jason at cmppls dot com

There are 4 (including me) that I know of right now:

Jason Panciera (me) '74 2.4 -6 conversion (Youngsville/Wake Forest)
Robert Plank '76 2.0/'80 911SC (North Raleigh)
Richard Casto '72 -6 conversion..long term project (RTP)
Ben Thomas '74 2.0 (Cary)

Who else is out there??? Come on, Chapel Hill, Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro....where are you guys???

Thats quite a stretch for me but I'd like to meet some people around upstate SC with 914's. The only people I have found so far are ones that used to own them.

I will be around your area 10/22 for the Fast Times at Farmington VW show. I'd love to see you come out, show your car and/or let me take a ride in it. cool.gif

Jason,

Hey, you know I am in!

You know more of the local 914 owners than myself. There is the guy that works at the Transporter Werks in Raleigh (I think his name is Gary) that has a 914 that he drives occasionally and I think he also has another 914 widebody that he is working on at the shop. Don't know if he is a member here or not. When I visited the shop a few months back, they had a 914 on a rotisserie and I can’t remember who the owner was, but it was someone local and I didn’t recognize the name.

The http://www.frappr.com/914club/ site shows a guy in Chapel Hill and a few more farther out from Raleigh. Might try PMing a few of them. I recently joined PCA and the newsletters list a few 914 owners including a guy who apparently runs Targa Newfoundland in his 914! I am guessing that many of the PCA crowd are not as much into DIY a deeply as most people here, so they may not be members on this forum.

Hey guys,

I e-mailed Gary and Frank (guy from Craigslist). I don't think that they are on this board.

Richard-
You've been in! Loaning me those axles so I could finish the weekend at VIR is what this contact list is all about, a way us locals can pool our resources!!
Thanks for pointing out Gary, had forgotten him. I'll call TW and get his contact info.
Let's try to bump this thing and keep it on the front page for a few days to see whose attention we can grab.

Ben-
Is there anyone else you can think of out your way?

Richard-
My new axles came today...are you running the last AX? Where is it going to be?

Posted by: jmcguffin Oct 19 2006, 06:59 PM

I'm over in Chapel Hill with a '76 pulled down for a freshen up. Guess I need to get it finished in the near future so we can meet up.

Cheers,

Jim McGuffin

Jim-
Great to hear from you!! Email or PM me your contact info, numbers, etc with a little info on your car. And get crackin' on that car!

It's at Sanford, but I am not going to be there. No rush getting them back unless they are taking up space at your place. smile.gif Probably best thing is for me to drop by your office around lunch sometime (Wake Forest right?) and pick them up. I work downtown Raleigh, so a lunch trip wouldn't be that long. We can work out a date sometime in the next few weeks.

Jim, No need to wait until the car is finished. If I did that, I might be a few years before I am able to see anyone. smile.gif

Mine looks nearly like my avatar!! I am pulling it all apart so I can do some work and eventually repaint it. I am down to the gas tank, dash and wiring.

Posted by: BenNC Oct 20 2006, 02:25 PM

Yeah, we should probably make it clear that a running 914 is not a prerequisite.

Based upon what I know about the folks that have responded so far, Jason is the oddball runner. I have no idea how he keeps track of his jackstands if they're not firmly secured under the car.

If you guys need to do a quick transfer of axles, I'll be up Jason's way Saturday and I work in Durham.

I'm down in the Charlotte area (South Carolina side). It's nice to know who is in the mid-atlantic/southeast.

I have a 76 that I'm pulling apart to combat the evil forces of rust.... so it's a long term project sawzall-smiley.gif welder.gif

It's a four banger with about 300 miles on the rebuild. Not on jack stands at the moment.

I am in Asheville...but my in-laws are in Raleigh...maybe this might be a good way to get out of the house. I have a 76 green 914 and it runs! When is the get together going to happen? boldblue.gif

Posted by: JJ914 Oct 23 2006, 06:28 AM

Hey jdogg,

I got the car a straightened out. It was just really bad out of alignment. Brad at Digital Chassies did a great job on it.

Posted by: topatrout914 Oct 23 2006, 06:56 AM

I'm in Thomasville just outside off Greensboro. I Just bought a yellow 72 a few weeks ago in Angier NC @ a used car lot. It's in pretty decent shape but I'm still shaking out a few bugs. beerchug.gif

Glad it was simple alignment issue. Brad is a great guy, very meticulous in his approach.

Trout-
Let's see some more pics of that car!

The pic on my avatar is from the day I had it delivered. I've had a couple of 914 before so its nice to be back. I'll get some more pics posted after I get home tonight. It runs pretty good, has dual carbs & a MSD box. Seems to run out of fuel on the top end though. I just haven't had a lot of time to spend with her yet. driving.gif

icon_bump.gif Just want to see if anybody else in the Carolinas is paying attention. Jdogg couldn't get my pics to load here they're to big. Check the local site! More to come.....

Saw the pictures Trout, it looks great!

I have sent everyones information to Ben, all who responded should be getting an email from him to join a local yahoo list.

We'll try to keep this on the front page for a few more days and see if we can catch any more.....

I looked on the Members Map and there are several folks in the Winston-Salem area if we could contact them. Looks like we're finally putting together a decent network of enthusiasts!!

Attached ImageI am in Summerfield just outside of Greensboro. I have a 71 that is currently under a full restoration. I know of one other member that lives out here also. Here is the latest picture from today. Cutting out the rust and getting ready for the steal flares. I should have it back for Christmas. If anyone needs a Great Shop just let me know. They are the Best. All there work win's tons of awards.

Howie-
Looks like an ambitious project!!!! PM or email me your contact info so we can get you in the database.

Looks like an interesting collection of cars out this way...and it seems an interesting ratio of running vs. non-running...I think it is a perfect 50-50 split!

Posted by: black914 Oct 24 2006, 06:37 PM

Hey, Raleigh NC Teeners! I am not in the Triangle area but I do reside in the Triad area. I am in King, NC which is about twenty minutes north of Winston-Salem straight up Hwy 52. I am between W-S and Pilot Mountain.

I would be interested in getting up with other 914 owners in NC on occasion. I have a 1975 914 with dual carb conversion. I will post a picture.

I have seen a couple of other 914's in the area but I have not had the opportunity to talk with them.

Keep in touch if you guys plan a get together! Add me to your list of contacts!

OK...one more icon_bump.gif to the top.....who is still out there????

Posted by: JMPVW73 Oct 26 2006, 11:01 AM

Flat out ignoring people is not the best way to build a network. I'm going to PM you anyway. My car is a stock yellow '74 driver with Mahle wheels on it now but I have more than one pair of shoes for it. I need a set of rocker covers for it. The ones on it are flat home made jobs w/ no jack hole.

I'd be interested in doing something in Charlotte or Ashville in the spring. I prefer car shows or get togethers that are visible to people not attending them. There was a pic posted recently of 3 914's in a strip mall parking lot. To just about everyone seeing one of them is rare and a handfull draws a lot of attention.

icon_bump.gif So now that we have group of people why don't we try to figure out something to do. With the holiday season right around the corner maybe we could plan something for January-February so people can have plenty of time to plan and get a good turn out. Any thoughts??
