The airforce (I believe) is transporting a B-1 bomber on Interstate 70 tomorrow between Richmond, IN & Danville, IL. This is gonna be an incredibly cool thing to see. The escorts will not let you pass, like you'd fit anyway, but they will pull over if the backup gets too large behind them.
The plane is on its way for service in NE, I believe.
So, if you're coming here for the Fall Foliage Run via I-70 tomorrow take that into consideration.
Oh, if anyone sees it take some pics!
there is a great s.a.c museum btween omaha and lincoln. went there 4 yrs ago while in lincoln. prob heading for display. there are ww2 war birds, a black bird, just about every cold war era military aircraft. check it out sometime.

Prolly has a hot start solenoid problem.....
B-1s are swing wings. What is their clearance problem?

I've seen a number of B1s,B2s, SR71s, F117s in Chicago. There is an air show at Navy Pier every year around the 4th of July. They'd fly up and down the coastline of Lake Michigan right past our building. Quite the sight when they are close by.
I hope they don't tow it backward.
You can't tow one backward, the trunk will fly open and the top will fly off....
Ba Ba Ba Ba.....

CLearance problem?
These things are huge. I'm surprised thay can even transport one without the wings on the Interstate. Years ago when I worked at Sandia Nat'l Labs in NM, they were doing EMP/Lightning tests on one of these. One of the largest aircraft to be tested on "the rack".
I remember the day when it took off from Kirkland AFB. I was just walking up to a two story concrete building on the base and open the door when I hear this enormous rumble. The 2in-thick metal door starts vibrating, and I'm thinking WOOAAA!
So I back up to the clearing and overhead approaches this B1 bomber. The B1 was more than a mile from the building when the door was vibrating.
Too cool!
That should be hitting the IN/OH state line about the same time as me and Barber Dave, on our way to the Color tour.
I want my money back.
You haven't really seen a B-1 until it flies under you and FASTER than you. Pure power. Go Air Force!
I believe in the power of the B-52.
That's what I grew up with.

I don't know, I've experienced 2 F-15s taking off at afterburner, while on a ladder inside a hardened hanger. Even with the foot of concrete around me... with a German wine hangover at 0730.... my head wasn't that impressed.!!
