914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Announcing the First Annual Atomic RAMBLE!
Posted by: Series9 Nov 3 2006, 12:52 PM
May 25-28 2007. Memorial Day weekend.
Located in and around Rio Rancho/Albuquerque, NM.
Registration is FREE!
Every attendee gets a FREE T-shirt or Hat. (We'll decide later)
Beer is FREE!
Most meals are FREE!
Nico, Liz, Luckie and myself are looking to put on the social event of 2007. We are paying for the shirts, beer and food so you don't have to.
My intention is to attempt to have the first mixing of Texans/Okies with the Westerners. I want to coax guys across the invisible barrier that seems to exist at the TX/NM state line.
Basic itinerary:
Friday:
Reception and Beer drinking.
Saturday:
Drive to Sandia Crest (about 45min to 10,300'). Group photos.
Drive home for cookout and beer.
Sunday:
Car wash.
Car show.
Cookout and beer.
Awards.
Monday:
Group breakfast.
Afternoon beers.
This event is intended to have less driving and more socializing. After all, you drove enough just to get here.
We have a dedicated brewery and a fun-loving staff. There will be no politics on this one. We are taking full financial responsibility, so we answer only to ourselves.
This is a general discussion thread. The official registration thread will follow some time next month.
Potential sponsors: Please PM me with offers.

If you would like to attend, please let us know so we have some idea how many we can expect.
I'd like to see 40 cars.
Also, I request a logo from our graphically talented members.
It should incorporate these two symbols in some way:

The barrier exists because of the 500 miles of NOTHING between North TX and Albq.
Posted by: SLITS Nov 3 2006, 02:03 PM
I'm in and I'll bring my own radiation suit!!
Oh and add a shroom cloud to the logo!

Sounds fun, but I don't think I'd go unless there was beer involved.

I'm in! But I may not be a true test, as I grew up in the four corners before I moved to OK.
Posted by: MW 914 Nov 3 2006, 03:05 PM
I'm in. You seem like nice folks. I could probably manage to have a good time.
Joe - This will be the largest attended event in 914 history. That's what happens when you put the word "FREE" in a 914 invite.
what he isn't telling us is that the "free" beer is Hamm's and not the good Turtle Mountain stuff! You have to go to the champagne room for the good stuff

What's with the atomic theme? Los Alamos?
Probably so, in a way. If I know Joe, it's 'cos I'm gonna be there and I am well known for glowing in the dark and breaking Geiger counters at 3 meters. 10 years at LANL will do that to ya.
Speaking of Los Alamos, I was hoping we could do the Tour d' Jemez and head up to the Valle Grande, but that road is ... well, it can be heavily patrolled by both local and out-of-state blue-haired tourists. Thought I was gonna refer to the polizei, didn't ya? In any event, the drive up to Sandia Crest is actually very nice too, and has more opportunities to pull off to the side of the road and take unnecessary pictures of Slits doing something rude to Howard, or at least of everyone's cars.
By the way, before anyone asks, yes I'll be trading nuclear secrets for 914 parts (no more meth - they're cracking down on that)
I'm trying to assemble my own teener from y'alls spare parts.
- Swede (Mad) aka Nelson - this is a
joke by the way, for the LANL secutiry types reading my posts. No really, I'm kidding.

FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE.. FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE..FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE..FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE..????? Never use the words free and beer in the same sentence.
I might be able to make it. Would like to.. Would need to wait until it get's closer to be able to commit...

I really appreaciate this. You guys are the first to go forward and provide an event without the normal cash up-front. I know we can have events that don't cost us BIG BUCKS. John Petterson is waiting for the PCA to post thier events calender to set a date for the TWVW, at which point we will attempt to do something similar.
A BIG THANKS to you, Joe, Niko Lauren and Liz

Brad, $150 can be a lot of $$ to: Students, unemployed, the retired or people with smaller incomes.............

and we had joe o. bring us free beer on top of the $150 bucks. so, there you have it ...
i tend to agree, $150 once a year for a big event with lots of good stuff going on is not what i would call "big bucks".
i spent more than that on a normal weekend (even without the strippers) ...

