit TOO nice! Got a good deal on this one, nice guy from Clifton ... now, I'm loving this Marathon Blue Metallic - very classy, I think.
I live right up the street ... you're welcome to take a ride over anytime! Off Maple ... email me (sandee@sandeeland.com).
Sandee nice car, I saw that one on bird board, looked REALLY nice and priced extremely well. I'm sure you will love it.
Ferg.
Sandee...nice wheels!! The color will grow on you. I want a silver, white or marathon blue teener!
-Dan
I wanted to do a color change on my silver car to that Marathon blue. I was convinced out of it. But mark my words, I will have a marathon blue 914. Oh yes.
Jen
Still no pics of my ugly mug, but here's my crew.
Looks like I'm buying another teener, but I'm keeping this one for the girls. Thats Leigha (18 mths), Abby (7) and Erin (9). When I was reviving the car, Erin could not ask enough Q's or learn enough to be satisfied. Out there handing me tools and getting dirty. Ab's loves to help wash her and keep the car clean. Liegha, well, she REALLY loves to just be in the car.

A very unflattering pic , but here goes :

Thanks all for the welcome...This has been an ongoing project for the past 10 years! infact I have owned this car since 1984. drove it till 1994 and then elected to do a ground up restoration. Well a move overseas and 2 kids later with a return to Florida, slowed me down a bit...Plus my other car and wife is a strong distraction. But I promis to have the 14er running again! Sure, remember 24 years, suffering from CRS. 1st, 80k+miles stock, 2nd 60k+ miles, Stoked to 86ci, 3rd,4th, 40k+ miles, bored and stroked to 96ci, ported, radical cam, twin plugged, single fire ignition. Too make it short, the rocker boxes are the only parts of the original engine left. And she will fly, mirrows flatten at 110 mph, cheeks start fluttering at 130 mph. last dyno run, 82hp at rear wheel, you pay for horsepower. Pretty good for a old shovel.
Any other questions?

yeah, I'll have to visit the German and Austrian guys to see a running 914 cuz the Dutch guys are too cheap to actually have a running 914.
It will be in the spring/summer on the way to Spain.

Yeah, the date thread was getting tired. We're done with that. Oh, but swood's picture was in there, so it will need to be reposted.
Andy, your subtle wording astounds me...
And WOW, what's the silver car?! Pretty little monster.
Hi mer,
the car is actually a Dutch car, it's a Spyker Spyder T, with a 4.2 liter twin turbo Audi V8 producing 525 Bhp.
And I must confess it's not mine but I guess that's kinda obvious. These cars cost about $300 000
I had the possibility to visit the factory, it was nice, and that's a large understatement

Guess I've seen a story about the old ones in german TV more than a year ago.
Anyway, cool car

Geoff
Bleyseng, Frenchies are avail all thru Europe at just about any P car dealer. Maybe canada (?) pn 914.631.947.12 (L) and 914.631.948.12 ® Since the wraparound amber now becomes your rear "Side" d-o-t marker light...some PD's say it needs to be red (like USA). I stuck a small piece of red-transparent gift wrap paper there, and its held on for many years ! No probs with the Po-pos
I brought back a hellalotof these in Frankfurt and gave them out to friends a few years ago, rather inexpensive gifts. Then I had some shipped and they all needed gluing as the transit f--- them up

is it that little pizza joint with the windows on the beach? I used to skateboard by that all the time. At christmas time they bring out a bunch of man-made snow and spread it out for the kids
Picture yourself walking down to the pier and taking a left in the alley just before you get to the strand, right behind that mom and pop mexican place. Or if you remember where the comedy and magic club is, it's at the end of the parking lot at the strand. This is so cool, I gre up hanging out around there.
Oh, I know where you're talking about. I used to go to that place near the corner (by the bank) that was kind of a mexican/italian mix...can't remember the name, but they had good steaks and vino
Yep, that's it!!!!!!
Where the hell did you live in the south bay???
I lived on a boat in King Harbor (Redondo Beach). It was literally right next to the Hermosa/Redondo city line.
Yep, I know where King Harbor is. What the hell, I tried for 25 years to get in and no luck.
You know Miles or something??

