Ok,

By request.
Lets figure out who is going, what is going on, and MOST importantly, what is George driving???
I bet he rents a ford.
We can place bets on what he rents...or somone local could loan him a car, I am sure if he breaks it, he will be able to fix it...

Please email me with cell phones and email addresses (email is the most important) if you are going.
As the email list grows, MAKE SURE to reply to ALL people on the email list.

We can start a rolling discussion, exchange meeting times, dinner times, cell phones etc..yet not have it posted on a worm searchable forum for the rest of eternity.

Its not perfect, but it will do the job.

So, Start emailing me through here, I will reply, and keep adding people to the list of names till friday when I leave.

Rich

Wow,
Lets try this again.

See if we can work this out so its not a PITA to get a good email dicussion going so everyone can communicate, meet up, whatever...

There are two ways to contact someone on the forum
One is a PM (private message)
The other is to Email them through the board.

EMAIL the message with the info to me, it lands in my email box (the one that is attached to my account here) and ...ready....it comes from your email address.

This way I can easily share this info with everyone that is going to hershey..

So, dont respond to me via a PM here, use the email button instead..

that way this will work.

Emailed.
I'tt be driving up Saturday. I am local to the area, so I will be day tripping. I am looking forward to meeting people, and am hopeful that we can do a dinner or somehting.

If anyone is driving through York PA Friday night (IE, comming up from the south), let me know. I'd be happy to pull out the grill for a little pre Hershey fun.

I'll be there with 914 if no rain. What is the date? If it's in the next 2 weeks, I probably won't have the 914 back on the road. It doesn't have a rear suspension right now, just a big empty space so I can pound on the fenders w/o hitting the suspension. Also changing rear bearings and Eric Shea hubs.

Then again, I could bring the red 71. The longest trip I've made in the 71 is to the NHRA races in Reading PA (50 miles). Hersey is only 70. Hmmmm.

I'll be there with the family hunting for parts biggrin.gif
Won't be driving a Porsche though, just the Passat wagon (family/parts mobile).
Hope to see some 914 people.

MEETING POINT FOR CLUB MEMBERS
My friends and I have purchased 3 spots and will be setting up a banner with the world logo so everyone knows were to meet up. I am hoping we have enough room to set up some chairs, etc. to hang out etc. I am planning on having my 914 Ravenna green next to the booth so stop by and hang out. For those wanting to check the weather http://www.wfmz.com/wx/.

Link for info about the swapmeet http://www.cpa-pca.org/swap/index.html

Shameless plug for our booth- My friends and I recently started a company selling items used in the medical industry that were never available to the public. At the Porsche show we will be selling our workcloth which is an all in one completely impervious to liquid aborbent fabric that can be used as a shop dropcloth, shoprag, car protector, seat cover, temporary car cover, buffing cloth, paint cover etc. etc. etc. The stuff is incredibility tuff when wet or dry and can be cut to size but it will not ripe or tear when wet or dry. Check out our website at http://www.surgicalgrade.com/

Look for our logo to find the booth where we will set up a meeting area for 914 members

Are ya talkin covered or noncovered spots? You should expect and be prepared for the worst since rain has always been a problem as well and cold wet wind at that. Perhaps a raffel would cover some expenses or sumtin?

beer.gifI'd like to be a weather man just to see how many times I could screw up until they repremanded me. OOOH, and they are talking about global warming right? They should call it record setting weather rather than global warming unless they are taking the Y2K approach.

Posted by: wilchek Apr 22 2007, 09:46 AM

we have a 10 x 10 tent with sides. I may be able to get another if it looks like we will have rain. Does anyone have a folding tent that they could bring in case we need an extra one?? We will be up Friday night if anyone wants to get togehter at a local hangout. I think Dr Evil was working on something but he has been busy with school so I am not sure if he had time to set something up. He lives in the Hershey area and knows of some good places to go.

My Wife and I will be coming up Friday night Comfort Inn Harrisburg. Will have a laptop there.

Posted by: Spoke Apr 23 2007, 04:50 AM

Local weather forcast shows some rain on Friday, sun and clouds on Sat and Sun.

Do we have to do anything special to park 914's inside the gates? I recall last year someone was looking for a car count to reserve spaces for Porsche parking.

The green car is not going, still don't have the rear suspension on nor am I finished shaping the rear flares. Also just removed the muffler heat shield since it has rust holes and was in the way of some fender impact damage. Hopefully the red car will be there.

