914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Front Trunk Latch Cable Broke...

Posted by: jim_hoyland Feb 19 2007, 04:27 PM

Cable isn't working; I know there is a hole behind the latch; what does it take to open the latch from the outside? What tools do I want to use? It's a '75 with original rubber bumpers.

Thanks, jim

pop off the front bumper, turn the wheel to the left, take the right 2 bolts off (have a buddy helps hold the bumper), turn the wheel to the right, take the left 2 bolts off.. AND.. take the bumper off..

then, I completely forgot : ) lol

the mechanism is in the middle of the hood (duh) and I believe there is an access hole to get a screwdriver in and pry a lever..

Good luck

Andrew

It's actually easier than the steel bumpers.

There are only 2 bolts that you have to remove.

Look under the bumper for 2 3/4 inch holes just inboard of the fog lights. I can't remember what size they are (I'm thinking 19mm), but just remove them and the bumper will slide out of the shocks after you peel the rubber covers off of the retainers at both ends and the top. Be careful that you don't break the fog light wiring.
