Here it is... Not bad for a car that will be purposely beaten to the point of destruction! Watch it on SPEED in June!
I can't disclose info on the engine as our opposition is watching!
Here are a few more..
Can't wait!
My old car was nothing!!!!
That cage is being built so beefy for a good reason!
Thats a 100 shot of Nitrous!
Looks awesome jake! Make sure to post when the show is going to be on T.V. I can't wait to watch it.
What kind of racing? Drag? Drift? Road course?
Drag....
Pass after pass until one of the two cars experiences a catastrophic failure that takes it out of the competition...
Listen to this MP3 for more info
http://www.launchhour.tv/blowItUp.html
Oh great... The Vin Diesel wanna-be....Should be fun though. It's a Raby. It should be good to go!
Unfortunately it's all about luck in this one...
There are several unknowns that we just won't know till we get to the track, mainly what the opponent has built to counter our attack!
Dang-it Raby, any more of this sexual provocation and I'll have to go after you for sexual harasment!
Hashmalamalrabyshmalamallawary
Hmmm 500hp minimum you say. Should be interesting.
Is the other car going to be aircooled?
An I hope you can eventually remove that NHRA cage...wow...
Rich
Yes.. It's an aircooled Type 1 Drag car...
The cage is forever part of the car, everything is Tig welded in and it's there for good....
The car is a huge factor for the win but the owner MUST be a great hustler so he can get the contender to fall in his trap, just like a pool shark. I hope the car runs like crap, "on purpose", for the first three races, win one of them, and kills the contender for the last two. I hope to see Jake tweek the beast to win on the last two races and mark his territory for us on that show! Maybe next time, we will see a 914 crush the competition.
JPB, This IS NOT PINKS!
This BLOW IT UP!! Listen to that MP3 for details..
It does NOT MATTER who is the fastest, what matters is who breaks first.
I could have a used a 914 for this show, but I chose the car that weighs 1/2 as much :-)
Oooopsy. I stand corrected! Crap I suck with names and show names I guess falls into names in general.
this is X-stry good. Hehehehe
What kinda oil will you use?
What kinda oil will you use?
Sure got alot of AN fittings on your Desk.. ok what type of Oil will it be oH Master
Jake, with the HP range the Speedster will be in are they requiring axle limiting devices? Larry
Forget axle limiters... How about scattershields?
If the motor goes kerpow in dramatic fashion, if I'm sitting 6 inches away from the engine, I think I'd want some form of armor plating between me and the potetnial source of shrapnel.
-Josh2
that is a seriously fugly roll cage....
but everything else looks pretty badass.
Yeah, the cage is really ugly... BUt there is nothing else that's as safe that can be built in the very limited amount of time that we have..
Jake, is there a website for the other guys car? I'd want to know what he is up to.
I know what Oil Jake is using.
Super secret (EEVOO)
Extra Extra Virgin Olive oil
Don't laugh... I have purposely used Panama Jack suntan oil and johnsons baby oil in an engine used for an engine blow contest with GREAT results!
The real oil has been a serious endeavor to test and source and we are currently working out the kinks with the company that makes it to be able to sell it so I have to keep a lid on it for now.
Royal Purple is great oil, but it is not as good as the oil we have found that has a label on it that 95% of car guys have never heard of.
The final portion of oil testing will be to purposely take several oils to 250-300F oil temps in an engine for a couple of hours to see how they do in post analysis. Thats all we have not done at this point.
Some updates to the car! Here is the cage that Blake made her at the shop! GREAT WORK BLAKE!
The last pic is the header that Racer Chris flew down to build in the car! It's amazing!! THANKS CHRIS!
Another simple but time consuming part... I had to fab/ modify this drive for the oil pump!
Damn that is a nice header Strange ports tho?
You should see the rest of it!!!
wait a second... the heads have side exhaust ports like a type 1?
Attached image(s)
Oops. Cat out of bag.
Jake how could you hose up that Spyder body? I would have loved to have the body for my next project. You just flip'in trashed it...
Paul,
we still don't know exactly which way we'll be going with the heads. The engine I am using was a test engine comprised of mostly used prts from 3 different previous test engines. Time didn't allow anything else as we only started this entire build 2.5 weeks ago and we have less than 10 days to finish the entire car and then a drive to Iowa.