Hey All,
Where we can meet is up int he air. I need to know numbers, predilections, and distance willing to travel. It figures that the weather this weekend was some of the best I have ever experienced her in Hershey rolleyes.gif The weather will likely be nice next weekend, nothing like last year. I sent my info to R Towle and figure he is a good person to herd the cats. I'll be in classes all week so I will not have much time to junt for a place to meet, but if ya'll wanna PM me and let me know what you are thinking, I will do my best to seek out a good spot with plenty of parking.

Posted by: faux916 Apr 23 2007, 08:06 AM

Lets hope the hershey rain curse does not show up. This past weekend was the usually scheduled weekend and it was the nicest weekend in a very long time. They changed the date for a week later to kill the curse!?!? We shall see! I hope not, although I will not be attending anyways but I will be praying for sunshine for you all! Have a fun, but safe weekend. drunk.gif wavey.gif

If anyone has not purchased a spot we may all want together and buy spots together to extend the room and sort of hang out that way.
I have three of my guys coming up in a van with tent and tables and some product. If anyone needs anything we will bring it up for them.
I was thinking about flying in to philly and driving out there, but certainly would not want to show up in a Ford, unless it was a gt 40!

Posted by: r_towle Apr 23 2007, 12:14 PM

good to hear you are making a valid showing...a great way to advertise...Im sure you will have alot of fun.

Look at hertz, I think you may be able to get a hertz mustang at the philly airport...black/gold...

I have a few things to sell and wouldn't mind chipping in for some space. Anyone interested? Or does anyone have any free space for 914 stuff?

Posted by: wilchek Apr 23 2007, 06:28 PM

we have three spots reserved so we should have enought for everyone to hang out. I plan on parking my Ravenna Green 914 in our area so you can't miss the spot. Dr. 914 let me know if you need help or a place to crash. I am dead center between Hershey and Philly and was planning on taking off from work around noon on Friday.

Last year I tried to get 914 club only parking but the organizers never set a space aside as they said they would. I will try and get an area set up when I go Friday night. When you arrive tell them that you are part of the 914 club and look for other 914's. Most of the volunteer don't know what is going on and just point you to the general porsche parking area. I just need a list of 10 porsche cars (914 or not) than plan on showing. So if you plan on driving a porshe PM me your name.

Not a bad idea... although the Hershey swap meet is pretty awesome by Porsche standards, it doesn't take very long to walk through the whole thing (compared to, say, Carlisle).

I don't suppose that the VW and Porsche people could combine their shows into one big German air cooled show, could they? From the perspective of an old American iron dude, they're all the same anyway. wink.gif

Do they assign spaces at hershey or is the space assigned when one shows up on saturday? What I was thinking was that if we all showed up together at 6:30 on saturday morning, we could all get spaces next to each other and really show some presence for the 914. Does anyone know?

The latest on a place to meet is T.J Rockwells in E. Town. Not too far form the action, but far enough to get away from the crowds that will choke the local venues. I am hoping that the huge deck will be open next weekend, I will check. Also, some of the local VW people might come hang out.

Dr. Evil and Richard. We really need to set up an official meeting site and time for friday so we can be assured that we all meet up. Remember I am buying a drink for everyone (or two!) (or three for all irish cathoholics)

Posted by: Dr Evil Apr 25 2007, 07:08 PM

I am still working on a place. I have an exam to study for tomorrow so I wont have time until after class to call and make sure. There are plenty of places, and a contingency should be made because it is likely that many will be packed closer to town. The phone list is the best way next to anouncing here and having people check periodically. Fri is looking like T-storms so the outside places are a bad idea. Sat should be fine. We can try to meet down the street form my house at Dukes (on the 422 in zip 17078). Deacent enough food, ample parking, close to the action and a full bar. Let me know what ya'll think and I will see what I can do.

I drove past Hershey this AM on the way home from burying my mother in law. Weather has just changed from freeking freezing last week to spring on Monday. On Monday the redbuds, tulips and dogwoods started blooming and the trees started to green. The Cherry trees at Ft. Indiantown Gap cemetery were just awesome.

Have a nice trip guys, the weather looks good.

Oh yeah, Cops are realy out in force on the Pennsylvania turnpike. I quit counting at 18 cars. Be careful.

Now if I could just get that flat spot outa my butt after the 9 hour run back to Cinci.

Here is a lonk to the place that I was thinking about on Sat night (Elizabeth town one).
http://www.tjrockwells.com/

Unfortunately the HUGE deck will not be open until May. If we show up in force, they may make an exception. Google the directions and let me know if anyone thinks that htis is too far from the beaten track. There are probably other options, but this is far enough form the festivities to allow room for us. Also, their parking lot is large.