The newly acquired wife and me later that day on the glacier.
...hmmmm....wondering how long it took to "recover" from the shrinkage of the glacier bath???
You know it's funny - that's what everyone asks. Thing is: I am already so small that it really just doesn't make that much difference...
You know, I was warm less than 3 minutes after I got out of there - standing on a glacier in my underwear and a pair of boots. The sun was just really warm. Plus I think my circulation was going pretty good after my dip.

Hrm, guess this thread works for introductions. Long time 'teener owner here. My '73 has been in the family since, well, 1973! Of course back then I was riding on the center cushion. It's been mine since 1985 or so, but a particularly hard year in 1986 finally made me park it to find something I didn't have to work on while I was in college. Since then, career, wife, kids, all that stuff has stood between me and driving my 'teener. One of these days...
Anyway, you don't wanna see a pic of the car. And the only one of me I can find is this one from a weekend trip to Eureka Springs...
And a pic of my daily driver, which I bought new in 1989. Gee, I have a thing about keeping cars a long time...
Anyway, hopefully this place'll help me get more motivated. Cheers!
Hello, I'm Britt's girlfriend. For those of you who were wondering if I exist, I'm here to testify that Britt wasn't imagining things...not this time anyway! I'm the one who gets to start the car while Britt messes with somethin in the back when we break down on the side of the interstate...but I still love the car.

In the teener:
They're actually made by Personal (of steering wheel fame - Italian made) and are datestamped '72 just like the car. I had no idea that Personal sold alloy wheels before I bought this car... Oh, they're 14x6s btw...
PS - Wouldn't you agree that they look remarkably like Porsche's latest (987 - 997) style of alloy wheel?
They really do. Maybe that is where the design idea came from? I like them.
What a trip Hydra, bet you don't see many other teeners running around.
My dad (not much of a car guy) tells me that there were plenty of teeners about back in the day. This guy I know once showed me a polaroid of 15 914s he owned, some were literally stacked atop one another! But yeah, teeners are all but extinct here now...

Small world -
My entire family (less my now immediate family) has been in Orange "proper" since 1910. We all went to St Johns (from both of my grandparents families to my current nieces and nephews). Walker Hall was built and donated by my great grand parents. My grandmothers childhood home is still there and is used as office building (retirement home?) on the north side of Chapman (two big lion statues out front). She now lives on Palm. My uncles CPA firm is just east of the old Snack Shop on Shaffer. My grandfather was the president of the bank on the Orange circle for 35 years (then the douchbags turned it into a cheesy mall) I still have a 10' section of the marble counter from the bank in my garage, and I am sitting in my grandfathers desk chair as I write this.
Our family names were Schroeder and Walker - and now some Leightfuss. The old-time families in that circle included the Amlings, the Bosch's, the Boezingers to name a few. The Schroeder Gallery on the north end of the circle (about a block from Chapman College) is owned by my aunt and uncle. Being a car guy, you may be familiar with Orange Engine on Glassell - for 30 years, that was my uncle Rich. Obviously Randy Ema's Duesenberg resto shop is right there two - he drove my grandmother to her last b-day party in a restored Cord that was identical to the one her father drove. Great guy.
My childhood was spent between Villa Park and Newport. We bailed out of there in 1982. I still get back to see grandmother everyother year - she just turned 96.

Cool, never done the nanty in a raft or canoe, but I've done it many times in my playboat. The NOC playwave down below the falls is alot of fun too. I comtemplated running Worser wesser ( the monster below the NOC wave) but didn't have my creekboat, or enough beer to talk myself into it. One day though...lol

This is how we go "Yakin' " in MO. My Bro-in-law and myself getting ready to launch. My yak (the green/yellow one) has a built-in 100w motorcycle stereo (uses a SD card with 480 songs), soft cooler under the front cowl with a 16 "beverage" capacity , and a 1/2 gal. coleman jug in the back just in case 16 isn't enough to make it down a 6 mile float trip.....didn't need to crack the jug . Just fwd of the back hatch the bullet speakers are visible. The rest of our friends, and other "floaters".

Eddie Sanchez and me. Eddie is an excellent VW mechanic that has helped me with the last 3 914-6 projects I've done. He was gracious enough to let me keep my car there for a year as we figured out the logistics of getting the 3.6 liter engine to work, the cooling, the wiring, the new fuel and brake lines, transmission, etc... He is a good sport and a true craftsman. I don't know, however, if he will be willing to do another build with me after all the time this one took away from his life and I wouldn't blame him! I just can't thank him enough.

