Posted by: nein14 Oct 3 2006, 09:32 AM

Gauging interest in a Group buy for a GT Mechanical headlight Kit , it would be fabricated from Original GT parts. As soon as I have an idea on how many are interested the vendor can come up wiyh a cost, thanks.

Posted by: Joe Ricard Oct 3 2006, 09:52 AM

I have no idea what it looks like. Sounds like it will make my car go faster so I think I am in.
Question is what is the $$$ per Pound.

Posted by: eric914 Oct 3 2006, 09:57 AM

I would be interested depending on price ($300-$400 would be cool, $600+ would not).

Posted by: gopack Oct 3 2006, 09:58 AM

Please elaborate on the advantages of a GT style kit. Is it just for the cool factor? or for those looking to precisely replicate a factory GT? or shave a few ounces? AFAIK, there aren't any issues with the stock headlight motor/relay/mechanisms are there?
TIA

Posted by: Joe Ricard Oct 3 2006, 10:04 AM

Well the head light stuff has worked well for my car. being 36 1/2 years old I'd say that pretty good.
But I am looking to lose the motors and stuff to cut pound not ounces.

Posted by: nein14 Oct 3 2006, 10:06 AM

It does shave weight about 8lbs. per motor, and of course it all about the GT cool factor smoke.gif

Posted by: Aaron Cox Oct 3 2006, 10:07 AM

purely weight savings...

no motors.. just a "strut" and cable setup

Posted by: boxstr Oct 3 2006, 10:43 AM

This is the GT kit that was recently up for bid on German Ebay.
Bidding began at 250. euros and ended at 550. euros

Posted by: bjorn jacobson Oct 3 2006, 10:55 AM

Posted by: echocanyons Oct 3 2006, 11:44 AM

Posted by: nein14 Oct 3 2006, 12:03 PM

As soon as I get a count on how many kits we need I will be able to give everyone the cost and delivery time.

Very very interested here! Have been looking for a kit for more than a year. I have been talking to aircooledracing for at least a year, they have said many times they are going to make a kit, still waiting. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif If you have source, great!! Put me on the list.

Posted by: effutuo101 Oct 3 2006, 01:29 PM

I can snap one of my car...just too dark out right now to get a good look at it...will try to add one here tomorrow.

Posted by: echocanyons Oct 4 2006, 08:16 PM

Any luck on those pictures Pete?

Posted by: horizontally-opposed Oct 4 2006, 09:08 PM

Would also be in for a $200-300 kit — if the quality is top-notch.

Also curious about how well the setup will weather repeated usage over the years... factory looked at 914-6 GTs as disposable cars (much like all of their race cars, then and now).

Maybe I need to research these more.

But I am still VERY interested. Also, can anyone confirm the weight savings?

There is a ton of pic's here:

Posted by: echocanyons Oct 4 2006, 09:59 PM

The link has the mechanical parts but no pictures of the pull mounting location inside the drivers compartment.

I am guessing it is the pull in this picture that is to the right of the ?hazard lights and tho the left of the ign switch. But I dont know for sure.

pull knob can be anywhere ,most came through were the trunk pull was, as GT didnt use the trunk release.

sweet!

Posted by: JPB Nov 11 2006, 09:08 AM

If all they do is raise the headlights and one has to manually lower them later, I can see a similar kit going for $200 max plus shipping. Its not a factory repro but lighter and more modern than the old style. biggrin.gif

Posted by: nein14 Nov 11 2006, 10:50 AM

So it is clear, this will be a Repro kit copied from REAL GT parts. biggrin.gif

Posted by: JPB Nov 11 2006, 05:42 PM

Anything as the repro deal would be some real money but new and improved, I don't see it past $200 dollars. At least not in parts. If the stimulated market is for a copy of the original, I'm not a fan of that but I can see making something similar as a kit and much cheaper and definately sympler as a bolt on.

