914World.com _ 914World Garage _ To repack the CV's or not...

Posted by: yeahmag Aug 17 2006, 04:08 PM

I have the axles out of the car because I was putting in new bushings in the trailing arms and (used) Pagid Orange pads. Should I R&R the CV's while I have them out of the car or leave well enough alone?

I repack mine whenever they are out as cheap insurance. Its cheaper than replacing them because they dried out.

just my $0.02

When were they last done?

If they were already done a month ago, leave them.

If they were last cleaned and repacked 10 years and 100,000 mile ago, redo them.

If you don't know when they were last redone, redo them.

No idea when they were done... If ever. I'll order the kit and rebuild them. Any suggestions on what to use to get the old grease off?

Thanks.

If you don't know I say do it. It's messy but not that hard.