Very nice.
This is me (Ty) and my youngest son, Tripp (4 years old). Each of my three boys love riding in the 914 (being the parent that drives the 12, 10, & 4 year olds around, it was not a very practical car to get). LOL
Of course it's practical....
You get to drive them around three times as much. You will get more mileage behind the wheel if you have another kid!
Yellow is nice.
Me. Not much else to say.
Hello, I'm using this thread to introduce myself (Car related matters on another page / thread).
I live in The Netherlands, 275 (German Autobahn!)miles from Stuttgart. Age, closer to 60 than 50..., married, two boys. Other interests: sailing, using petrol powered machinery for my garden.
Current stable (cars): BMW 3 Series, our daily driver; VW Up -not sold in the USA- a small in-town car. Classics: 1970 Saab 96 that I bought from the first owner in Sweden, 1959 Triumph TR3A totally restored over a 10 yr period.
Picture: taken last month on a breezy morning on North Captive FL.
Menno
Welcome Menno. I don't see a 914 in your stable. I take it you are in the market. Good luck, you came to the right place for research.

This is me driving my 75 914 1.8 daily driver, back when I was 18.

gentlemen
double post
Here's many of the Black Forest gang:
Left to right:
John Crusoe, owner/driver of the black #44 914-6
Sylvia, John's better half
One of John C's grandkids, sorry I forget his name ;-)
Cody Forbes (me!) in the middle with the white shirt
Wesley Forbes, my son
Leah Gray, my fiance whom handles the office duties here at BFR
Donna North, John Forbes' girlfriend
John Forbes
And last but not least, George, our apprentice whom is headed off to Porsche factory training school in October.
[Sorry, double post]
I'm new to the group. Greetings to all other 914 owners.
I hope nobody wants to burn me at the stake for converting my 914 to an all-electric vehicle. It's been my daily driver for the last couple of years. I can go about 40 miles on 80 cents worth of electricity.
Getting it to move is not the problem. Getting it to stop can be exciting at times as I've added 660 pounds to the vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to augment the brakes?
I'm also in the market for LED headlights. Every watt counts and I'm a distance junkie. The ones I've seen online are pretty pricy and I'm open to suggestion.
Thanks for letting me in your group.

From the Hot tub Time machine; Mattylight at age 4 , assisting in the re-assembly of Dad's black six, just back from the paint shop. Our first Father+ Son build ! Next stop; Cover car shot for European Car, circa 1995
A few years back ... prepping the 'BB's banana for new paint ...
Finally a 914 owner after many trying years as a lowly 993 owner...
Sold the 993 to align some finances towards other things and I immediately had sellers regret... But I always wanted a 914... so without hesitation, I picked up my 73 2.0 from a local buddy who needed to raise the cash to finish an RSR clone project and now I'm content until I cant stand it any longer and I end up doing a 6-swap.
Anyway...me... and me and wifey...

Most of the family.
Missing the golden doodle, the cat, the tortoise, the corn snake, the bearded dragon, and several fish.
My oldest working on our father-son project on a balmy summer day in Phoenix. It was 115+
One more of me and we'll see if anyone knows who I am with. I am on the right.

Looks like you're wrenching seven days a week ?
I'm on top of Mt. Scott. OK, with my LE wannabe. It was a tired but well preserved '76 when I got it. Since the engine build and predate bumpers and paint, I've added 40K+ miles to it. My wife thinks I should get a Cayman....Nah!...
And this is on a good day.

Well I couldn't find a good photo of me with the 914 that anyone could actually see what I look like. So I am posting 2 pics. This should be sufficient to scare everyone.
I know, not a 914 but at least it is a P car.

I was afraid to scroll down
This was taken a few years ago on a cruise. Most of you that know me realize that is not how I normally look. I usually have greasy hands, wild hair, and a stupid, 914 induced grin on my face.

20 years since this thread was started and I finally get around to posting a pic. Taken at the 2020 Historics @ our campsite above T5 Laguna.
It’s Been a year now with the car
With a lot of good and bad surprises, we are now formal and registered with classic license plates, I can now drive the car every day, the sound of the webers is hipnotic, the looks of the motor is what I always wanted, it’s a conversation starter, still a lot to do with the car, and eventually we will get there, for now I am enjoying it every time.
