So dad decided to get his vintage wheel to wheel liscense. He holds a PCA club racing liscense, but wants to play with the vintage club too.
The school was friday, saturday, and sunday.
He passed with flying colors.
He is not officially liscensed until he completes all of the events this season in good standing and gets signed off in october.... but at least he got the first 3 days under his belt.
I'll have to post more pictures tomorrow but here is a sample of some of the other students:

Teeners gallore...
I think there were 6 teeners present this weekend.
This car has participated multiple years past. Its owned by Greg Johnson, proprietor of one of the local shops. However he had a shoulder surgery and is going to be sitting out most of the season due to surgery. Rather than let a good car sit dormant, he is letting two of the nice guys at his shop use it:

both of these silver cars are owned by allen benjamin.
and they are both prepped by 3R racing (of speedvision fame)

There is a story about this car. It was the last vehicle raced by one of the local celebs that passed last year. His name was Danny Collins, and he was a fairly famous driver back into the fifties. He knew and was connected with very famous people and used to race agains some of the iconic names in america and europe. He used to run ferrarri's and such back then, and proceeded to go in and out of many cars over the last 20 years. He even was the designer of the colorado track we just lost (2nd creek)
He passed last year and this was the car he had.
His widow sold it.
He was in the middle of a freshening and the motor was apparently in pieces when he passed. The number I heard this weekend was AMAZING.... $3750 for the everything unassembled:

Don't you wish you had been in the right place at the right time for this one?
I know I do:

Gotta love the flare ontop of the flare:
(plus nice tire size!)

I like the Volvo, I always wanted to put a V8 in one and make a sleeper. I wonder if that Jag is fast enough to be worth all that ugly mods?
what's the story with those two silver cars? and are they coming back in may?
So it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks. Congratulations.
Which vintage group? VARA? HSR?
Sweet Pics Brant!
Was my Falcon there?
Ferg

Its an AJRS creation originally..
it has a good record and even cleaned up in a cali POC event in the past.

I intended to find out what the power plant for this was.

Brant,

Isn't that stuff heavy?

There is a whole story about the plane...
I believe its one of the planes that was imported from Russia of all places to southeast colorado...
long story, but I know the guy that used to bring them over.
(he owns an russian mig too... crazy!)

La Junta sure looks like a beautiful place. I can't wait until May 20th.
how many pages do you think I can run this up to?

This camaro was the loudest car at the event...
very aggressively driven
very fun to watch
at one point the 031 teener was catching up to it for the lead of the heat.
putting good pressure onto the camaro...
camaro spun and did a couple of 360's off into the dirt:

Brant - thanks for sharing the pics. There are some NEAT cars at those events!

more pics for ferg huh....

given our recent fiat cross-over I found this car interesting:

It was another SCCA car that is not technically vintage legal but a student was allowed to use it in exhibition:

Big freakin slicks...
I was blown away that this tiny motor held its own on the straight aways...
Attached thumbnail(s)
The X guys went on and on about how heavy their cars were.
I was surprised how light this one actually was:
Attached thumbnail(s)
A Very very very nice man named Joe owns this car.
its no slouch either.
hauls butt...
(can pull my teener on the straighs!)
Attached thumbnail(s)
seriously? your car is no slouch either.
what's he have in that thing?
I think he said it was a 1.8L
I'm hoping that my soon to be new gearing will make up some of the deficit I have with the datsun and bimmers on the straight aways.
brant
Great pics Brant. I know most guys think my car is ugly, but the Fiat X1/9 and the Jag are making me feel pretty good about my toy. I might just wash it now!
you should be damn proud...
and just so you know..
chalon's are damn fast cars.
the very fastest -4 race car I know of is a blue chalon.
I'll put the last few up tomorrow.
bed time for me
brant
alright.. lets wrap this up.