I will say that **MY** heads are NOT being used for the build up, we can't trust the only set of prototypes to a situation that might blow them up. The porkies heads are not far enough along to use either, so I had to use what we have available..
The car dictated the necessity for a custom header, not the engine.
Me thinks I know what heads your gunna use.... And if I am right.....them suckers flow some serious air..... Sweet.......
I know you guys can't run a rev limiter. AND the opposing team will have a turn at driving YOUR car.
I think the biggest trick is how to build an engine that can be over revved to death by the OTHER team and still not blow up..... Forcing the driver to shift cause there is no more power....
Kinda like building a torque monster from hell that can still rev to the stratosphere and survive.... I have been thinking about that long and hard. How many ways can I skin that cat...?????
Can't wait till ya tell us how ya did it......
This is gunna be great for all of us to see.
I wonder what your opponents will have????????
Twystd1
What is the prize if you win? Looks like a lot of braggin rights for the money you are spending!
OK--It'll start to handle really bad before it gets to 165 (assumes the tires are not 1955 dimensions)--unless you have a great big wing on it. Might get past 175 if you do. Where's the ride??-Bonneville? So--give us more--a spoiler, wing, or what? And do tell us what track! We're behind you.
Nevermind
Our Type 1 opponent backed out today, less than 3 weeks before the competition- SO now it looks like we'll have race a V8 powered car.
I guess we must have scared him. He has REALLY pissed me off!
[/quote]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUMMER that basturd. I was really looking forward to the T1 va T4 war.
The billet heads I worked with for 3 years have never been pictured, only 4 people have ever seen them and they are not being used for this build because they are very expensive prototypes that can't be sacrificed- plus they are not proven on anythging more that a 14K mile 235HP street engine.
I have tabled these heads at the current state of development to team up with Charles at LN to finish the "porkies" head project that Shad Laws started prior to his separation from the company, leaving Charles with some bad ass plans for an unfinished head.
Honestly our engine is built from 85% used parts, including the cylinders, pistons, rings and heads. The cam and rods are new, the crank has 15K miles on it, but was modified before this challenge to do the job.
The only new parts in this engine are the cam, lifters and rods... All the other components are used an well understood. We know there is a very good chance we can break and go home the loser and thats OK because it's part of life, I just can't waste prototype parts.
we all know that the winner of this event will be the aircooled engine, thats because it will give our indutry another shot in the arm and let other enthusiasts from other walks of life see what we are doing and they might just end up with a vintage VW or Aircooled Porsche and thats what it takes to keep things going for me to be able to do this for another 30 years+ as well as other people in the same boat.
Yes, thiat is worth a few thousand dollars and shutting the shop down for 3 weeks. I'll trade 3 weeks for 30 years any day and I love to push things to the max. When it boils down to it basically the winner is the luckiest guy at the track, he doesn't own the best car or engine, he is just lucky.
Well then the best of Luck to you, wup some V8 ass.
Looks like a Type 1 Might be back in.... I hope so!!
Yes, lets hope so. Air vs water does not have quite the advertising value I'd think.
Art from Aircooled engineering stepped up!
yes, air Vs water is a good thing. I hate radiators and I'd like nothing more than to annihilate some radiator laden piece of iron.
Oh no! And here I am putting radiators into everything I own.
Art's a good guy, I like that matchup.
When you can say more about what those headers bolt onto don't forget to let us know. I like cool stuff, even if it's aircooled...
I saw a ghost today, Jake. Sometimes I ship UPS stuff from the local Office Depot, and when I called up my account there was Joe Locicero's name and address. Spooky.
Not only is the header custom built for that car, its a bigger size than my current largest production system.
Here's a pic of the "muffler" on the car right before I removed it for cleaning at 1:30am Tuesday.
Wow, that does look really nice
I can't wait to hear/see it running.
Ok ok ... back to the oil ... I bet its D-A extra treated ? right ? Or maybe its Harley oil ... works really well at high oil temps ... just dont add slick 50 to your harley, the roller bearings tend to "skate" ... cant tell you how I know but ply me with enough "truth serum" and I might talk !
On the oil.... We'll talk about it later, when the time is right and we'll have the refiners of the oil on the 4th Dimension Radio show when it's released for sale, probably in July as it stands now.
Where's a posting of the "rules of engagement"? The whole story?
Listen the the MP3 here
www.launchour.tv
Click on "Blow it up!"