I've been wanting to do this myself not knowing it was as popular as evidently seen here and it purked my ears. My car is almost done painting and it is looking freekin crazzy sweet. Once out, i will tackel this kit head on ASAP and have one this winter. I will be making all the parts myself and it will all be high end matrials and craftsmanship. I don't expect it to be expensive and sorry if I hijacked this thread. smile.gif

Its been a couple weeks since the last post on here. I've been asking every possible supplier I can think of for this kit and a replica front hood pin kit (square plates) for the last few weeks and someone pointed me in the direction of this thread.
Is anything happening with this ? Or is it dead ?

Definitely up for a kit.

On different issue can anybody give me any advice on where to get a GT replica front hood pin kit ? I have found that a number of the suppleirs who list them on their websites don't do the replica kits any more. Please PM if you can help rather than distracting this thread.

I'm looking for a kit for the 'GT kudos' and to save weight on my trackand road rally car I'm building. Fabricating bits of metal is not my idea of fun so I'm looking for a kit made by someone who knows what they are doing. Happy to pay the money for someone else to do the clever bit. Lifes too short ! Less time in the garage wearing my fingers down is more time driving !
Do you know anything about where this idea got to ?

Oh, and I need pins because I have bought a fibreglass hood and rear deck. Getting the GT look is just pose value !

Posted by: Jeroen Nov 30 2006, 07:56 PM

I understand why you want pins and the GT correct look
But why bother with a kit? Anyone could make these with very simple hand tools in less than an hour

but what are you doing awake anyway?

Update:
Just spoke to Steve Limbert of Air Cooled Racing who owns the Max Mortiz (914/6 GT.

He will be making a first run of 24 units of the GT Headlight Kit , at a cost of $339.00. This will be a duplicate of the parts that are in his GT.

All parts will be Cad plated and powdercoated this will be a complete bolt in kit.

To order a kit contact Steve direct at Air Cooled Racing 1-717-432-4116, he said the kits should be ready in about a month.

Seeing is believing, I have been or should say had been talking to Steve for well more than a year about Aircooled making those kits. I finally gave up when Armando Serrano of Pbase 9146GT fame contacted me and we bought some complete kits from europe. They were quite spendy, are currently waiting for delivery. smile.gif

Posted by: nein14 Jan 19 2007, 03:44 PM

I know they cost you at least twice what Steve is going to sell them for, I had spoke to Armando about them too when I bought his 15 x 8 Minilites.

Steve has already removed the parts from his GT and they are at the machine shop. smile.gif

My emails were bounced back so I just phoned Steve - the go ahead relies (as John originally stated) on getting commitment for 24 sets.

I said I'd take 2 sets - I'm sure at this price we should be able to get at least 24 commitments...

OK Here we go, I posted this thread and had 31 members post replies stating they wanted a set of these GT headlight kits.

Steve Limbert of Air Cooled Racing has spent a lot of time taking apart His factory GT car to have the parts fabricated to build the kits and as of this morning he has only gotten 3 orders!

Hey guys were everbody at ????????

He had more than three calls when I ordered mine over two weeks ago. He said he was innundated with calls. He even mentioned people calling from overseas. Is there a communication issue? Do you think I should call him again? Let me know your thoughts.

Ian,

I can contact him for you. If you have a means of purchase I can even buy them for you. Steve mentioned to me that he would be calling back (sometime around now) to get the initial deposit. Pieces were at the platers.

If you have a credit card I can just buy them for your and ship them to you for whatever the cost is.

Let me know if that helps.

Eric

P.S. John, when I did the GT handle and strap group buy, I forwarded a link (via PM) to everyone that was on the list. I had about 99% follow through from the people on the list. My guess is there's a lot of people here who have forgotten or lost the info. You may simply want to send Steve's contact info to the people who signed up here to make sure they're good to go.

Pretty sad when there was 31 members the replied to the thread and stated they wanted the Kits. The price was based on that quantity, hoprfully Steve will be able to hold that cost.

At this point he will only be making 12 Kits total so when their gone their gone! So anyone else who wants one call him direct at 717-432-4116 no email orders.

I don't think I really need a kit, because I made my own. But if Steve ends up with unsold parts on his hands, because some purchasers did not come through with cash, I might take one kit. In other words, don't count on me, but I might be able to help.