Posted by: Dr Evil Apr 26 2007, 11:07 AM

FYI, I've decided what parts I can use.

If anyone sees a dizzy from a 2.7 911 and some plug wires I am interested. If I can get a good deal on these parts I will get my car running as I wont have to dick with the megajolt in my ever precious free time.

Flat spot? It's more like concave! Mke the trip from Philly to Cincy 4-6 times a year (the mother's live there). As much as I love them...a root canal is starting to sound cozy!

OK - I'm a little (not much) embarassed to admit this. When I lived in Cincinnati, all we did was talk about the "Hershey Meet" - never went.

I've lived outside of Philly for 11 years. Always talked about about the "Hershey Meet" - never went.

Well, this year I'm going. Lots of little things I want. Not selling any parts, but I'll have a trunk full of Factory posters from the 70's & 80's. I want these things GONE - no more room.

So, if you see a guy with a a 24/7 cap on, and want early (REAL) posters - hit on me. Otherwise, I'll bebuying a shitload of little parts (if they're good) and wanting to meet all you 914 wierdos. BTW, my wife (Jan) is a 914 wierdo from way back.

Just look for 2 old farts. Wait a minute, we're all old farts (mostly).

I have a binder of pics and build info, screen shots, etc. Just want to inform the average P-car guy about the alternatives to carbs or factory fuel injection. I have a bunch of stuff to sell as well.

No promises, as I am going to be running around western MD all day friday, and Erin might want some time with me. I'm in for some posters too, look for the t4ed green and white beetle. I'll have an LM-1 up and running/linked to a laptop on the Beetle if anyone is interested, not nearly as cool as a megasquirt (I will be hassling you Yarin bout that) nor nearly as complicated, but still pretty neat.

Chris... by all means stop by and check it out.. i've got an LC-1 setup. biggrin.gif I'd like to check out your LM-1.

I just made reservations for a hotel Fri. night, so I guess I'm officially in. I'm pretty sure I'll be grabbing 2 spots, so anyone is welcome to come and hang out with a bunch of 914-6 parts, and sell a few parts of their own, they're more than welcome. Look for the primer grey 914-6 towards the end swap area.

Hey Mike,

That sounds like a good idea. However, you know what to look for better then I do. I'll keep and eye out, but if you see one that looks promising, call me on my cell and I will meet you where it is and pick it up.

Are the innards for the 911 901s and the 914 901s the same for what I need?

Should I bring the stack and case to my tranny with me and leave it with you as well? At the very least, it will clear some space off my workbench. :-)

I don't know why I plan things cause something always comes up. I will have to bail on coming on Sat to go to Bloomsburg University to look at my daughter's Subaru.

It somehow ran out of coolant and overheated on her way back to school last weekend. Ironically I checked the overflow tank on Sat and it looked filled to the right level. Didn't think about looking in the radiator itself. headbang.gif

I think its been leaking for a while since my daughter complained late in the winter that sometimes she would have interior heat and sometimes not so it must have been running low for a while. This week she put in about 1/2 gallon of coolant to fill the radiator. I just hope there is no permanent damage.

Have one for me. beerchug.gif

Dangit gents, I'm going to have to bail this time. sad.gif My teener is ready to pick up from the body shop with a fresh paint job and I just can't wait until Sunday. I'm hopefully going to pick it up tomorrow, which will blow my plans for coming up to the swap meet. The car was supposed to be done a couple weeks ago, but you know how that goes. I didn't want to pressure the guy so he would take his time and do a good job. So even though I'll not get to meet all of you fine folks this time, there's always next year.

George, can I get a rain check on that beer? beerchug.gif

We will see everyone bright and early tomorrow morning, and then check out the VW show, and maybe stay for dinner with whatever diehards are doing that.

Who would think that very overcast and chilly = sunburned bald head? Ha, oh well, it was worth it. Good meeting new people and running into those I haven't seen in a while. Plus I drove home with less stuff than I started with which is always a plus. Even better is that I finally got oil temps under control in my t4ed Beetle, but thats another thread (30mm oil pumps and/or 20w50 oil = hot engine, stock pump + 5w30 = cool runnin).

Not being much of an eraly riser, I dragged my tail up there around 11:00. I only had a couple of parts on my list... 911 oil filters, steering rack cover pan for the 911 (since I saw how much nicer Babydoll's is than mine) and 2.0 fuel injectors for Babydoll. Funny, everybody who said they had them said that they were at home.

