914World.com _ 914World Garage _ HELP! fuse 9 blowing

Posted by: messix Jun 27 2006, 03:40 PM

it's popping fuse 9, it does'nt do right away. volt meter will start at 12 and slowly creep down and blow the fuse. i've checked all circuts and it seems like the voltage reg might be intermitant. when the fuse is blown there is no charge to the batt.

any thoughts?

it's shorting....

get an ammeter and put inline with the fuse and watch it pull Amps when nothing on that circuit is being used.

Fuse 9 track to search for shorts... Fresh air fan (and possibly tail lights, tach, fuel gauge, oil temp gauge, voltage gauge, alternator idiot light, low fuel idiot light, oil pressure idiot light, clock).

done all the above. only thing that looks odd is that the voltmeter will start at 12v and stay there for 'bout 30-50 sec. then jump down to 10 then creep down till the fuse blows.

you could start at the fuel sender and start disconnecting stuff till it doesn't blow.

Here is the list of fused items on S9 for a 1974...

The AAR also causes fuses to pop if the power wire shorts...

you missed one!

the culprit was the backup light switch, the sheath is cracked at the tranny and was full of water, pulled the boot off and wires [ stank of of electric smoke] all good now.

now here's the rub, is hasn't rained in about a week and a half or better, and it was an intermitant problem.
