914World.com _ 914World Garage _ What spark plugs to order

Posted by: turboman808 May 20 2006, 07:00 PM

I was told to get NGK8 which doesn't mean a whole lot to the Strauss. So I figure I would order them on EBAY. SO I am wondering what I need to get.

Anyways it's a 2.7 RS motors. I would prefer to get iridium NGK sparkplugs. I have had very good luck with them.

So can anyone help a brother out confused24.gif

So you have a 2.7L Mechanical Fuel Injection motor? The recommended plug is a Bosch W3DP0. Difficult plug to find. Might try an NGK BP7ES or a BP8ES. FWIW, this is a motor that doesn't like to be driven as a daily driver, doesn't like to be driven in traffic, and needs the revs kept up in the 4-5000 RPM range when you have any significant load on it. It tends to foul plugs when not being pushed a bit. That's why the special cold platinum plugs, which are used in very few other cars. They are NOT the same as the cheap and readily available Platinum plugs, and they list for $29.40 EACH. I can get them for you, and at a substantially better price. The Cap'n

They don't show a NGK iridium to fit it only a Denso. They show the NGK BP8ES as the standard plug.

I found the bp8es NGK too cold for my 2.7L with 9.7:1 compression....even with a MSD setup....which I highly recommend. I went to BP7ES and it starts much better and they havn't fouled out yet. The 8s really weren't that bad......prolly went thru 12 plugs per season, but they always fouled at inoppertune times.
The NGK copper electrode plugs are cheep to boot.....but not as cool as platinum.

Thats some good information. I better ask the motor builders advice. It's running a haltech computer with I beleive GM coil packs. I think the compressin is 10.5-1 or 11-1

I have just had very good luck with iridium plugs on the honda with msd ignition. Copper seemed to go pretty fast.

Ah.....well that's not hardly an RS spec motor then is it.
Talking to the builder is a good plan. Race gas is a good plan also. biggrin.gif
