We're cooking up a BBQ at McMark's house in Napa instead of a breakfast this month.
Date has been confirmed as Saturday, 26 Aug. It will be at McMark's house: 1046 2nd Ave, Napa, CA.
This will be free burgers, but you bring your own drinks. I'd also suggest bringing any condiments you want on your burger, and any other food you'd like to have and/or share. All I'm supplying is meat, buns, onions, and my particular favorite flavor of mustard.
There's a pool, so bring your swimming gear.
If you're not driving a 914, you'll need to park down the street at a nearby school. The driveway and immediate street parking will be 914s only.
Mark also has an engine ready for a "How to tear down a Type IV" session.
I figure everyone should start wandering in around 11:30 to 12, and we'll hang around until Mark kicks us out.
Attendees so far: 20
Me, my wife Susan
McMark, his SO?
Jenny, Brian?
ChrisNPDrider
Jeff Keyser, Kylie
Gwen
SirAndy
toon1
Nate
jimtab
Anthony
Randy, Sylvie
Marty Yeoman

Jeff Bowlsby
sounds awesome!!
August! Sept 2 is Labor Day weekend and I'm on a road trip.
Aug sounds good. Put me and Kylie on the list.
Fun idea!
Aug 26 would be better for me... maybe...
Sounds great, but I probably can't make the 26th. Sucks since it will be just a couple of miles from my house
I vote the 2nd, but I know that probably doesn't work for most people.
either way works for me ...
Andy
sounds like a good time, I will try to be there with the teener
I'll do my best to be there... Susan (my Susan) is due on September 4th - so I might be in the hospital playing catcher....
26th would work better for me.
Augusst good...Sept bad. Pasta salad????? Or smoked salmon dip and crackers???? Talk to me people...esp. Mark and Lapuwali since they are doing the "heavy lifting"....
I'm in! Either day is good.
I genuinely can't make either date, which is good because it's too far anyway.
But it sounds like a blast. I'd love to see Mark tearing apart a Type IV in his swimming pool!
My girl won't get home from work until later (4 or 5 pm).
Sept 2....I'll come up and pick up the red 914/6 and bring a few friends....
HEY...I DO HAVE them....
Either date should work for Sylvie and I, though the 26th would be a little better.
Let me know what we should bring!
Randy
You should bring whatever you want to bring. There will be burgers. Anything else you want, you bring. Drinks, salads, hot dogs, crisps, pigs with an apple in their mouth, whatever.
Hehehehe, you said crisps. I would expect such things from Fiid, but then again, you surprised me with the six conversion as well.
I'm an Aug 26 kind of guy.
I'll try to make it, but 8/26 works best for me. Assuming of course I'm able to googlemap Mark's house.
Add me to the list...either day works
I knew there was a reason I was a definite maybe... Soccer tournament the weekend of the 26th. Maybe Labor Day is better
I think we can officially say it's the 26th. What do you think James?
OK, first post has been edited with the correct date and location.
McMark, can you edit the title to correct the date?
See all of you there on the 26th. Let me know if your name isn't on the list in the first post and you intend to show.
Done!
Some maps...
Address is 1046 Second Ave, Napa CA 94558.

More images to confuse people. If you use Google Maps, this will help some.

I am a possibly-maybe. Almost definately without the SO. My car is also in need of a fuel pump, so not the 914 either.
Jen
Sounds like fun especially with the engine breakdown but I am out of town.
Next time.

