nice view of riverslime....
what happened?
Heading to on the 91 fwy, and suddenly I had no more excelleration, like I ran out of gas.
Luckily I was by the Tyler mall exit, so I costed off and parked in the mall. An oriental chick in sandals helped me push the 914 the rest of the way into the parking lot.
Still had power. Looked in the tank...there was gas. But wouldn't start.
pinched fuel line? clogged fuel filter? vapor lock?
are the injectors spraying fuel? can you smell gas??
all you need is air.fuel.spark.
verify which ones you have, and lets work from there
No spark
tell us about your ignition setup.
check all grounds etc?
points? optical crane? pertronix? compufire?
Changed to points when the Crane Electronic Ignition failed at the last RRC (that was the final problmatic solution by the way).
All grounds check.
Changing battery terminal. Broken by bolt.
Your battery terminal broke? Ouch... That might cause probs.
If you're changing batteries, go with an optima red top, or grab one of those orbital brand gel-cell batteries at kragen. Best $80 I spent
I think she means the terminal end clamp bolt broke.....no clamp, no full power for starts.
Ok, changed battery terminal (not post Brandon ) to new. Still wont start.
Fuel pump working. Plugs getting spark
Oops, got your reply in just before mine...
Fuel pump working, getting spark... It should run then. That means your injectors aren't firing or your timing is WAAAAY off. But I think the former, not the latter.
Now's a good time to test your CHT. Got an Ω meter handy?
Spark? Coil could have shorted cause of lack of power.....
OOPs. I ment NOT getting spark.
me bad....no read well
Points!
Check 'em before you wreck 'em.
Break out your business card and get ready to set 'em. If you still aint got this troubleshotted all out by 4:45 I'll head to Ron's and attempt to help (and not break anything more).
I suggest you walk down the street and buy two sets of Bosch points. Put one in your glove box, intall the other
Right on Dude. Here is the guilty culprit:
Points are closed!!!
So why were the points no longer opening??
Can you tell?
Can you open them up by hand??? They COULD be welded shut.
BTW...the chick in sandals????
Any pics?????
Yea, I could open them by hand (look closely at the second pic).
Sorry, not pics. Was too busy pushin the teener. But she did have very long hair, and cheep sun glasses. Slightly on the 'healthy' side.
Yep, it's completly gone.

I've got a very low mileage Pertronix module that I don't need anymore. It has maybe a year's worth of driving on it. Need to find the rotor that goes with it. gotta be in a box somewhere.
-Tony
Tony... If toasty doesn't claim that freebie I sure will... I got a spare rotor around here somewheres...
Claimed!
I gots a spare rotor for that. When ya want it?
Brandon: Bring it to the A/X.
Tony, are you coming to the A/X?
