914World.com _ 914World Garage _ GT Fuel Gauge

Posted by: Eric_Shea Aug 26 2006, 10:49 AM

Since I mounted the Hellas and will be puting another switch (THAT GRASSHOPPER IS SENDING... confused24.gif) in the location left of the wheel, that only left one place for the fuel gauge...

This is one of Dave's radio plates with a 2" tail pipe piece ($2.00 at your FLAPS) stretched. Bring your 2 1/16th gauge with you and they can stretch it on the spot.

Hacksaw in the vise at a "guesstimated" angle (probably why they call it a "hack" saw). Weld to the plate. Use the weld marks on the back to do a rough cut out and grind away the rest. I used a cut-off wheel to gingerly remove the welds on the front as there were some tight places to get into. The cut-off wheel can be your friend but you must be delicate and know where it's going and how it works.

I think I'll get with Morph and get enough dash material to cover everything and away we go...

A guy up in Canada... $800 bucks. Rare. One of a kind. w00t.gif

GT's mounted them in two locations. Some had them flat mounted on the left panel by the key and switched. It seems that "most" (most I've seen anyway) had them angled on the radio plate like this.

BTW mr copycat....

on the fog light switch. i may have an extra...
my pilots use the green (early) insert, and the Hellas use the amber (insert) to differentiate between the two LOL

Damn it I like that . been thinking of this for a while. Great idea but I think I need to make a fiberglass one. I have 3 gauges in this spot now. Radio???? Hell no couldn't hear it anyway.

I would need an address and a final cost to do that...

Here's your last PM: "Cool, I'll put it in the mail today and let you know what shipping costs...probably only two dollars or so."

I sent a subsequent PM that didn't get answered... confused24.gif

Scotty says PVC works as well. That might be good for the fiberglass route.

Eric, great fabrication job, as usual.

Here's a VDO item for the 2 1/16" gauge that will fit in the radio area. Their two gang unit replaces the panel perfectly, but appears to be NLA new.

Thanks,

Eric, et al

What is the source of this single gauge plate (who is Dave)? Is this from Rennmetal? I see they only offer a triple gauge plate. 

Posted by: bdstone914 Aug 18 2011, 10:57 AM

They have silver dot 2 1/16" gauges?! Great. now I need some to take apart. LOL

Posted by: Eric_Shea Aug 18 2011, 04:23 PM

Yes, Rennmetal.

Eric,
did you buy a blank plate and cut your own hole or did they produce a single hole plate?

Kev

Posted by: Eric_Shea Aug 18 2011, 05:31 PM

Blank Plate.

Posted by: Cap'n Krusty Aug 18 2011, 06:04 PM

Looks just like the VDO gas gauge I had in the thunder bus. What's the 800 bucks all about?

The Cap'n

Posted by: balljoint Aug 18 2011, 06:17 PM

Eric can't remember that far back, sheesh.

And by the way, I would prefer the tank to be 4/4 full instead of just 1/1. Cuz four is bigger. Right?

Posted by: MDG Aug 18 2011, 06:20 PM

Jeeze guys, Eric turned 50 this year. You're asking him questions about a 5 year old thread. That's a lot of remembering for the fella.

Posted by: balljoint Aug 18 2011, 06:49 PM

At least they're just testing his memory. Think of all the other things that Eric can't do now that he's 50! Poor lad. sad.gif

Go back and re-read the post. That was a joke about our buddy Gordon up in Canada (5 years ago) who was buying VDO outside temp gauges and trying to sell them in the classifieds for 3x list as NLA parts. When I called him on it he got pissed and left... sad.gif w00t.gif

Damn Canadians anywhoo! Oh... sorry Mike, Dave, didn't notice youz hosers had left the sandbox again ay?. ohmy.gif blink.gif

I'll probably get banned by the moderators, but here goes....

There have been enough requests for a single gauge plate, that I went ahead and made a short run of 50. The plate is flat, so if you want the angled look you are on your own.

Eric...if you are going to stir the pot.... git yer speelling rite!!! its "EH"!!

Crazy Ameracans!!!

Posted by: Elliot Cannon Nov 12 2011, 01:59 AM

I thought it was always followed by a question mark. As in, "that Canadian Club tastes like shit". "EH"??

Posted by: balljoint Nov 12 2011, 05:59 AM

Drinking C&C is a mistake. There are hundreds of much better Rye Whiskeys available. So in your example the question mark is appropriate; and I agree.

Agreed, David. However Elliot's punctuation is still flawed. The sentence should read, "That Canadian Club tastes like shit, eh?"

Remember, Elliot; 'eh' is used the same way you use 'huh.'

"So you're a Canadian, eh?"
"So you're an American, huh?"
