914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Modifying early 914-6 grills to driving light grills

Posted by: amallagh Oct 5 2006, 06:41 PM

Has anyone had any experience of modifying the continuous grills on a 914-6 to accomodate driving lights ? Is this feasible and how do you do it ?

(I'm just trying to avoid spending $250 on new ones - no shame in that - and good second hand ones seem hard to come by)

nevr done it, but I would try the following.

Draw the diameter on the grill and masking tape everything but the circle.
Both sides to prevent cracking.

cut with a dremel.
Use a coffee can, or go to the store with a tape measure and find a can that is the perfect size.
Cut and glue that in place to make the extension piece...

Or, keep hunting for good used ones.

It can't be that hard to find used ones.

Barry Johnson has a set of good ones sitting there. PM him

I don't think cutting up the others will work. Get the Pilot lites from Camp914 as they fit prefectly and blast the road with lite!!! clap56.gif

Modifying won't work - too fragile.

I have a set that is no good for concours, but could be redone or even stripped & painted. Solid, but ugly.

$10/pair + shipping (I don't do handling), if anyone's interested.
