914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 4 Lug Offset

Posted by: type11969 May 15 2007, 10:23 AM

Anyone know the offset of the stock 5.5" steel wheels that came with hubcaps? I'd like to run them on my Beetle (fender rubbing issue with empi's and a lowered stance) but I'm not sure they will work. Like to take some measurements before I try to buy some.

Thanks,

Chris

beetle wheels have a bigger offset iirc, which makes them stick outward too far on a 914.....

so a 914 wheel on a beetle would sit farther inboard smile.gif

Yeah, thats what I am counting on, but I want to know by how much!

Anyone got a set they want to measure for me (then maybe sell to me)?

An earlier post on this site said, VW wheels were ET=26mm, and (all?) 914 wheels were ET=41mm. Measurements I made last weekend were pretty close:

914 Pedrini offset ~ 42mm

Am-Racing LeMans (VW) offset ~ 27mm

the difference is ~ 15mm, so the change would buy you almost 5/8" additional clearance assuming same size tires . . . .

I've heard that all of the different 914 5.5" rims (Fuchs, Pedrini, Mahle, "steelies") are the same offset . . .

Hope this helps.

That is a big help, thanks! I'll check to see against the later, non hubcap steel wheels that I have along with the 8 spokes.
