30 Now! Wow! I don't care where we meet. I don't think anybody does. Another place is Palm Street Bar & Grill in Carmichael. We had one there not long ago. great parking, great food and I can reserve a special area. (Just an idea). Not that just it is close to me but a great menu. Everybody chime in where!!!!!!

Weekends (Saturday) are easier to travel a distance. Though I voted for breakfast, lunch would make more sense if people from farther away were showing up.

I don't have any location suggestions, but defer to the wisdom of the group (is that a bad idea?)

Nov. 11 sounds like a good start.

My gosh! Who is voting on this? 45 votes and counting!

BJ's Brew Pub is good in Folsom. Cheezers is good. Another good place is Texas West in Roseville. Mel's Diner in Sacramento at Howe and FO Blvd. Nice places in Elk Grove too...

I think we want to set this up as a regular thing. How about each month on the Saturday closest to the 14th since this is a 914 holy day. So given that, our first could be Saturday the 11th at Cheezer's in Rancho Cordova at lets say 12:00 noon? We can rotate locations but lets keep the Saturday closest to the 14th thing going on... beerchug.gif

I am often working on Saturdays, but that would still be a better day for me. We could perhaps work it so we do them around town. Someplace off Garden Hwy, like Swabbies before the rains start, or the Sonic in Woodland, or Yuba City wherever that is; maybe someplace in Fairfield or Vacaville too, be more likely to pull people into participating if you can make it convenient from various locations.

Northern California encompasses a lot of territory, we could make it a scenic route to Poor Reds in Auburn, or in someplace in the Delta how about Al the Wop's(probalby can't say that here) in Locke?, make the journey equal or even superior to the conversation discussing it.

Hell(can I say that here?), we could even do a 914's at V.Sattui or some other convenient winery in Napa or Sonoma. The crush is coming up.

Posted by: porschecb Oct 12 2006, 06:33 PM

I like your ideas Toby. We could do a local lunch then a tour type lunch. Its to bad with all the people you see on the members map more people would join us or at least look at club site more often to see stuff like this. Oh well! I like Martin's idea to let PCA know about what we are up to. I know I will list these events on Ebay for free (Porsche 914) then see who shows up. biggrin.gif piratenanner.gif clap56.gif happy11.gif idea.gif

Our dog only needed the collar for a while, broke him of the habit. You just had to show him the collar and he would stop barking.

I am sort of afraid to bolt it down, would need the wheel to be in there face down, fear scraping it up, though it does have a good sized ding in the lip from a fireman being a little less than careful with it as he tossed it out the hole he chopped in the side of the house.

Toby with the tire properly inflated, it will not rub on the trunk floor, unless the floor is bent. Has the front of your car been hit?

Is there anyone attending the Nov. 11th Nor Cal Martinfest that would happen to be travelling back to So Cal area? I am trying to work some logistics on transporting two '75 bumpers from Sactown to somewhere withing striking distance to San Diego.

If anyone is able/willing to run the parts, please PM me.

Sorry for the hijacked.gif and hope you all have a great event in any regards.

Cheers,

It's quite a drive for Bay Area folks to attend, I went to one of the 914 Breakfasts in Santa something, 2 hour drive each way, it was an all day deal for me...so someone from SoCal is a SUPER DUPER long shot, but all 914 Folks are Welcome, and encouraged to attend!

Martin has my trailer anytime he wants it as long as I don't need it and since I am towing the club trailer down behind my truck I guess I don't need it. What I do need is a way to get my car down there. Volunteers?

All the way to Fairfield? You do what you gotta I guess, she should do well, good luck again.

It was fun in Stockton, not too far either. Should have taken back roads home, but was in a hurry. Mather would be nice, seems to me one of the folks in the know said the facility was the one broke that off, not the PCA.

I dropped about 2 seconds off each run, is that 'bout average for a first time?

Loud and fast, good combo, kept backfiring late in the day. There was another grey top who was right next to me. Terry Zuccini, or something like that. Old 911 targa, did not get a pic, nice guy.

Toby,

Two seconds a lap is phenomenal on any day.

Alison was my driver for my car. Martin would have been towing his. I was towing the club autocross trailer. Because Alison had her gall bladder attack the whole plan fell apart. I had many offers to drive OPC (other peoples cars) but I chose not to as I felt a little down yesterday.

