914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Imminent Cam failure?

Posted by: Mueller Oct 27 2003, 11:42 AM

see the pattern on the lobes...

Is the cam failing or the lifters??
It looks like the metal was "pushed" in order to make the impression????

or is this normal??

Mike, how old is the combo that came from. I have a couple of 100K cams that look like that. ohmy.gif

I'm not sure, when I bought the motor I was told it was completly rebuilt and I "assumed" it had a new cam, it is a factory cam for sure.

The motor itself has (had) less than 10K miles on it. (again, so I was told)

The double-arch pattern is the typical Type IV cam wear pattern.

The notch in the end of the lobe is the typical Type IV "throw that cam away" wear pattern. I'm guessing that the "rebuild" either didn't go into the bottom end of the motor, or they re-used the old cam.