Sounds great. I've made that trip in the 914 more than once. I drove from Tulsa to San Diego, and back. Got a friend in Las Vegas NM that I visit every year or so. But ya gota have beer!!!!!!
Posted by: Leo Imperial Nov 3 2006, 05:55 PM
Hmm,
1997.88 miles / 65 mph = 30.42 hours x 2 + free beer x 2 days
1997.88 x 2 / 25 mpg = 159.83 gallons
159.83 x $3.00 = $479.49
Free beer x 48 hrs = 3 bph (Beers per hour)@$3.33/beer
You say I get a free hat right?
Posted by: 9magazine Nov 3 2006, 07:15 PM
Hey guys, as a former New Mexican I think the local PCA club does an event that same weekend. But either way I think I can join the group and be a sponser of the event.

Thanks Daniel. I like that alot. Simple and yellow; you just can't go wrong.
Posted by: dlo914 Nov 4 2006, 04:28 PM
i try to limit the amount of colors to lower the cost per shirt. since more colors equal more $$$.

Let's have a raffle. The winner gets a plane ticket on Southwest to attend the event.
Hopefully, someone from the east coast will win.
So now the event costs a little money. $8 each.

I do think this will be the same weekend as the PCA fiesta is normally held in Albq.
I believe that is a 100+ porsche car attended event.
I believe thay will be holding their annual autox at sandia, as well as their car show.
Its none of my business, but you may want to consider tagging onto some of their events.
they actually get a decent 914 turn out for fiesta from the colorado contingent.
Nice job on this Joe!

It is the same weekend as Fiesta. I'm more interested in pulling 914s from Fiesta to visit our event. PCA doesn't allow any participation without paying the full entry fee, so I won't be heading down.

Looks like I might get to make up for missing the MUSR this year! I plan on being there in one car or another. Albuquerque was only about 8-9 hours from WF. I'm bettin it's about the same from OKC. Looks like there oughta be plenty of people to "caravan" with out there! Have to see if I can put in for vacation this early. (I'm lovin working for Dell for so many reasons!)
Still need to bring that stub axle back to Dallas...

Betty and I are planning on being there. With two 914s, we can take at least ONE of them and drive out.
If the OK guys are OK with it ,( HUH... I made a funny) we can pick a place to link the DFW and OK Caravans. WF or Abliene would be good. Let's see how many 914s we can get in a caravan headed west!

I'd be happy to link up in WF. My brother is sorta interested in going, but it's a long ways off to be positive.

Not to stir up any dirt, (OK I Am troublemaker) but is the Tee shirt design going to have the "914WORLD" logo on it now, or club NARP, or what?
Also, If I can , please put my name in for the raffle SWA ticket. Is there a donation required to enter or what?
Maybe I should trailer my tub and parts down there and let the drunken hoard converge on it?
that would complete the circle: trailered from NM to ID, ID to WI and WI to NM, and then DRIVEN home!

It's going to be additional miles for Okies to deviate from I-40. I suggest we all meet at my house.
Actually, I think Wichita Falls sounds acceptable and would be worth some extra miles to caravan with our TX bretheren and it would reduce a bit of the interstate boredom.

Rea had a great time at MUSR8 in Fort Smith this fall, so she's ready to try another P-car event.
I'm ready to make motel reservations. I guess I'm waiting on Joe to announce which ones will be in the vicinity of the events.
Look forward to seeing you guys!

IT would be better for the DFW folks to meet up with the OKC folks in Amarillo. Thats where we would pick up I-40, and you would just come straight across.
It's about the halfway point, and it is 9.5 hours from DFW to ABQ. So we could all meet for lunch in Amarillo.
Now.... We need 2 things. Accommodation information from the event organizers, and we need to know who is going from both DFW and OKC so we can organize the respective caravans.
Posted by: dagdal1967 Jan 31 2007, 10:51 PM
Well, there has been nothing about this for a while (except in the "win a ticket" thread)...
What is the latest. Is it still on? I saw something on Club NARP about a golf tournament, but still haven't seen any info on Hotels, final numbers, who from DFW or OKC is going.
Any news???
I need to start making plans.