After getting a heads up PM from Eric, I too ordered a set. Had a great conversation with Steve. Nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Sometimes theses threads go waaay off topic, and I hadn't checked in for a while. My guess, given my personal experience, is that out of the 31 members who expressed interest, that only 5 - 7 will actually order some.

I haven't had a reply to my mail yet sad.gif What address should I be using?

Matt - my original emails were bounced back so I phoned Steve & ordered the kits.

He gave me his direct email address which is:

My guess, given my personal experience, is that out of the 31 members who expressed interest, that only 5 - 7 will actually order some.

Well... I did well with the GT Handles. I think only one person bailed. These things are hard to predict.

To be fair to the people, a few of them did say sub $200 or $300 range. Also, a lot of people needed to be informed that this was still alive.

Now... to expect a project like this at sub $200-$300 is a bit unrealistic as well.

This should be a fantastic buy at a great price. Many thanks to John and Steve smilie_pokal.gif

Thanks for the Kudos Eric! clap56.gif

Steve is a Great Guy , to offer to take his Real GT apart to fabricate parts for us is HUGH!! I don't think there are many owners would do that.

I spoke to him Friday and he is going to try to email me pics of the proto-type installed. I will post them as soon as I get them. smile.gif

John - any update on these ?

Posted by: nein14 Feb 25 2007, 07:06 AM

Actually I was at Air Cooled Racing yesterday for a Central Pa PCA tech session. Steve is expecting the parts back from the Macine Shop hopefully end of next week.

Here are some pics from yesterday smile.gif

I spoke with Steve last week. The parts were still in the "plating" stage. I'll try to give him a call today.

I was at Steve's Sat. for a PCA Tech session and spoke to him yesterday. Parts are still in process. smile.gif

When I spoke to Steve on the phone a month or 2 ago,he told me he'd need about that much time to get these lift kits done,as he was outsourcing the work.

I mentioned to him at the time, that if he was that far out timewise I'd like to just pick up my unit at the Hershey swap cause I know he's always setup there anyways.

He said that would be fine as he felt certain things would be ready by then.

I don't know if it's fact, but thats just where my discussion with him went.

OK, I know it sounds like a broken record but I spoke to Steve yesterday. He is gong to pick them up from the plating vendor and the only thing he is waiting on are the cables.

Steve said he will have them done before the Hershey Swap Meet on 4/28 were I will see him and pick mine up , and he will be calling everyone who ordered them before Hershey. smile.gif

Posted by: kckoch May 1 2007, 03:00 PM

Just spoke with Steve. He has all the parts, however he was displeased with the cable splitter (plastic) and is having metal ones made. He is hoping to have them completed by end of month, and he will then call and ask for money, so he can ship.

Thanks Steve!

Almost the end of the month and wondering if anyone has heard aything??

Posted by: RON S. May 30 2007, 05:57 AM

I talked to Steve last month at the Hershey swap meet.

I came with money in my hand ready to get my kit.

He showed me some kits already put together except for one piece.

He was waiting for the cables with the cable splitters in them.According to him he was not satisfied with the quality of the first couple of cables he received, and sent them back to get a better quality splitter.

He told me that when the cables are manufactured and are both cosmetically acceptable and of good quality. He'll be ready to ship the kits.

Any 'new news' on this group buy?

Posted by: Eric_Shea Jun 13 2007, 06:40 PM

Yup,

Reliable sources say the kits are done but (as above) the cable splitter wasn't up to par. People actually put their hands on the kits at Hershey and they said they looked spot on.

I'd say the best thing to do is give Steve a call for an update on the splitter. I just spoke to Ron (above) today and he had great things to say about them but lamented the splitter didn't look as good as the rest of the kit.

Steve wants to do this right.

Posted by: nein14 Jun 14 2007, 07:36 AM

Update: spoke to Steve yesterday the spitter came out great, now the final part are the cables which he expecting any day.

Once he has approved the sample from the vendor he should have them all within a few weeks.

Posted by: RON S. Jun 14 2007, 10:50 AM

I'm ready to go. biggrin.gif

Everything was there but the cables with the splitter assembly.

