914World.com _ 914World Garage _ oil pressure light

Posted by: jimkelly Mar 11 2007, 07:42 AM

i noticed that a wire going to the coil sends a signal to the light - is this correct or could this be my problem causing the flickering?? if i disconnect this wire the light goes out. jim

If you are seeing that, then you need to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the car and check the pressure with it. If the readings are OK, then replace the sender. Otherwise you may need some engine work.

Oil pressure light does not attach to the coil. It goes to a wire that will come out of the harness near the center of the case on the passenger side

i do not have my haynes with me and still have lots to learn - but my engine is a GA001xxx and off the harness that goes near the coil have a black wire that goes to the coil and a green/brown wire that (when plugged onto my coil) makes me oil pressure dash light blink wildly. if not to coil - where does this connect to. note: my car is a 1975 wiht a 1973/74 engine. thanks !!!

It should be a green and red, I think, wire (old wire= red may look brown) it

should connect to the oil preasure switch. You will find it behind the dizzy (torwards

rear of car) thru a hole in the sheet metal, only a few inches from your dizzy

IIRC.

ok - got it -- but -- sensor must have been previously sheared off - no top ha is there any other place on engine to get pre4ssure from ??

Replace sensor with a new one, simplist fix for you.

Posted by: So.Cal.914 Mar 11 2007, 04:15 PM

About 10,000 volts PSI.

guess i am the first with an oil cooled coil : )

Posted by: Aaron Cox Mar 11 2007, 04:24 PM

(actually, most coils do have oil in them .... shake one if you have one out.... unless it is epoxy filled for high vibration applications)

lol2.gif The higher your RPMs the more it would flicker eh?

Just after the light turned solid the engine threw a rod!
