914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Double DIN gauge holder for VDO gauges...

Posted by: horizontally-opposed Mar 5 2007, 06:13 PM

Can't believe it, but I am thinking about going radio delete, or iPod only.

So I've been cooking on doing a more GT-themed interior and want to use a 911 combo gauge in the dash plus 1-2 VDO gauges in the radio spot as the GTs did.

Can make the boxed look, I suppose, but then I started thinking about these along with the adaptor angle rings from Autometer.

Better ideas?

Thanks!

IMHO, the plastic won't look right on the dash. I happen to have a detailed drawing of the stock radio plate (thanks Pete!) that we could use to create an all steel version. I also have a source for basket weave material for a stock look. wink.gif

We may be able to help each other out here. I am taking my interior back to stock and also adding back in all of the vent/heat equipment. Have a look at the attached picture of my dash - note no radio, vents, and the gauges.

If you are interested, we may be able to swap some parts to achieve our respective goals.

Cheers,
Joel R.

Pete,

Check out this link. One of the club members makes the exact thing you're looking for, as well as other 914 goodies:

Neat... does anyone have a pic of one installed?

Mark,

T'was already thinking about covering the plate in basketweave, but still wondering about how to handle the angles gauges. Saw one picture of a factory GT where Porsche (?) glued thin bits of basket weave around the angle setup, but it looked cheesy. Best looking setup was the carpeted "box" angle deal, but I am not going to carpet my dash...

Joel: Thanks for the offer, but I am keeping all my old stuff with the exception of the (modern) radio. I am sure, however, that someone around here would trade up for your dash setup in a heartbeat.

All this said, I wish that VDO angled plastic DIN holder was still available...

yo pete!

eric did a neat little right up on this.

you take a 2" diameter muffler pipe, weld it at an angle onto the plate, cover it in basketweave and you are done!