Gauging interest in a Group buy for a GT Mechanical headlight Kit , it would be fabricated from Original GT parts. As soon as I have an idea on how many are interested the vendor can come up wiyh a cost, thanks.

What did the price end up being on the kits and are there any still available?

The splitter is done he is still waiting on the cables, I spoke to him last friday.

John, Eric,

Any news?

Posted by: amallagh Aug 15 2007, 01:55 PM

I had to drop out of this opportunity before Christmas 2006 because it had already taken over the original time expectation and I had to ship my package of GT conversion parts&car to the UK. It has been interesting (and considerably less frustrating) watching this from the sidelines.
I hope you all get your parts and the quality meets the high expectations that must have built up in peoples minds by now. If (and I hope when ) this kit actually becomes available and is proved in service, I hope someone directly involved has the fore thought to offer another batch for those mere mortals less patient than a Saint.

I look on with interest !!

Steve has a lot of money and time invested in this project and to date has not cash anyone checks that have made payment and told me he wil not until he has everything for the kits, which is one part.

So that being siad he is committed to making this happen, so everyone hang in there. Thanks

I just got off the phone with Steve - wish I had known about this buy I would have asked about it.
Steve will be at the VIR at the Glen weekend of the 20th and then will be leaving for Daytona the 29th.
He is incharge of the Tech inspections for all the cars running in Daytona.
At this time there are at least 20 917 signed up and over 300 porsches.
So if you can make it to Daytona Nov 1 2 3 it should be a great time. There are at least 30 Porsche cars coming from europe that have never before been in the states.

Sorry for the highjack - if needed I can drive to Steves shop and see whats up.

Steve is a OLD SCHOOL kind of guy - Yes he has a computer(old one and he rarely uses it). I have found that it is best to call him on the phone

John,
I've been following this thread since Nov 2006 and indicated I would buy a kit if it was sub $300 back on 1st Dec 2006. Recently I've seen mention of a 'list' and some confusion about whether money should have been sent or not.
(One one thing more frustrating than waiting all day for a bus. That's waiting for a bus all day, only to find there is no room on it when it arrives !)

Would it be possible to clarify who exactly is on the 'LIST', how many kits are going to be made and what price these kits are likely to be now they are nearly finished.
Many thanks
Andrew

Just thought I would throw out a teaser, even though I am not even on the list. I was over at Air Cooled Racing yesterday. Ended up talking with Steve for about an hour. I saw the kits. They look great. He is waiting for the cables, everything else is done.

WTF.gif

Jeez, give the guy a break. dry.gif He offers to build us a 914 6 GT headlight kit and he is waiting on a cable issue. He wants to do it right.

If you are tired of waiting, then build it or find it yourself. Its not like you have paid for the things and not received them!

I'll bet there are a few who would love to have your place in line!

I am happy to wait. I like his kit and I would like it to work without cable problems.

When its ready, its ready.

I rubbed my lamp and the gennie inside said he couldn't even make them without any issues so I will still wait. I am happy to see someone as anal about quality as I am.

Since Iam the guy that started this project with Steve, Iam glad to see somebody else understands the process. Iam tried of these guys complaining its taking to long.

Posted by: Eric_Shea Feb 7 2008, 02:20 PM

I don't think there's any need to ruffle feathers on either side of the fence. I don't think Stephen was complaining... he made a joke and said he's is "waiting patiently". Steve's joking about it when I spoke to him on the phone. He was worried about being "Lynched" at Hershey. biggrin.gif

There's no doubt this has taken longer than any other group buy out there. Well over a year ago it was going to be a month.

I think we all need to understand that Steve runs a very successful race shop and he has many "bill paying" projects to attend to. With all the time and effort put into this I doubt he's making any coin on it. Also, he wants to do it right.

Hang tight, bump the thread every now and again and, that fateful day will come. There's "really" no need to get worked up or piss anyone off over something as simple as this.

