I've noticed my bursch seems to have gotten quieter over the past three years, is that from soot building up in it ?

When I still had the catylitic converter installed, it would clog up in 2-3 years and have to be replaced.

Any first hand experiences will be appreciated

WHAT?????? I've never seen that. If you're sooting up a muffler bad enough to plug it, you've got MAJOR engine problems. Busted cats can do that, but that's chunks, not soot. The Cap'n

My tangerine has changed tune a bit in the last 2 years. sort of mellowed a bit.

So the change in tone/sound is probably due to the metal itself...OK

Actually Jim, if anything happens to mufflers they rot away inside, or become plugged if/when your catalytice converter's filament turns to fragments. Change in tone? Maybe. More restrictive? Doubtful without a cat.

Years ago when I was in the muffler business I remember it was quite common for mufflers to loose their new sharp loud sound as they aged....was nothing more than a carbon build up inside.

Can I clean it out after removing the muffler ?
