914World.com _ 914World Garage _ wheel bearing replacement

Posted by: FB914 Nov 10 2006, 10:32 PM

Hi All,

I've never done this job before and am planning on replacing the front and rear bearings on a stock 74. Does anybody have a link or a document with instructions or any advice on pitfalls to look out for? The Haynes manual has pretty detailed info for the front but nothing for the rear other than a diagram. Thanks in advance for your help

Check out the tech articles on Pelicanparts. There is one on 5-lug rear conversion ... changing the bearing is the same. The trick with the threaded rod works nice.
One piece of advise ... get a big steel hammer to knock the hubs out.

Thanks, the Pelican article is exactly what I was looking for

Because it was such a large PITA for me I put mine back together and had the local shop do it for me. I know, what a sissy. But, I was back up and running by the end of the day.