I'm sure I don't need to point out to any of us who have been following this thread that it started back in October 2006. I first saw it on 1st Dec 2006 and confirmed my interest in a single set at that time. Due to the ambiguity about how to actually get included on the 'list' in the early stages I found a couple of months later that I was not included and no more kits were available . C'est La Vie.
Given the near 18 months of development that have gone into making these kits, and the obvious interest there is from other 914 owners, would it not be sensible for Steve to make a second batch after the first batch is finished ?
Surely this would be a tiny amount of extra effort for double the delight of fellow 914 owners ?

What do you think John ?
Andrew

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Feb 11 2008, 04:16 AM

Steve actually told me he is thinking that he will do another run after this first one is finished and delivered. He said the interest is high enough for him to do so, and it wouldn't be much of a problem as he will have everything figured out.

Hi Andrew
First thanks for the interest, Steve and I have talked about a second run right after the first list of interested parties was collected back in '07. We wanted to wait until the first run of kits were completed fabicating , which as everyone following this thread knows has taken some time!

We are very fourtunate that Steve was willing to disasemble his REAL GT and make the kits after my repeated requests.

The thing that bother me is some members here started to leave threads stating what they were willing to pay for the kits.

I can tell you after Steve had the kits finally completed he is not making any thing on them. So he is considering making a second run, however I'm sure if the price go's up IMHO a lot of member wil start with negative comments about why.

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Feb 11 2008, 12:14 PM

The price should go up, and he should sell some to performance and paragon once he's done and make a killing off of them wink.gif Steve is very nice for doing this, and he should be rewarded by it.

John,
thanks for giving those of us not on the 'list' a glimmer of hope to cling to.
I thought I had secured a kit back in 2006 but somehow that didn't happen when it came to the 'list'. We all live in the real World where things cost money, and we don't have enough of the stuff to buy everything we want. Some peoples Worlds are more 'real' than other, but they are all 'real'. As such we all make decisions about what we buy based on how much things cost and how much we want or need them.
I absolutely agree with the philosophy you suggest about waiting until the first batch is delivered before taking names for the second. I trust by that stage Steve will have a cost worked out so the speculating "prepared to pay up to $?" comments be avoided.

Anyone (not meaning you) confusing these real life buying decisions, with not appreciating what Steve is doing for his fellow 914 owners is reading things that aren't there. It is just real life for those of us whose World is maybe a little more 'real' than some of our fellow enthusiast.

Just for the record I would like to thank Steve (and you) for the efforts he is making in-case that has not come across loud and clear.

I will continue to watch this thread with enthusiastic interest and would appreciate anything you can do to encourage Steve to make a second batch for the equally virtuous members who may have missed out on the first.
(Maybe that 2nd batch needs to be a little bigger ? Gauging by the responce on here I'm sure they won't be left sitting on the shelf !)

Many thanks
Andrew

OK Guys, here is the lastest. I just got off the phone with Steve, the sheathing for the cables was the wrong size and had to be reordered and has not shown up.

So he assured me he will get them completed after Hershey, which is tomorrow.

He has a lot of time and money in time and parts that he needs and as everyone who has sent him checks he has not cashed any of them.

So please hang in there I know it 's been way too long smile.gif

John,

My situation is the same as Andrew's. I should have watched this thread more closely after my first post. My assumption was my mistake.

I too would be very interested should Steve decide to do a second batch. Certainly for one set, possibly for two.

Price would matter to me, but $200-400 seems just fine. Beyond that, I'd have to think about it (especially for two sets) but I too feel Steve should be making money on these, as it is VERY cool of him to do what he's doing....

I saw and talk with Steve yesterday at Hershey. I know it has taken 18 months to get this to happen but Steve has a very sucessfull business that comes first.

As I said before this was a favor he was doing for (me) and this 914 site that he really isn't making a money on with the first run because of all his time invested and is still very willing to do it.

To clear up any confusion when I started this thread, I started the list based on the number of kits that were going to be maded by Steve and the list was a first come first serve. So when that number was exhausted he told me would then possibly consider making a second run.

If you look at the thread from the begining you will see everyone who posted a reply to me in decending order is on the list I posted.