The 911 that was backfiring has the old duel battery set up. The hold downs are gone and he has a strange looking T built out of 2X4s that holds the batteries in place. During the afternoon runs the T fell out of its position and caused the batteries to lose contact so the carbs loaded up and the car would backfire.

The guy with the old Targa which by the way is probably the most famous 911 targa in the US. It has a name, Marcel and it was featured in Excellence this year, is actually Terry Zacconi. You will find mention of him in Henry Watts book on autocrossing. Look for the Zacconi method under steering wheel techniques.
This car has over 300K miles on it. Many, were DE, TT, and autocross miles.

I am working on Mather. It was Homeland Security that cut off that relationship post 9/11. They wanted a big fence between the runway and the event to keep terrorist autocrossers from getting to the runway. Now they have eased the requirement. Still not sure it will happen.

Posted by: Tobra Oct 30 2006, 10:01 PM

Famous eh? well what do I know from famous.

Guess that is why the other dude started laughing at me when I said, "You must be serious about this." to him when I commented regarding his getting on the knee pads and gloves when he was changing out his tires. If only I had the presence of mind to ask him why he called the car Marcel instead...

Mather would be nice, what about McLellan? Nobody flyin' outta there anymore, I bet they even have a runway that is not too awful. Perhaps over at the State Fairgrounds.

Mclellan will never happen as far as I can tell. They do still fly out of there. In fact the airfield is controlled out of the towers at Sac Metro. Coast Guard, Helicopter school, Sac Sherrifs Choppers and many others still use it. We quit using the Expo because they charged $2000 per day and reserved the right to cancel the event up to 24 hours in advance.

I love it! You actually said that? One of the announcers during the event said "and here comes Terry Zacconi and Marcel on their 14,344th autocross run together..." The number is fictictious, but probably not too far off.

Posted by: Martin Baker Oct 31 2006, 07:39 PM

Could also be you have a loose or worn cone screw. Take's a couple of seconds to check. I do have synthetic gear lube in the gearbox, but its not recommended. I will change it out soon.

Martin

Posted by: Tobra Oct 31 2006, 11:14 PM

Good to hear Alison came through it okay. 914 is the wrong car to ride in after surgery, probably especially that red one with the setup you have on it right now. Shoulda driven the 10 MPG car instead of the 30 MPG one.

Michael, could be your spring is getting sprung on that shifter. As I understand it, there is a little spring loaded doo dad that is supposed to keep you from nicking reverse going to second. Mine was really vague when the bushings were bad, and sort of similar when the cone screw backed out because I thought the new nylon insert meant no need for blue loctite.

Will have to put the windshield wipers on I should think, may just find out if she leaks

This one has a bionic knee

I will be there tomorrow come rain or shine. My wife has a previously scheduled gathering of friends Sat. morning, which usually runs into early afternoon. She won't be able to come with.

If it rains I won't have to wash my car in the morning!

Martin, that looks like Stockton Fairgrounds, when was that?

Actually that was at Mather...SCCA event. Car is pushing and sliding, on weather cracked, rock hard tires.

FINAL icon_bump.gif !

Ummm... Tell him the rest of the story. That was Mather, true. The car was pushing and sliding, true, Tires were crap, true.
The rest of the story is that Martin had just rescued the car from the side of a house where it had sat not running with a worn out clutch for years. He pulled out the transaxle, had the flywheel refaced by a machine shop that didn't know what they were doing and had to take it out and put it in, what? three times before he finally got the right regrind done? At that autocross he had also not slept in about 30 hours and STILL managed to spank some SCCA a** with a 32 year old car that isn't even a real Porsche.
He had resurrected that car from "found in yard - dead" to daily driver in about 2 weeks.

Notice the picture below... Martin staged at this event. SHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Baby sleeping.

i had a good time too, nice to finally put faces with the names. i'm happy to report that even after not seeing rain for roughly 20 years, all the seals held up and there was no water where its not supposed to be...not that i'm going to test it much in the rain, its nice to know I could if i needed to.

+1
Have you tried running a wire, like a guitar string or something down the drain?

My car did not leak at all, BTW, so that is good

I have no idea where to start looking for the drains. I will jack up the pass. side and take a peak. I was going to run water through the fresh air vent and try to find the pass. drain but if I jack it up to far it may not drain. Or i may just live with it.

Hey! guess what? Hyanes has a picture of the drains! I might be in luck. biggrin.gif
