for each full revolution of the crank (360 deg), how many power-strokes do you have on a 4-cylinder boxer?
1?
or, to be more precise, how many OPEN intake valves do you have per full revolution of the crank? (ignore overlap, only full open valves).

the four strokes are (officially) Suck - Squeeze - Bang - Blow. in that order.
each cylinder fires every two revolutions of the crankshaft == 1 revolution of the camshaft.
so you get half as many of each stroke in a crankshaft rev as there are cylinders. (4 cyl == 2 intake, 2 compression, 2 power, 2 exhaust). you get you cylinders' complement in a complete revolution of the camshaft ( == 2 crank revs).
and since a power stroke 'makes power' over about 120 crankshaft degrees, this is why 6's are so smooth - you have 1 cylinder making power at all times.