Hopefully after all the time and money invested Steve has in this project , he will make another run of the kits.

Thanks for everyone's interested smile.gif

I was able to find a possible strut that might work, it's rated at 15 lbs. which was the lowest rating after I found after a long search. Steve is going to order a pair and test them, hopefully they will be not be too strong.

UPDATE !!

Spoke with Steve this morning, he has installed a kit in a test vehicle to develop the instructions they found after installation that the struts were too strong and they are exchanging them for a weaker one. Also they need to fab one more small bracket and they will be ready to go. smile.gif

Spoke to Steve last week.. he encounter another set back of sorts..The struts that he has on hand is way too too strong for this applic. As some of you know, over the years, the rear wings got a little heavy ie Turbo. Thus all current struts have been superceed to the TURBO type... now for the 'hunt' for low pressure one sad.gif This hunt for the low pressure item has been going on for about a month now. FYI

I was able to find a possible strut that might work, it's rated at 15 lbs. which was the lowest rating after I found after a long search. Steve is going to order a pair and test them, hopefully they will be not be too strong.

Any further updates?? smile.gif

I wish I could tell you yes, I speak to him at least once a week. He has been just to busy with the shop to do any testing sad.gif

I will see him over the weekend at a vintage race and will bug the shit out of him, it's been too too long, were so close.

John,
Is there any way to just get them w/o the headlight shocks? (thats one part that we could source ourselves)

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Oct 22 2008, 09:22 AM

I don't have a horse in this race, but the shocks should be the easy part. 30 minutes on the McMaster Carr website should be the end of that problem. I have seen shocks that worked perfectly for this application. I have a set of them sitting in my "future projects" area.

I ask him that, sorry no.

Posted by: nein14 Oct 22 2008, 09:41 AM

I spoke with Steve yesterday, and as you guys know he already has a unit asembiled to test the shocks. I have already sourced a strut that I think will work(15lbs./pressure).

He told me he is trying to get to it asap, but he is very busy. he promised me he will get to it because he has a lot of time any money in this project.

I know you heard this before be a little more patient.

I would hope that the list would be followed. Early on I got a call from Steve about this and was told to hold my money for a little while. Turns out I am not even on the list to get one from the first batch. Missed it by 2 or three people.

Keeping the interest going... What's the status:(

Posted by: Eric_Shea Feb 19 2009, 09:05 AM

Hi John,

We're entering into the third "year" on this.

I'm sure I speak for all when I say we appreciate your efforts on putting this together and we really appreciate that Steve has gone the extra mile to arrange the parts for this kit.

I hope my preface shows the true gratitude at which I approach this. That being said; do you think we can get some resolution on this? No mallice, just wondering if we should look elsewhere.

OK, I'm as frustrated as everyone else sad.gif

I speak to Steve on a weekly basis, he is a 2 man operation and has been extremely busy, and he has apologized to me many times.

That being said he is still commited to completing the kits, the problem has been over the struts being to strong and have the tendency to bend the headlight doors.

I already asked him if he would sell the kits w/o the struts and he answer is no, he wants to have a complete kit with the correct the struts.

So again everyone please hang in there

I talked to Steve briefly at Hershey this year.

No real news to say other than he still hadn't resolved the strut issue.

My only concern i told him was that the check I sent him for the kit probably wouldn't go through after all this time seeing as to how he hadn't cashed any that were sent to him. He told me not to worry about it, we'd fix that minor issue later.

I'm still being patient.

They need to be made.
This group buy is years old, with no resolution. The people that sent checks would, at best, have to resend them as they have probably timed out by now. Even if it does get finished, there are several people that want them that are not in on the buy.

With all that it took to get this done making a second run for another vendor to sell I would say is out of the question , sorry
try mittlemotor in germany

Posted by: Phoenix 914-6GT Mar 31 2010, 09:33 AM

Well, not to sound rude but if he gets these done will he have the time to do a second run? Would he be opposed to working with someone like Mark on getting more of these?

I do not believe it would be the goal of anyone to undercut the work that has been done but rather speed up the process since some of us have more time to do this.

