914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Dumb question about oil changes

Posted by: biosurfer1 Oct 14 2003, 10:25 PM

i was changing my oil today and i did it as i would any other car, pulled the drain plug, drained the oil and changed the filter, but when i added more oil, it only took 3.5 quarts and that was too much(by a little) and when i chacked the dip stick, it came back with dirty oil still on it, and my question is that, by pulling the drain plug, is that going to drain all the oil, or do i have to do more to get it all out? it just didnt seem like it was all out.

thanks

the dipstick ends right above the taco-plate.
if you didn't also remove the taco-plate, you'll still have some old oil sitting in there.
especially if the car was jacked up in the rear with the engine tilting forward.

3.5 quarts is about right, even with the oil-filter replaced.
