Hey guys, I need 2 rear cores and 2 front cores to rebuild for my 914.
Since the 914 is my daily driver, I need cores to rebuild so I dont have to do all four brakes in one night.
Any help would be appreciated....
What year fronts do you need?
I have a 74, but i believe the range that I could use is 73-76?
bought my new fronts from AutoZone for $33 each. Turned out to be real ATE brakes.

You may not feel comfortable with autozone, but if they are real ATE calipers, and you are rebuilding them anyway, it's not a bad deal. They are already cleaned up and look new.
intresting, I'll do that.
What abotu the rear brakes?
no rears available.
I would send those to Shea...he does a nice job.
Rich
Or you could buy a rebuild kit and learn some new curse words
There is a guy locally that has about five 914 parts cars PM me and Ill give you his phone number
Eric,
Quite?
The fronts will be A-OK, the rears i'll defnately need help on.
If I could afford to get the brakes built by a pro and then have them plated in deliciousness, then I would definately do that.
Advance Auto parts has the rears available http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=5003&ptset=A&searchfor=Caliper
Britt,
What's your address...? What year are the cores you'll be sending back?
I can PM you my address, the rears are from a 74.
OK, it's on. Britt and I hashed it out backstage. Now all we need are contestants. Sign up. I'm going to do fronts and rears. How long will it take, start to finish?
Is it actual build time or do we include the Nooner?
4 hrs 22 min 32 sec (without the Nooner)
4 hrs 22 min 42 sec (with the Nooner)
Let me get out my calculator before I reply...
fronts are cake... call it 30 minutes each for a pro like you.
rears... call it an hour and a quarter each.
2 x 30 min = 60 min
2 x 75 min = 150 min.
210 minutes....
I would say 1hr for all four 15 mins each.
Took me 6 hours to do two rears...they were F'd though.
They work
You should come over some time you can check out the 914/6 I just picked up
If you are doing the whole set of 4.
4x General clean-up.
4x Split calipers
8x Remove pistons
8x Polish pistons
8x Hone bores
2x Dis-assemble and clean rear calipers
2x Reassemble rears
8x Install new seals
2x Reassemble fronts
my guess is:

I'm in!! I can always use $17,000 Dinar!
I have faith here and will wildly say......02:49:19 +/- 00:00:01
Is the time used for applying bandaids and wiping up blood not coumted or does that stay in?

Clayton

3:09:14
I'll say 2hours 22minutes and 22seconds.
4:20!
I expect Eric would be very thorough (and thouroghly Gumbied).
The subjects have been chosen.
Behind door #1 we have a pair of late model 914-4 ATE dual 43mm piston front calipers. Slightly used but still have fresh fluid in them so I'm hoping that popping out the pistons will be a breeze.
Behind door #2 we have a pair of late model 914-4 ATE dual 33mm piston rear calipers with the integrated hand brake. They look to be in average shape so again, we're hoping no delays upon disassembly.
Scalpel please nurse... Everything I could think of has been assembled for the party.
Keep adding your times... the contest will be open until Sunday February 25th 8:00 PM EST - 5:00PM PST

Just to add a little spice, I will tell you that they're done.
Come on gang... put some times down there. Is $100.00 worth of "stuff" that you know you need.

1 hour 33 minutes 47 seconds
Late Night
Oooooo the suspense...
drumroll please!
darn I want to change my guess now that you said 'late night'
EDIT: Oops! That was a 'late night' bump... not a 'late night' caliper rebuild! Now I get it. Ok, my bet still stands firm.
4:05
2 hours 17 min and 19sec ...
Less than 6 hours to go...
1hour 33min 34 sec
Ferg
2hrs 9min 14 sec
35:1 odds at $100 smackers...
5 minutes
That's 1 Hour, 17 Minutes, 55 Seconds.
And the winner is:
LvSteveH with 1:14:00
Rusty came in second with 1:10:00 and Ferg was third with 1:33:34.
Thanks all... Britt, you have a PM!
How cool is that.... Thanks Eric! I can't wait, shiny new parts... woo hoo.
You've got $100 in the bank here bud.
Well sure it was that fast if you were gonna half ass them and cheat by having your tools ready to go
No, but I play one at the bar and in the bedroom
Yaay!
Damn, thats fast.
Way to go Eric! Feel free to take your time with mine though...
I would like to publicly thank Eric for the brake calipers he is building for me.
Eric, I sent that PM to you!
Thank you everybody for thier kindness!
They are boxed up in in the back of the car - honest! Just trying to decide who to give the privilege of losing or destroying them - UPS or the Postal Service.
And again, congrats for offering your services to help out a 914'er in need.
USPS Flat Rate Box. $8.10 and reliable. You can insure each box to $500. PM me before you send.