Posted by: Vacca Rabite Mar 31 2010, 10:04 AM

I have talked to Steve about these kits twice. Once at Hershey last year, and once in his shop 2 years ago. I like his shop, and am interested in the kits. He does great work. Both times he indicated that he was not interested in making another run. Maybe things have changed, and once he gets all the bugs worked out he will change his mind. But given the fact that it has taken years at this point - literally- I would not hold my breath about it.

I am not suggesting that anyone undercut anyone. I am saying that if Aircooled Racing did not do a second run and Mark (or any of the other quality vendors we have on this site) marketed a kit, I'd be on board. There are a number of people that are interested in these that can not get in on this buy - assuming that it does in fact get finished.

Why support Mittlemotor, when I can choose to support vendors that actively support us?

I suggested mittlemotor only because it has been another source for the original factory GT headlight kit

As far as Steve go's he did me a favor in fabricating these kits for us from his Max Moritz Real GT. Their was plenty of oppportunity to get in on the start of the thread to get a kit.

The actual cost that Steve had sold them for is less than what he has in material and time to make them happen, so your right there won't be a second run.

And if it was such a snap to fabricate and sell at a reasonably price why hasn't someone done it already

it's a snap when someone is copying what someone else has already done

I talked with Steve about two weeks ago and they weren't quite ready. Your note above intimates that they have been sold. Are they now ready?

Either way, I'm sticking with Steve as he has put the time and effort into these. I know first hand the amount of effort it takes with orders for parts here. (And I only did decals!) Please let us know when we need to pay and finalize the deal.

I am interested in one (1) maybe two (2) depending on price.

they are already made and spoken for sorry, according to the list smile.gif

Oh sorry, I wasn't trying to say I want in on these. I read where there are two lists, the original list and one "just in case someone drops out" list. I couldn't find either to put my name on so I was just saying that if someone (anyone) made more that I would buy one and maybe two.

anyone who has followed this thread from the beginning knows I have been in contact with Steve on a weekly basis on the project, so let me be clear they are complete and will be avaliable shortly to who ever is on the list that I gave Steve.

If someone wants to fabricate their own to make avaliable to sell on this site be my guest smile.gif

I'm not tring to ruin someone's parade here, but if these are not in process, I do have ties at Mittlemotor and was proposing a group buy if I could get the cost in the right range. That way it would be a proven product and short turn around.

If I'm out of line here let me know, I'm only trying to help, and I don't intend to make this a for profit thing on my side.

I have a customer who has done something *similar* to the original that's very cool. Would someone be interested in something that is not an exact copy of the original?

QUOTE(amallagh @ Aug 15 2007, 07:55 PM) *

I had to drop out of this opportunity before Christmas 2006 because it had already taken over the original time expectation and I had to ship my package of GT conversion parts&car to the UK. It has been interesting (and considerably less frustrating) watching this from the sidelines.
I hope you all get your parts and the quality meets the high expectations that must have built up in peoples minds by now. If (and I hope when ) this kit actually becomes available and is proved in service, I hope someone directly involved has the fore thought to offer another batch for those mere mortals less patient than a Saint.

I look on with interest !!

Apologies for quoting myself, but it is from 3 years ago ! All very pretentious I know icon22_2.gif
There is clearly plenty of demand out there beyond the select few on the list for this thread who have now surely reached exalted status for their faith and patience. Anyone who has hung on for over 3 years is hardly likely to drop out now !
If someone else did decide to produce a kit more commercially then I'd be up for one. As someone else has said I'm sure Pelican, AA and Performance Products would all be very interested in selling them on an ongoing basis. As someone has said all kits are just copied variations on the original theme so there is no virgin design that anyone has any claim to any more.

I could care less if it's an exact copy of the original. I want to eliminate the headlight motors and have the headlights go up when I pull a knob, lever, coat hanger etc. just want it to work. So what does your friend have available ? And thanks for chiming in. beerchug.gif

The above logic seems correct - except that I 'STILL' use the same bank that I wrote the check on..the only thing is the check number will be out of sequence...and the date.. other wise if the depositing bank attempts to 'deposit' my bank will allow it to flow through - especially since I've never even reported it lost and or to cancel it.

