914World.com _ 914World Garage _ ATTENTION, HPH/Bontempi Flares now available

Posted by: mrdezyne Jun 19 2006, 12:48 PM

Just got an email from Rich about several sets of fender flares he has and will have ready in the next few days.
He said there will be 3 weights, Heavy street version, regular street version, and light weight race versions.
He has a heavy street version set in his hot little hands right now and will have the medium weight sets in a couple days.
I have dibs on the medium weight but leaves others that have not been claimed.

If you had contacted Rich about flares in the past few months, give him a call and remind him who you are.

clap56.gif YEAH, I have rear flares coming!

Just making sure, isn't this JP's car?

And speaking of, haven't heard much from that ol chimney lately. Maybe too busy prepping for the WCC?

I wouldn't even hazard a guess on shipping. Give Rich a call or shoot him an email at InfoHPH@aol.com and let him know your interest. To go and pick up a set of rears at his place is a $600 bill. I still have to get shipping costs for me in the US.

Correct-a-mundo. That is the Stein-mans car early on. This is a photo fresh after paint. JP was the deciding factor for me to get the HPH flares, he sent me several photos of how he mounted them and what they looked like from different angles. I think he has the fronts as well with some minor modifications. I LOVE THIS CAR!

I really like the shape of Rich's flares, both front & rear. I didn't use the fronts as
my hand hammers jobbies were gud enuff.

The HPH rears are actually a whole quarter pannel.....door jamb to taillight and wrap around at each end. I assume they were made to replace the entire rear fender. The problem is they don't fit worth spit.....not even close, an inch or inch & a half too long. Had I removed the entire fender, I'd have been in deep caca. I had to hack the crap outta them to get the skin on over the fender.....thus the semi-funky install. confused24.gif

(edit) Shipping....go with the Hound.....The Gray one.....cheep, but ya gotta go to the station to pick em' up.

Posted by: mrdezyne Jun 20 2006, 10:36 AM

My plan was to hack the crap out of them anyway but this is good info since I haven't began to cut the rear quarters yet. IF, I can work it out, I'd like to finish the rear like a can-am ? fender. Let me find the pic...

I like the rear of this fender. Not sure if I can make it work with the HPH or not...

Sorry about that. I am starting to restore/mod my '71 914 and I have been researching flares and these seem rather unique. Any info is appreciated!

Cheers!

You may want to check out Chris' flares at Tangerine racing- All steel and subtle: http://www.tangerineracing.com/exterior_panels.htm

I have never seen them in person, but love the subtle design. If I do another 914, these will go on it for sure. Good luck.

They look even nicer in person! smile.gif

The HPH flares are designed to be Dzuts fastened onto the existing sheet metal, not molded in. My car took weeks of bodywork to mold in and they still dont look perfect.

That being said they are strong and support about 255 front tires and 295 rear tires.
