Can I get a consensis from the gang on this please?
crest? unsure.gif no crest

Posted by: Mark Henry Jan 6 2003, 08:05 AM

crest, because I already have one! tongue.gif

Posted by: boxstr Jan 6 2003, 10:24 AM

No crest unless already there.

Posted by: olav Jan 6 2003, 12:21 PM

My car came with a crest on the front and the back.

I would prefer no crests though but I'm leaving everything there unless I get my car repainted then I'll remove the crests and fill in the holes.

OK, here's what I think you should do just leave it OFF. Even if you put it on who will know that it's a Porsche? Just put it on your steering wheel. Then be happy that you didn't drill holes in a perfectly good trunk lid. biggrin.gif

Posted by: krk Jan 7 2003, 07:47 PM

Both of mine have 'em. I'd rather neither did. I love the clean uncluttered
line, particularly on the early years. ymmv.

I put one on mine and I like the Way It looks

Posted by: elwood-914 Jan 7 2003, 11:18 PM

Even though mine has a crest I would rather keep it uncluderd (sp?) Nothin but a door handle. ph34r.gif

Posted by: mr914 Jan 11 2003, 01:17 PM

Crest if already there.

Posted by: seanery Jan 13 2003, 08:18 AM

Neither of mine have them.
I'm thinking about putting a crest sticker on the race car when it's painted.

I haven't made up my mind about the driver.

How do I vote, "I'm not sure?"

Posted by: Hawk Jan 13 2003, 11:39 AM

No crest. Uncluttered. Pristine, virginal? ohmy.gif

Posted by: kdfoust Jan 13 2003, 02:20 PM

Hell, my car doesn't even say P-O-R-S-C-H-E across the engine grill anymore! I say NO to the crest.

Posted by: scottb Jan 13 2003, 02:43 PM

i vote crest. good i like it since mine came with one.

Posted by: Brad Roberts Jan 13 2003, 03:05 PM

I had to think about this awhile.

Here is my take on the subject.

F- Porsche. Why should I let people know its a Porsche when Porsche wont acknowledge it ??

Most people think its a Fiat anyway...ha ha

If it has it.. leave it. If it doesnt.. dont add it.

All it does is make the hood harder to wash.

Posted by: Mueller Jan 13 2003, 03:17 PM

I planned on NOT installing the Crest on my new 911 hood as well as.....I better call Scott before it's too late....

No crest on the 914 either

I vote 'Porsche Crest'. Sure, not original, but it looks sharp and doesn't scream aftermarket...

Posted by: GWN7 Jan 13 2003, 05:29 PM

One car has it, one car dosen't, the third has holes for one. The one at the farm dosen't (rusting peacefully). Can't remember if the 924 has one or not and there is 4" of snow on top of it, so I will find out in about 3 months.

Personally if I find one for cheap I might add it.

I figure that I know what it is and if anyone else is looking at the car can't read the "PORSCHE" letters on the engine lid and figure out what type of car it is from that, there probably to dumb to live. tongue.gif

Posted by: Jeroen Jan 13 2003, 05:43 PM

The 924 had a hood-crest because THAT was a real Porsche wink.gif

Cheers,

Jeroen

Posted by: Gint Jan 13 2003, 08:21 PM

I voted o this last week, but I'll add my .02 today. There are enough Porsche crests on my car already. Wheels, engine grill, 914-6 on the rear panel, crest on the Momo wheel hub. That's plenty.

Jeroen, DIG your new avatar. :loveletter: I would love to have the art for my web page.

Posted by: Curvie Roadlover Jan 13 2003, 08:56 PM

I'd pretty much already decided on no crest, I was just curious about how everyone else felt. My first car didn't have one when I got it but I put one on, then kinda regretted it. However, It was a silver car, and now PP sells a silver hood crest. That would have looked tits on the silver car.

Posted by: TROJANMAN May 19 2005, 12:23 PM

though i'd dig this one up, since we have a few more members now.

Posted by: mattillac May 19 2005, 01:13 PM

no crest. it's not really a porsche anyways wink.gif i vote yes for the big VW that comes on the front of old vanagons.

Personally, I think you REALLY need a huge airbrushed hood mural of a semi-clothed Conan type, proudly dragging his equally semi- clothed conquest by the hair. No question.

Can you get 914 carpets in Shag?

As in "Shall we shag now, or shall we shag later." Austin Powers

I like both, with the crest, because I like the crest and I think it is cool, and without, because that's how it came from the factory and the car doesn't need to shout "HEY I'M A PORSCHE" for me to like it. boldblue.gif

I've always prefered porsches without badging.
I think they speak for themselves.