Or listen to this weeks 4th dimension Radio broadcast..
there are not many rules. Be fast, don't scatter first.
Jake,
Just for shits and grins..... What was Chico's excuse for not running up against you?
It's gotta be an interesting story.
NEXT:
Are you gunna use Art's carbs on your car???
I was just thinking of the beautiful irony of that possibility.
Beat the guy that built your carbs kinda thing.......
NEXT:
Do you need a chute for that car to run at the proposed track?
NEXT:
Can you get somebody to video log the thrashing at your shop for posterity?
That would be a bitchin show in itself. Like an hour long show on the speed channel or the history channel. PLEASE get as much video as possible of what you guys are doing.
Regards and the best of vibes possible to you and the crew. Cause you don't need good luck... You have that already..... In SPADES...!!!!
Clayton
What carbs?
:-)
owned
Art prepped the 52's for me last year... But I won't be using them against him, we need more control of the engine...
I needed a tad more air flow, those venturis get in the way of things :-)
Yeah, we know what keeps an engine alive.
I wish you could see the smile on my face....
PRICELESS....
Clayton
Aint she sweet.
Here is the early conceptual design for the T shirts... This is just one side of the shirt, the front is even better but is still being worked out!
The car will be finished by weeks end.. Engine will be off the dyno tomorrow afternoon as long as nothing scatters!
nevermind
Yeah.. The big rig is certainly gonna be a handful to drive, but at the track all the conveniences of the shop/tools and etc will be nice! The only bad part is that it's watercooled!
"Mr. Nevermind" is probably one of those guys that wonders why anyone would spend thousands of hours of labor and multi- thousands of dollars to build a car to purposely go blow up.... We don't think alike.
I would like to say the Shirts look BITCHIN if thats still a word
Yeah, the designer is an out of control individual that I have known for a number of years... :-)
When I decided to blow the car up EVEN IF WE WIN the competition, Rich Christensen was totally blown away. :-)
Just imagine if it takes us twice as long to scatter as the TI.....
What if it takes a 200 shot of NOS to even hurt the engine...
But we might die on the first pass, who knows- it's ALL luck!
Did I miss something? I didn't see a pic of a hauler on here.
Jake, Are you off your medication again? Holy C#$^!
Well. Actually, I'm one of those guys who decided to take a second thought about what he was going to ask and whether or not he actually cares. And I can't figure out how to delete my frigging posts.
I *was* going to ask about whether or not you plan on running a toneau cover on the car.
And the *Other* nevermind was about *ado. And I likewise thought twice about possibly giving away a secret if it had to do with anything.
I'm afraid that we may think more similarly than you want to believe. I've been working on a project for the last year called "Engine Number Nine."
A lot of expiremental tech packed into a 3.2l 6, as a back up engine in case we're already going to lose a long race. It'll almost surely blow up, and we take home a loss+ a lot more data from it.
Instead of stealth mode, why don't you roll in decoy mode? You could letter the trailer with false livery to throw the spies off track. Maybe red & yellow, so it's really obvious, like Der Winerschnitzel logos or something.
Ummm Jake doesn't that motor home have a.....uuuhhhhh.....uuummmmm
WATER cooled engine in it?
Is this show going to advance the winners in to a second, third, fourth, round against other winners or is it a one time showing? BTW AWESOME shirt
No stages... It's just two cars, when one dies the other wins....
Yeah, I HATE the fact that I had to buy something with a Radiator, it's the second watercooled vehicle I have ever owned.
BUT I don't have the time to build an aircooled engine that will pull all that weight and size- we have SCCA events to win!
The MOG would be a helluva tow rig Imagine the crrowds response when you pull up in the Unimog with the speedster hanging out of the bed
...it's olive oil!
I like the spider for the spyder pic
The shirts looks like it will cause skin burns! How do I get one?
And hey its a motorHOME. Houses can have water.
Jake,
Why the hate towards anything watercooled? Maybe I missed your reasoning. Is it due to better performance and longer life?.
PS I visited your shop and was very impressed so please dont yell at me.
David
Looks like this. Wish I could justify owning one to the wife.
Attached image(s)
Oooooo, I want one.
Yep, Steyr Daimler Puch...
I love mine! I drive it atleast twice a week, sometimes everyday..
My wife love s them things and she has a Jeep Wrangler and an H3
What? No gun?
Guns???