I hope this BBQ is still on.
I can make it for a couple of hours. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
It's still on. See you then.
Mark, this is one event I hate to miss. I am on the board of my daughter's school, we have a board meeting that day. I think we finish around 3 or so.
I know it would make for a long day but I am tempted to drive two hours to see who is left at you place, sounds crazy but that's why we drive what we drive...right?
We'll be there as well, and I don't see any reason for us to take off before the sun sets.
I'm still up in the air.
1. BBQ
2. a/x @ Marina
3. races at Sears.
KT
As far as I'm concerned, we'll hang out as long as people are willing. Maybe I'll have to bring down the ping-pong table and we'll have some tournament fun.
Bump
James.
If I go to Marina, will you guys save me a burger?
KT
Mark, what time does the tear down start?
Trekkor, we'll do what we can.
Anthony, I don't know. What time do you want it to start? I'd guess between 1:30 & 2:00.
Is anyone heading up to the bbq that can meet 914_1.8t to grab some biggish
parts and drag them along for me?
He has graciously offered to
" meet one of the locals and give the parts to them." as he cannot attend.
These are control arms and axles.
I'm gonna make the trek down with some stupid old pictures and stories of James
to add some history to the memories.
patrick
I'm gonna try to come, but will have to bail out early. I've got a birthday dinner in Gilroy @ 6pm to attend. How long does it take to get to Napa from south San Jo anyway? Two hours? Less?
Jen
I'll be there. I'll probably be early, and sporting a 3 litre 6 of German construction.
Real 6's are horizontally opposed.
*bump*
Jen
I'm cleaning house right now. Gotta get the place looking sharp. Don't forget Original Customs BBQ has a two drink minimum.
Might not make it tomorrow - may be meeting up with a highly-recommended Suby tuner to evaluate my ECU.
Later,
Just read through this again....
Engine class starts 1:30-2:00
Tasty burgers are when?
We need to bring a minimum of 2 drinks?
I can harvest some BBQ able squash from my garden to contribute.
Burgers will be around noonish.
I have 24 burgers and buns, mayo, yellow mustard, ketchup, cheddar, and pickles. This is all I'll be providing. Anything else you want on your burger bring it along. Anything else you want to eat or drink, bring it along (chips, drinks, dessert, etc).
Don't forget we'll have the ping pong table set up and the pool will be OPEN!
I may sneak in
KT
I'm on my way.

Joe: You rock man.
SWEET!!!
The gauntlet has been thrown down. Now the NorCal guys are going to have to start showing up to SoCal events.
It was good to be there. What, 10 914's ( running ) on the property?

Mark - Thanks for the burger and being such a great BBQ host! It was great seeing so many familiar faces and meeting a bunch of new folks too.
I really appreciated Patrick (pffft) coming out and sharing his James Montebello stories and photos. That meant a lot.
Thanks for taking and posting those photos Andy!
Looking forward to yhr next get together.
Cheers,
Randy
Big thanks to Mark for hosting, and also big thanks to Patrick for making the trip and sharing pictures and stories about James.
Great job on the pictures! Thanks.
KT
Did you guys do the ceremonial "pee on Z's fender"?
I made it home without a ticket, got stopped in Napa by a Sargent before 5am. I was speeding and had a tail light out and he cut me slack. He wanted to know what I was doing there at 5, I told him about James and the Club, asked me what I did for a living and I said that I worked for a Co. of L.A. as a carpenter sup. He let me go. Traffic only stopped once in LA.
Travel time 6:45, not bad.
Thanks again Mark
God Bless James.
Joe Sharp
Notice any jackets missing, Joe? Or was that a gift. Thanks for coming up it was great to see you again.
Thanks to everyone who came for making it a successful and fun event. I had a good time. Jeff Bowlsby arrived around 10 am, and Mueller and SirAndy left around 10 pm.
Andy, I'm glad you grabbed some pictures, because I got distracted every time I went for my camera.
No Mark, That was a loading mistake. I put a wheel where the jacket was and frogot to put it back. Just bring it to the GAF.
Thanks again
Joe Sharp
Mmmmm, only one left over.
Sounds like you guys had a good time.
(YIPEE, I drove my 914 for the 1st time in about 18 months... up & down the alley)
did anyone else get a *weird* feeling about this thread?
James Montebello started it back on August 9th.
I had a great time too. Thank you Mark for hosting us. Nice to meet you Joe!
