Well.....it took almost 5 months but the episode I worked will air this Tuesday night (25th). It's entitled "Junk in the Trunk". I wish I could tell you it was a 914.....maybe next time. The car was a 56 Caddy convertible that was actually in pretty decent shape. No major modifications were done, they referred to this build as an "elegant" build. Still, big bucks were spent. A friend of mine is the project co-ordinator for the show,Craig Chaffers. Basically he asked me to do it because of my recent, early Caddy knowledge. My responsibilities were R&R the engine and tranny and any other grunt work . Hope everyone enjoys the episode it was a fun deal.

I had my Navy Seal buddy contact "V" and let her know I was intrested in ANY Porsche builds they might do in the future. I told him to tell her about the Craig connection and that you had just done the show. We will see!

OH.. The perfect candidate just came to mind. The story is rock solid and the person who would be involved is well deserving!!!!

I found it interesting that Boyd's old CNC wheel guy showed up on the show a few weeks back designing wheels with Foose.

Boyd closed up his wheel shop, sold it to american racing....

so thus as the path of many, they go and work for foose....

You will see how many people were on the build, they're at the reveal. The car was deliverable but still needed some minor adjustments. The upholstery people were last and were having a tough time. The motor ran sweet, but my cohort on the drivetrain had backed off the choke adjustment prior to the 7 hour wait til the reveal. Thus when we started it, it didn't want to idle. I'm sure they will edit around that. I haven't seen any footage except when we were off screen during the reveal. They introduced us to the lady (Marilyn), basically one at a time on camera. Several of us had microphones on most of the time, but were only turned on during individual taping. Like I said....hopefully my part will come off well and everyone will enjoy the show.....Dad

Very cool. Overhaulin has got to be the best car show on basic cable. There could always be more emphasis on techniques but the people are real.

Oh wait, Brad are you talking about "sealing" my 914 for the show? Maybe I shouldn't respond to this thread

Can't really speak for ALL the owners but what few I have met were genuinely tricked. If you go to the TLC website you can access their forum and several of the owners are regulars on there. The husband of the owner of this Caddy ( Marilyn) came by during the week to check on the car and was just totally impressed with the talent he was experiencing there. He was also VERY impressed that some of us were there and NOT being paid. Oh yea....at the reveal he mentioned to a few of us that it had been awhile since he had......gotten any .....but was figuring that night was a sure thing . Be sure and listen to Marilyn during the reveal.......she had some very cute remarks about some of the builders( if they don't edit it out)............Dad

I thought it was a good show and a great car. They did a great job. Would have been cool if there was an 914 club t-shirt or hat snuck in there.

Congrats Dad Roberts! I think I spotted you a couple of times.

That was a great show. I really appreciate the fact that they kept that car classic, didn't put on the big Foose rims, kept the whitewalls, etc.

AJ is hot but Courtney's smile and dimples were infectious..

Awesome show, lots of chrome....you couldn't throw a couple 914 bumpers in that batch could ya (they never would have noticed). I'm a big Foose fan, is he as cool as he appears on TV and interviews?

I liked the build also. I'm betting they get a lot of good press out of this build. I'm tired of seeing lowered trucks/cars.

Even got the wife to watch it! The Caddy's trunk reminded me of the wife's closet(s)!!! Super cool color on the old barge...really made it stylin' for a '56!

And the motor did sound better after they buttoned it up with an exhaust system. Forgot how cool the original air cleaner looked on those cars! Like twin jet intakes...of course, it didn't hurt to paint it up and put "Foose" on it!

Great job to Dad!!! Told the wife in ten more years she can have her Lincoln Town Car overhauled! Don't think she saw the humor in that!

no.....but Dad wishes . It was one of the producers' cars. I read recently they built him a hot, black fastback Mustang.Thanks for the kind words gang. The shirt or hat idea woulda been great cept they supply ALL our shirts for the time on camera and even give us a list for which day to wear them . About AJ....she definately doesn't have what Courtney did...in any aspect. Her previous gig was the Fanta commercial..."Do ya wanna Fanta...Do ya wanna Fanta". She was in the long blonde wig. They filmed it in Bolivia and then she had to tour the US promoting it.The guys asked if she still had the wig......no, tossed it, she hated it.
The main reason I did this build was to hopefully get to work by Chip. I had met him before, but only briefly. I wanted to know if the man on TV was the same in real life? In my honest opinion, I haven't met anyone nicer. He spreads himself very thin. His shop was close by and he was constantly back and forth. And no, I didn't get over there(yet ). I got to work beside him on the morning of the reveal. A few of us had spent the night there finishing up details and he was there working on a drawing. About 6 am we were getting ready to leave and he came over to the Caddy and climbed in the trunk. I had been working on the automatic pulldown for the trunk and had it working perfectly , and after he got in he pulled it down. We all laughed and mentioned to him how brave he was. We opened it.....and he closed it again. Everybody just sorta shrugged and said...Oh well....guess he wants to sleep. We left him in the trunk and .....left . There was one guy whose job it was to keep an eye on things and everyone else split. I came back about 9 am and ran into Chip and asked when he got out? He said about 8 he woke up and banged a little til he let him out. 2 hours in the trunk....and back at it again.
He is a true talent that I am honored to say.....is a new friend of mine........Dad

Well......you saw what you saw, and heard what you heard . Actually, it did need some fine tuning. The guy that worked with me on the engine R&R decided, after completely warming up the engine, that he would back off the choke adjustment (none). Now this was back in Feb. Even in Socal it gets a bit nipply in the evenings. When they started the car it needed that choke, it wouldn't idle. There were other things such as the people who did the top didn't quite have their act together either. The car DID come out great, it just needed a bit more TLC , no pun intended.......Dad

Pretty damn cool.

Amazing how far Craig has come along.

When I met him he was still working for Sir Michaels! I think I was in my early 20's.

One of my friends from Texas is a frequent visitor to the show also: Ryan from "Vintage Air". He will be a success story in a few more years. Lots of talent in both Craig and Ryan. Ryan moved to San Antonio because of a GIRL and landed a job back in 1996-97 with Jack Chisenall (owner of Vintage Air) when they where building Jacks 200mph Studebaker (with the air on!)

I'm surprised I havent seen my friend Scott Wolter on the show. He was the lead tech for Tony Christians 57 Chevy "Fastest Street Car" in the NMCA back in the day. Scott now has a shop right at the 1/8th mile "lights" on the property of "Texas Raceway" In Kennedale.

I miss the Hot Rod scene.
