914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Do vin #'s tell what accessories came with 914?

Posted by: 1975red914 May 18 2007, 12:46 PM

Do vin #'s tell what was delivered from the factory to the dealer to the customer? Is there any way to tell if the car had velour seats over plaid? In particular looking at 1975. Velour width in material? unsure.gif

Door post with vin # and date of manufacture. Is anyone punching holes on a reproduced sticker with vin # verification? unsure.gif

Does vin # or chassis # along with tag on drivers door post tell what color car was originally. If new tag was purchased and stamped with color choice is there any other sources which would tell otherwise? Assuming car was entirely stripped to bare metal. recorded history, documents. unsure.gif

Appreciate any accurate input out there. Is this the proper place to ask such ridiculous questions? unsure.gif

Hi! Very good questions... You are in the classified section though. You will get more answers in the Garage section

Soon an Admin will move this to the Garage for you and you will find it there instead of here...

No, the VIN is only a sequence number.
The decal can only be legally supplied by Porsche, and it looks nothing like the original.
The Karmann badge has the paint code, and yes, I can tell if you have changed it.

The only way to decode what you car came with originally is contacting Porsche for a "certificate of authenticity" they will provide you with a cert with options on your car (unless dealer added options, there would be no record of that)

but wouldnt the original dealer (if still in existence) have a record of the car??? --JON

I dunno they probably purge their records every 5-10 years.

TRAVIS HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT DOING THIS?
How much does porsche charge to get a "certificate of authenticity"?
What do they send you?
Thanks
Seth
