ok, so I started to pull apart the motor to replace the base shims..
where is all this oil coming from?
my head nuts were loose, I think the oil was coming from the head stud to the case?
anyone else run across this?
it looks like my cylinder was leaking also...
ARP studs,
finger tight in case, I think I forgot to use sealant on them..
cylinder base shim looks good, no leaks,
oil pump looks good, no leaks,
galley plugs look good, no leaks..
I am running a little rich though...
head shot...

Did you torque the heads in the proper sequence?
I didn't & have cylinder head oil leak after 20 years ( minor, but major on a CW car). Took a shortcut - got burned.
It DOES leak. It DOES make a mess. I AM stupid. I WILL fix it this spring.
DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. Got expert advice. Didn't listen. Paying for it now.
Anyone know if you can change this seal/gasket without removing the motor?
Apologize for hijacking this thread.
Pat
bump....
Herb, It can also be a leak somewhere about and just leave the trail there due the movement on of the air. Found my oil leak last year - the top of a valve cover! Make sure your's are flat.
Matt, mine are flat, I also welded in a support to the gasket on the inside...remember my trail at NHIS??
I for sure had a cylinder to head leak, I am thinking that due to this I might also have been leaking out of the head stud to case area.
It might be hard to see in the pictures..thanks,
Welding can cause warping in the valve covers.
Pat: Save the headache and remove the motor. You have to pull all the injection/tin off, not to mention that I doubt you could remove a head with the engine in the car. Don't solve a shortcut with a shortcut.
mark, motor is already out....
I did talk to Charles about the torque...
he did mention doing a re-torque. I guess I never did that...
I also cc'd the heads...does 80cc seem right???
look in the picture above..pretty deep cuts and port work...very large valves...
80cc per chamber doesn't sound right. Sure it's not 40 and 40?
Check your rings. I've taken apart a few engines (not alot, i'm still a noob) that showed leaks similar to yours that had broken rings.
you cc'd to the bottom of the head?
you only measure to the lip where the cyl sits
cylinders are coming off to replace base shims...
cc yes to the bottom of the relief...80cc's I need to verify,
this is a 103 motor, but this drops my CR to around 7 or 7.5....no good...
I don't know if I'm comparing apples to oranges here, but my /6 leaked from between the cylinder and case when the head was loose.