Posted by: jim912928 May 19 2005, 04:09 PM

I put the silver crest on my arctic silver teener...looks real good! I like showing my porsche heritage on this car. I don't know if it is age or not...but I get no grief from other porsche people here in northern indiana that the 914 isn't a porsche..they all love it. At the first PCA meeting I attended they asked me what I had and growned when I said I had a 914...they all said don't bring it to an autoX...we don't want to get beat! There are about 6 teeners that show up at the autox's here...3 are sixes.

Posted by: jgiroux67 May 19 2005, 04:42 PM

I love the hood crest, but if its at the right level on the hood. Not to high and not too low other wise it looks out of place.

Posted by: Brent May 20 2005, 01:04 AM

Crest, already there, plus balances the Gold letters on the engine lid.

Posted by: redshift May 20 2005, 01:08 AM

Crest. It allows for longer blank stares when they walk by, and say, "Fiat!?"..

"Yes, why... yes it is..."

no crest. keep it clean -- these cars have more character without being labled 'porsche' everywhere.

Posted by: mrobin May 20 2005, 04:04 AM

i'll go along with the people that say...
if it has one keep it....if it doesn't have one on it, don't put one on.
cheers

Posted by: Thomas J Bliznik May 20 2005, 04:44 AM

I vote no crest. The factory didn't put one on, so leave it off.

Story to relate too.
Would you put perfume on a pig?? It's still a pig!!

Tom
BTW Curvie,
Hope to see you Sunday at the Ypsi. VW meet.

Posted by: 914gem May 20 2005, 05:14 AM

a small vw crest would look great on a V8 car

Posted by: smooth_eddy May 20 2005, 09:00 AM

I do not have a hood crest. Although I do like them, I won't put one on my car. Why drill a perfectly good hood?

Posted by: ! May 20 2005, 09:05 AM

HAH...I broke the tie....no crest.

Posted by: tat2dphreak May 20 2005, 09:06 AM

TY TYVM biggrin.gif

Posted by: MW 914 May 20 2005, 09:13 AM

Mine already had one so I left it on. However, I'm pretty indifferent on it. I wouldn't put in extra time or money to remove one OR add one. They just really don't do much for the car either way.

I used to have the letters on the engine cover but I left them off after I repainted. I like it better without them. I also removed the negative stripe. There's my .02.

Posted by: kwales May 20 2005, 09:35 AM

I'd like a crest on mine...

But I'd have to remove the big chrome stallion mounted there.

That would unbalance the "look" with the two flanking little chrome horses pulling little chrome sulkies and the bank of 9 tuned airhorns running across the hood behind the sulkies.

of course there's only 10% of the people registered on this site have voted... it's like a real election smile.gif

Posted by: oilhammer May 20 2005, 11:10 AM

smile.gif Mine has one but if it didn't, I wouldn't install one. If someone says its a VW... well the DNA don't lie. I actually like the VW/Porsche emblems for the rear... Of course, I wonder if six owners would feel the same.

What ratio of six owners voted, "have badge"?

914's rock...

Posted by: Dr. Roger May 20 2005, 12:19 PM

I like both.
If the DNA don't lie.... then ideally i'd like to make a "PORSCHE/VETTE" emblems for the trunks. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Joseph Mills May 20 2005, 01:17 PM

Mine came with a crest on the front hood. However, it will be removed when I eventually repaint the car.

In the meantime, I added the badge seen below on the rear bumper for proper balance.

Originally I had a smaller badge, but the car pushed badly. Installing the larger badge really balanced the car's handling. For high speed track days, I adjust the badge to it's stiffest setting.

VERY neutral in high speed turns now...

Mine had oe when I bought it. I took it off as it was kinda beat up. I don't know that I will put it back on or not. I was actually thinking of putting a VW emblem there instead, and the "vw-porsche" badge on the rear.

Next to a brozed naked lady with wings (not the ebay parts lady tho), the porsche crest makes a fine hood ornament.

No crest on the hood. If the shape of the car isn't enough to tell you what it is, then its identity should be on a "need to know" basis. biggrin.gif

I'm remembering 20+ years ago when Cadillac and other GM Divisions were having a very serious identity crisis. I once counted 14 Cadillac emblems, crests and wreaths on wheels/hubcaps, taillights, hoods, trunks, grilles, mirrors, roof pillars, etc. Talk about your insecurity laugh.gif

We don't need no stinkin' emblems thumb3d.gif

Posted by: Tobra Apr 20 2006, 01:26 PM

ooo, 88-88, a tie. I have a stick on Karmann badge left over from the bug, thought about sticking that one on the back, or on the passenger fender like a Karmann Ghia, just to throw people off. I say no holes in the hood if they are not already there, decal would be okay I guess.
