914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Porsche 114

Posted by: cooltimes Mar 19 2007, 11:34 AM

I was surfing and ran across this link.

http://encycl.opentopia.com/term/Porsche_114

Reading, I am thinking is this the 1st ever Porsche car built personally by Porsche.
Get this. Mid engine but water cooled. Wonder where the working drawings or prints are.

I may be mistaken, but I think that one of the early 356 type cars, at least the prototype, was mid engined VW type plant.

I think there was one made.

I emphasize because of the number 114 used (14). Made me notice.
Ugly car now but then may have been a cool design. Probably worth more than a few marks.

Read more carefully. The 114 was never built. Just a concept and drawings. But as Rich said, the first 356 (known as No. 1) was mid-engined. But changed to rear engine for production.

356 #1 is a mid engine & what has been said here about her is 100% accurate. To difficult/expensive to produce as a middie so they flipped it around. Type 114 was never built & as far as I know Porsche has never built a v10 until the CGT. Mind you now that they have a V10 what's to stop someone from actually building a 114? idea.gif sawzall-smiley.gif idea.gif welder.gif idea.gif

Sorry to point out to anyone but what I typed, was in fact a question. Typed earlier by me.

"Reading, I am thinking, is this the 1st ever Porsche car built personally by Porsche"?

Maybe I should have said the 1st to be DESIGNED to be a Porsche.

Some of you guys sure are getting to be a bunch of nit pickers. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Not that I don't blame anyone. Old guy just playing with his computer.

What would be the bore and stroke on a 1.5L V10?

actually, the first real midengine car porsche ever build was the "P-Wagen" (stands for Porsche Wagen).

in the early 30s, he started a company called "Hochleistungs-Fahrzeugbau GmbH" and started working on racecars.
he then partnered up with "Auto Union" to build the "P-Wagen".

the car featured a V16 with 4.36 Liter displacement and a roots compressor bringing the HP output to 295HP @ 4500 rpm ...

and here it is, raced by "Ernst von Delius" in 1936:

and here's the Typ1, the first of project "356", which didn't start until after ferry was released from prison in 1947 ...

build in 1947, mid-engine, 35 HP:

I didn't see it with a quick google search, but didn't a type-c just go up for auction or for sale recently and they thought it would be the most expensive car exchange to date? I don't think I ever heard what happened with that, but I swear it was either an AU type-c or type-d designed by Porsche.

the 1.5L mentioned above was actually build, but as a 12 Cylinder Boxer motor that was used in a 1949 race-car build by Porsche for the italian Piero Dusio.
the car was called "Cisitalia", after Dusio's company.

1.5L, 12 Cylinder boxer, watercooled. 450 HP @ 10,500 rpm

Actually I don't see how the 114 could be a mid engine, much less a mid engine V10. Something does not seem right in looking up the descriptions. "An upgrade from VW's 1.0 to a 1.5" is what is stated. That leads me to believe it's actually a 4cyl ass dragger. Besides, look at it... how could the engine be in the middle? If I'm wrong someone please correct me.
The 360 Cistalia was the car Ferry built to gain some cash & help the design firm. I'm not sure but I think they delivered it just after the old man got out of jail. Obviously by Andys' pics you can tell she was a bad ass car way ahead of her time. Here's another shot of the 360.

The 1939 Auto Union Typ D V12 was determined to not be the French GP winner, rather a runner-up in that race. After the correct provenance was established, Christie's accepted sealed bids for it but apparently the minimum bid was not reached so the AU was not sold. It's sure to appear at a later date.

I guess my $51,000. bid was not enough to secure it. sad.gif . I mean, who's gonna work on it and it's not like you can find parts on eBay for it. rolleyes.gif

Funny how that prototype 356 looks a lot like the model of the 114.

I took these pics at the AutoStadt in Wolfsburg last year...similiar to the one above. The wheels on this little thing were huge. I couldn't imagine driving something like it...

Guys.... Porsche's first car was electric with 4 in-wheel motors.

The first car he "designed." It was built under a design firm that he was working for in his youth. Down the street from where Hitler was failing out of "greeting card university" or some such.

My, how we've come full circle. The future is once again, electric, in-wheel motors.

Dude, was that "1.5L 12cyl" a typo? 125cc/cyl. Like 12 angry dirtbikes. Very impressive at 450hp aqnd 10,5K RPM.

Thanks fort the historical info. aktion035.gif

Don't forget that one of Porsche's earliest designs was for Mercedes.

QUOTE
The ultimate Porsche-designed Mercedes-Benz, the ā€™Sā€™ or ā€™W-06ā€™ class cars were powered by a supercharged, in-line six cylinder engine with overhead camshaft, two updraft carburetors, and dual ignition. Approximately 372 of these Sport models were produced between 1927 and 1934. Forty-two of them were SSKs (for Super Sport Kurz or Short), short chassis two-seaters which could reach 115 MPH with the Sindelfingen factory body. The first vehicle specifically created to be driven on the road and on the racetrack, it proved to be remarkably successful at such venues as LeMans, Monaco, and the Mille Miglia.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, however I finally finished reading the article in 000 about the Type 64, great article and now I want to know more about the Type 114 that never happened.

Questions:

Anymore pictures or drawings for this motor?

If not, what manufactured motor at the time would be closest to it since it mentioned plenty of 5 cylinder motors having been built and used, my understanding was that it to be based on something already made?

Pic found on pintrest and same pic in 000