Yeah, got plenty of them :-)
But not enough!
Any info available on the shift linkage setup? I tried their website but recieved no response. Larry
Do a search for "AJ Speedshift"....
The engine is now off the dyno, it passed the tests and made the power we were looking for in only two dyno runs!
You'll never believe the power numbers from an 8.6:1 CR engine!
I have video!
I only saw a head temp over 300F ONCE, this baby runs way cooler than stock!!
Hope some day I'll own a couple of them shirts And you better kick some type 3 ASS

A man can never have too many guns, knives or cars.... Cars are my life, guns are my hobby!
on a different note:
Today we completed the engine and the dyno work.. Tomorrow the engine, gearbox and SDS will be installed, hope to be driving by Sunday as we have an alignment scheduled Tuesday and a chassis dyno session on Wednesday!
Not bad for an engine built with most all used parts, except cam, lifters rods and bearings! The cylinders, pistons and rings are well used and i didn't even replace the rings as the gaps were perfect for Nitrous.
Nickies are an amazing thing :-)
Not bad for an 8.65:1 engine running on pump gas- THIS IS ALL MOTOR!! The 100 shot will be dumped on top of this!!!!
I have dyno video and pics but we do not have permission to post them, plus Art still has time to counter us with his set up.... You can hear the engine on the dyno on this Friday's 4th Dimension Radio program, it will be all about the "Blow it up!" project...
Yet again, 8.65:1- it's at 200HP by 5K RPM and makes power to 7,000 RPM. It should hold 8.5K revs with the spring package Len set us up with..
BTW- it made this power pulling the cooling fan belt driven oil pump making over 100 PSI oil pressure! This engine has 20+ more ponies in it, we don't need more for the competition and didn't want to wear it out on the dyno!
Damn Jake, and the bottle on top of that? EVIL, WICKED, MEAN & NASTY.
Hi Jake,
You are aware that it's pretty easy to fill in the missing numbers on the dyno chart based on the 50hp spacing of the lines? Just wanted to make sure you knew.
Very impressive numbers by the way!!
I can't wait to see the show, very cool project.
Yeah, it's always easy to fill in blanks- I just can't post actual numbers...
But if you just do the math based on the increments your projection will not be totally correct :-)
I was doing some calcs with one of my 1/4 mile sim programs.
Lets see....
Bout 1400 LBs. (wild guess)
1/4 mile gears.
Bout 250 HP NA. And bout 200 TQ MAX NA
Add 100 shot of HP and 90lbs of TQ in third gear. Maybe second.
Now make some shit up about another 37 parameters....
Try to guess right or close on everything from Front end Coefficient of drag to tire size, gear ratios, clutch and tire slip and on and on.....
(just guessing folks)
Me thinks we need a betting pool on ETs and Trap speed. All Bucks to a non profit of our choice. And buy Jakes gas for the trip.....
Clayton
So when do we get to see the heads?
I'm just waiting on permission from the production company and Rich.....
Probably not until after the show recording, more than likely. I will say that these are NOT heads that we have developed, rather some used heads that I picked up several years ago for comparison sakes. They were used, available and worked well so I used them.... Plus I don't care if they end up scattered all over Iowa!
If you really want to figure it out, you can just calculate it using the torque numbers. 244 ponies isn't too shabby...
Yeah... It's not too bad- it's actually exactly what I had calculated through simulation..
The cam only has around .500 lift and the heads continue to flow to .650!
It's built for Nitrous, so "All Motor" we won't make as much as normal... If NOS wasn't mandated we would have had 10.5:1 CR, a totally different cam and a lot of other changes.
Here is the final draft of the T shirt front design, this will be small and arranged on the pocket area of the shirt...
It's bitchin!
Nice!
So is that you with the wrench?
I may have missed something, but is this car for PINKS?
It's a brand new show!!! we'll be on one of the first episodes...
download 4th Dimensio Radio later today for a full 75 minutes opf info on the show, car build and etc, the whole show is about "Blow it up!".
I haven't heard anything new about your work with roller cams, how is that going,
are you useing one in this engine?
No, there is not a roller cam in this engine, only tried and true, flly developed parts with plenty of run time on them....
the entuire engine is used except the cam, lifters, bearings and rods... even the rings are used from a previous test engine!
Roller cam development is ongoing, it will take the rest f this year to get it to an acceptable point for inclusion on a select few engines.
