914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Love My New Vanagon.

It cost $1000.

It drove 80mph all the way home from San Diego.

It's fun to drive.

And it's in good shape.

What was I thinking?

i love it. do you think it would tow a small enclosed trailer, say, 2000 lbs?

Dude, you were thinking Subaru transplant victim...candidate rather. There's one in our area that has one and does wheelies!

Will it have a parking brake or do you have to carry the chunks of wood everywhere? poke.gif

The owner's manual actually says it will tow 2000# max. blink.gif

The parking brakes actually work perfectly. I have no idea why the 'stops' were used previously.

I changed my mind. It's going TDI with a second tank for WVO from Turtle.

I would think that if Leo's Westfalia was able to flat tow his 914 from California to NJ you should be OK using Dave Lee's towbar setup to flat tow behind the more modern VW camper...

Just my $0.02

In theory, I agree. I'm just surprised the owner's manual actually said 2000#.

My 1999 beetle has a class 1 hitch which says 2,000lbs max... The tow bar/bracket setup worked beautifully this past w'end - 400 miles w/no probs. I think the 2,000 rule is so that you don't try to tow 2,500 or 3,000lbs w/it. 2,100 or 2,200 would prob be OK.