I was wandering around in the cold when I almost ran right into Dr Evil. He was sitting there strumming a guitar. I stopped in and said hi, then wandered off with type47 to continue my quest for the green injectors. (Not that I think Babydoll really needs them, but you can never have too many spares.)

It was a good show. A lot of cars. The only non-914s that I bothered to go look at were the 550 and the beck 904 kit cars (so freak'n cool).

There were a lot of 914s. My favotrite was this one:

IPB Image

I don't know who made it, or who owns it, but my hat is off to you. The sculpted rear flairs look awesom.

IPB Image
This is the green color that I am going to paint my 914. Tonda green, I think. I don't know the paint code, but I bet I can call Aircooledracing and find that out.

I wanted to give a specil thanks to Leo who gave me my first ride in a 914 that was not fred flintstone powered. I have owned one now for 2 years and change, and until yesterday had never been in one when iot was mobile under its own power. Now I really want to get mine done. He was kind enough to offer to cart me around the autoX today as a passinger, but I had to decline, Erin and I have too much garden stuff to do.

Speaking of which, she is giving me the eye now, so its time for me to go and get grubby.

Erin was fridgid as well, but she was afriad that if she sat in the bus to get warm, she'd be asleep in moments. Both of us were running more the resting for the prior two days, and had maybe 6 hours of rest from thrusday night to saturday night. I was glad that Erin drove home after dinner. I slept in the car most of the way home.

The bus, by the way, has a killer sound system. Leo was playing LeMans, witht he doors open. No rattles, hissing, or stupid ricer reverb. The movie drew crowds. Dr. Evil ocationally danced to the soundtrack (but I did not have a camera ready for it).

There were a lot of 914s there, but they were wcattered all over the parking area. Next year, it would be great if we could corral them all together.

Hey Guys!

It was a pleasure meeting so many 914 heads this weekend. Definitely a fun tight knit crowd, a lot of people from the boards stopped by to say hi. I was camped out with Dan next to his gorgeous green 914. Big turnout for the swap meet, I sold a few things, bought a few things (oil cooler adapter with AN lines and fitting $10, voltage reg $10, nuts) sold a few things.

Im usually a picture whore but didn't get a chance to snap a few. Sorry I missed the group shot, I was running around trying to find last minute deals! I got sucked into a rennlist dinner that night at the four points sheraton. Pretty good time.

The autoX Sunday was fun, really different club though. They have to be off the lot by 1pm so it makes it pretty tough. They give 3-4 runs typically. It seems like they just changed management or something, scattered work assignments, slow to run cars, no awards ceremony... oh well.. live and learn. Still had a blast!

Congrats to Leo for taking 1st in D class! I expect to see Ray and his son autocrossing again sometime soon. For some reason my injection was missing in the morning, gotta check that out.

Here some in car footage from the autoX http://stage6.divx.com/user/yarink/video/1208672/4-29-07-Hershey,-PA-AutoX

Overall a pretty damn good weekend.

914 World crew-

It was truly a pleasure meeting all of you over the weekend. Having Danny as a best friend for the last 15+ years, I wasn't at all surprised how cool the 914 crowd he's gotten to know on the BBS turned out to be person. It would have been nice if our booth would have been situated nearer the rest of you guys, but we definitely appreciated Yarin setting up with us. Assuming the WorkCloth business is going strong next year, I'll be up for sponsoring a few extra spots again as a meeting point for the 914 World crew again. Let's coordinate on reservations & carve out a bigger oasis in the Swap Meet.

The warm reception you all extended me & my guys received was deeply appreciated. We're working hard and trying to build a product company for auto enthusiasts by auto enthusiasts. As simple as those WorkCloths may seem at first blush, I've used them for years around my albeit rudimentary garage and completely believe they make any project just a little easier to organize, set-up and clean up. I'd love to hear straight up, honest feedback from those of you that took some WorkCloths home with you. Also remember I've extended free shipping on multipacks ordered fromhttp://www.surgicalgrade.com before 5/12 when you use coupon code CPA PORSCHE at checkout!

Good luck with all your projects and don't hesitate to contact me if there's anyway I might ever be able to lend your community a hand!
- Matt

Don't you love it when you notice the randoms that make it into your photos. Look at this guy charging me like he is going to grab the camera. How did I not notice him when I took the shot?

Or how about this guy adjusting my clutch while my back is turned?

I'm with you on that one Leo...