Steve and I've have already addressed this possible bump ..his comment was that he would simply contact said check holder of situation and have them resend a new check... I hope this opens some light to this possible concern... oh yes he also thank everyone for their patience too. smile.gif

I'd be in.

Sorry John (nein14), but 4 years is a Joke. I'm not on the original list ( I don't think), but if I had sent a check to someone 4 years ago for something and didn't get it, somebody would get a beat-down.

If these ever do get made & shipped, some will be offered up after the fact just like the AA group buy Flares.

I have it on good authority that they're not dead, but instead living on a sheep ranch in Montana and working on the GT kits in the barn. The kits would have been available sooner, but Elvis needed help. Now with Michael there, the kits will be available really soon. lol-2.gif

One thousand three hundred and sixty-five days and counting. Approaching the 4 year anniversary on this group buy. av-943.gif

If you put $0.32 cents per day in a cookie jar you could hit the Mittlemotor site today and buy the actual "GT" version of this kit... not the Meaney version. ohmy.gif

Now, if you put that same money in the market, you could probably be re-bounding by now with enough to buy a rusty 914! headbang.gif

If you calculate the amount of time you've spent re-checking this thread, you would find that you've actually lost more money than these things would have cost you if they were to ever come to fruition. w00t.gif

I would like a set as well. My first 914, after driving it for a little over a year went to the shop to get repaired and then refreshed. 13 years later, $10k into it and still in the shop, it was scrapped. This can only happen once, right? So I'd like to be in on this if there is room. I have high hopes!

Steve has always been helpful and honest in my dealings with him, but you only buy what he currently has ready to sell. Waiting for stuff to get made can take a long time and he is easily distracted.

For you it may not be about the 5 years. To the people that gave checks (albeit not cashed) it looks and smells like a rip off. I beleive you; Steve is not a theif. But... 5 years??? Have you personally accounted for every check? Maybe there is more in the 17-18 page thread that explains the delay. Regardless, 5 years is too long to wait. Steve should have returned all payments until he was ready to ship product. 5 year old checks are not any good anyway. No reputable bank will cash a check that old.

He's cashed my check years ago, and as far as I'm concerned, I wrote him off about the same time.

I bought the GT kit that Mikey offered from MittleMotor last year.
Hold your breath and hope for a miracle if you want to but I'm done with the guy. lol-2.gif lol-2.gif lol-2.gif lol-2.gif lol-2.gif lol-2.gif

I want to publicly Apologize to John, Steve, and the rest of the users and members of this board forum.

A couple of months back I made a reply to a last posting on this thread.

John, you are fully correct in your request, my comments were made in the heat of thought on this issue, not thoroughly thought through, and did not belong here.

I apologize, and it will not happen again.

QUOTE(nein14 @ Oct 3 2006, 07:32 AM) *

Gauging interest in a Group buy for a GT Mechanical headlight Kit , it would be fabricated from Original GT parts. As soon as I have an idea on how many are interested the vendor can come up wiyh a cost, thanks.

Nein14,

What ever became of this Group Buy that you started in Oct 3 2006?
I ask, because some of us sent in checks. I was able to get hold of Steve several months back. He mentioned its coming and that he was waiting on you for some test fit info.

Any updates is much appreciated sad.gif

We actually did get the GT kits from Mittlemotor for what it's worth.

Posted by: ConeDodger Jan 3 2013, 12:11 AM

FWIW, I was on that list and I was asked not to send a check until the kit was fully developed. It never was, I never sent money. Not sure what the drama is about... blink.gif

Alright... let's call it a day on this. People being mean to each other. John gets mad when people ask about stuff. It's self evident that this is never going to happen.

Mittlemotor has been making the accepted more "standard" version of the GT headlight kit for some time now (not the Meany version). Mark Whitesell even brought some into the country for a reasonable price.

We have a thread that's 2239 days old. If you saved just $0.25 per day you could now pay cash for these (at today's exchange rate and a reasonable amount to ship them):

Train wreck is officially over.