I took today off from work to study for a final exam. I set my priorities:

1) Hershey
2) Exams
3) Work

If I can make some time I'd like to come down and give you a hand with your new motor. Let me know.

Nice pics Leo! Damn, wish I had my Beetle dialed in better (or my 914 off jackstands) looks like I missed a good time. Next year hopefully.

And yeah, isn't it about time you got that 2073 running (again) and in your car? I wanna drive that beast before I plunk down the cash to stroke my 100mm based engine!

They have a non-Porsche class, all PCA autocross clubs let non-porsches in. They usually limit the number though.

That 2002 was very tight, not pushing a lot of power but driven very well.

This was the first year I ever tried to sell parts at Hershey. It went better than I expected thanks solely to all the attention attracted by Chris'(type11969) very cool type 4 powered Beetle. pray.gif Thanks Chris. I met some nice people, who apparently all need a pair of decent sun visors, but I didn't realize just how much 914 activity there actually was until now. I guess the fact that there was no freezing rain or hurricane force winds was helpful. Good time, hopefully it will be the same next year.

Hey All!

Well, I'm late posting as usual . . . It was a real pleasure meeting all of you at Hershey last weekend. Really a good--and interesting--crowd.

Swap meet was bigger than I expected, managed to spend my "allowance" by noon (set of pedrinis, OEM long lugs, 356 gauges, etc.). Definitely back next year--will try to bring the 914--even if I don't get the starting problem fixed . . . .

Took some pictures of some of the most of the 914s there (and the custom 47 Chev coupe)--will post those later. Sorry I missed the group photos, but at least the good Dr and others took a few and posted them here.

Was interested to see the pics of the 2002 in the A-X . . . wonder if they would have allowed an old Volvo wagon blink.gif

Really a great weekend--THANKS!

Steve A-

Thanks for splitting that spot with me Jerry, it was a good time hanging with you and your "crew"! And while my Beetle may have brought some onlookers, I think it was your visors that brought in the buyers. Too bad none of them were interested in a greasy t4 case.

-Chris

The Spyder and the 904 stole the show for me. I know they are both kit cars, and not really Porsche, but they are just so damn sexy.

After I make my first million (working in Higher Ed - yeah right) I'm going to build a 904. I think its just one of the prettiest cars ever.

Can't believe that low mileage 914 went for $19.5k. That's just absurb. On the flip side I did buy my car at the Hershey Swap meet in 2005. Apparantly the previous owner was around but avoided me. Lucky he did, I would have had a few choice words for him...

biggrin.gif this is the 88 911 i got the SWEET DEAL on... short story.. before this was unloaded the whole front end complete with 5 lug; aluminium cross member...everything was sold for $200.00.... i hooked up with the evil one and told him that i wanted to upgrade to 5 lug... we walked around and picked up rear drilled out hubs for 120.00 then he said YOU should have seen the 200.00 front end that i missed... we get back to the van and i ask the how much for the 911 front assy??? he said 400.00 that it was already sold earlier 4 hours to be specific.. so if i wanted it i had to move it...look i'm only the buyer NOT the seller...ok so we move it to the other side of the van and i have my first experience with " tough cloth" i bought the largest size to cover MY new 911 front assy...oops how am i going to get it home???? oh dr. can i leave it at your house till i can come down with my pick up??? of course he can't say "NO" to a fellow teener...ok porblem solved!!! then i got to thinkin' i will take the whole thing apart and i did...it all fit in my front 914 trunk!!! sure looked good... too bad i could not use the rear suspension....

Man I had my eyes closed in every picture. I looked like Forest Frikin' Gump!!!

Well I got the bug again. Time to step into the modified class. A few more days and the engine should be done. I'm giving myself 2 weeks.

Doc - why were you sitting next to me in the middle of the night with a jar of Peanut Butter? You had a strange look in your eyes.

Racer Chris - I would be happy to extend the area next year and demo you header system biggrin.gif :shamelessplugfordicountsmilie: Also, thanks for the -2 deg in the rear and -1.5 up front. I adjusted the front bar to full stiff and the car felt great.

Ray - You gotta find a way to get me those videos and BTW great job in your first AX.

Zach - How was the swap like meeting reenactors at a fort in the woods? I got confused.

Scott - you were missed.

Pete - Always a blast. Glad you made it.

Noel - So sweet. Thanks for you hospitality.

911 guys - You drove from where? and why are you trying to sell posters of a corvette at a porsche event? and sorry for laughing when you told me you had sold the front end for $200. Looks like we worked on you long enough that it found it's way to a more deserving owner.
